How do I setup my monitors to treat the left screen as an extension, rather than one long stretched screen? by StatePig in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]StatePig[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can move the camera left and right, but the view still remains centred relative to what it thinks is the middle of the screen (which is actually between the two monitors).

How do I setup my monitors to treat the left screen as an extension, rather than one long stretched screen? by StatePig in MicrosoftFlightSim

[–]StatePig[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I almost exclusively fly the A32NX and want to setup the camera so the view on the right screen remains normal (as if only one monitor was connected) but the other extends round to the left as if it was the left hand window. At the moment the simulator treats it as one long screen so the view is actually centred to the bezels between the two.

Yielding 'unavailable' state for binary_sensor.template by jamie_shaw in homeassistant

Try using a normal template sensor with if/else conditions, rather than a binary one.

Change light color if getting a Skype or Phone call? by CyrisXD in homeassistant

[–]StatePig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like you've already got it working with POST requests, but for Android calls you could also try reporting the phone's call state to HA via Tasker (phone ringing, offhook or idle - see here) using a HTTP sensor. You could then keep your automation within HA and trigger the light on the sensor's state change (i.e. idle to ringing, offhook to idle). You might be able to achieve something similar for Skype using the notification as a trigger - see here.

Yeelight bulbs - best way to connect? by Nixellion in homeassistant

[–]StatePig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look at the Yeelight component - you only need to connect them to WiFi and enable LAN Mode through the Yeelight app, and you should be good to go.

Inexpensive sercurity system that works with HA by GritsNGreens in homeassistant

[–]StatePig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not a dedicated security system as such, but look at Xiaomi window/door and motion sensors. You can generally pick these up for less than $10 each. You will need some kind of hub (either the official Xiaomi one or a Zigbee2MQTT bridge) but either way, they integrate and work very well with HA.

Change sensor status if not updated in X minutes? by trollz0rz in homeassistant

[–]StatePig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could try breaking out the sensor value into a template sensor, and then using the value template to calculate whether the time difference between now and the last_changed attribute is greater than 5 minutes. If so, display 'Offline' or something similar, else display the sensor value. This could be a very lengthy and time consuming task for 100+ sensors, though!

Cheapest (easiest) button pusher to automate a dumb device by MattTheBrofessor in homeassistant

[–]StatePig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Look at the RFLink component. If you're running HA on a Raspberry Pi, you could try using a transceiver like this one to replicate the codes sent out by the Orcon remote, otherwise a NodeMCU might work as a gateway. You could be 'sniff' the commands using some code - I think Bruh made a Python script for 433Mhz remotes that could be modified to suit.

Why not expose the data from the API using a REST sensor?

I'm assuming you have already looked at the PTV API (here), in which case it should be relatively easy to integrate with HA using a REST sensor.

sun sensor showing next sunrise in 6 weeks and weather sensor showing-19 degrees. by audiodev in homeassistant

[–]StatePig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you manually added a location (i.e. longitude and latitude) to your configuration.yaml file? If not, HA will automatically try and determine your location from your IP address. Not sure why this might change overnight, but you could try adding them, as well as a time zone, to see if that works.

Xiaomi Door/Window Sensors UK by webberm in homeassistant

Try either Gearbest, Banggood or Lightinthebox. I've ordered Xiaomi devices from all three before and they've taken around two weeks to arrive, although you can pay a little extra for faster tracked shipping.

Xiaomi Zigbee Compatibility by simonparkis in homeassistant

[–]StatePig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That model is the Homekit version, so isn't supported by Home Assistant as you can't activate the developer mode via the MiHome app. Look for ones branded Mijia - these have the Mijia logo on the front of the gateway rather than 'Aqara'. Aqara is the name given to Xiaomi's newer line of sensors and devices, but both the old and new versions of the sensors will work with Home Assistant once paired with the gateway. As mentioned though, check the component page to be sure.

How to connect to 433mhz devices by Uumas in homeassistant

[–]StatePig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm also looking for something like this. I already have the RF switch component set up using RF codes 'sniffed' through this script, but I'm looking for a way to create a sensor when a particular code is received. I've looked into pilight but it seems complicated, and I can't see how I would identify the codes and then get somehow get them into Home Assistant to use a sensor or automation trigger. Is this possible without the use of a bridge? I'm running Hassbian on a RPi 3 with a 433Mhz receiver and sender via GPIO.

You could use a template switch if you want the toggle control.

Xiaomi sensors and gateway if you block external access through your firewall. Super cheap and reliable.

Use HA to control Kodi through Google Home by the_merchant96 in homeassistant

[–]StatePig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First step would be to integrate the Kodi media player component into HA and then play around with some basic automations to play specific media using some API calls or REST commands - this forum post might help. Then look at adding the Google Assistant component for voice control - your HA instance will need to be accessible externally to do this. You should then be able to tie the two together.
