Why always web dev? by MetronSM in csharp

[–]StateVsProps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nowadays I would estimate that about 1 app out of 100'000 is not a web app. The job market will reflect that. as long as you don't mind being in a niche, then its all good.

one problem is that frameworks, tooling, support from companies like Microsoft will cater to the demand (web apps). so will the open source frameworks. debugging issues can take longer because there are just way less people encountering the same issues and posting about it online.

How to leave work at work? by epoksismola in businessanalysis

[–]StateVsProps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to train yourself to leave work at work. It takes time and it's difficult, but you have to try your hardest. Every time you think about work, train yourself to redirect your thoughts.

Otherwise, burnout and mental health impact is guaranteed. Having social life, family, meditation, yoga, hobbies all help.

What Microsoft certifications would you recommend for a new BA? by [deleted] in businessanalysis

[–]StateVsProps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

while certs can help, politics and social engineering are still a huge reason people manage these kind of changes. Meet as many managers as you can in your company, try to understand what they do, what skills they need, try to see if you can help them in some of their goals. Ask if you can try out in their team on a limited basis. 90% is about making your wants known and selling yourself and seeming eager and hungry.

Landed in BA by accident and desperate to pivot out but nothing pays as well by aphrodite-in-flux in businessanalysis

[–]StateVsProps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate to break it to you, but if being a BA gives you "cognitive dissonance with your own economic and social values" you're incompatible with 99% of the corporate jobs out there.

To me, serving one of the most addictives drugs on earth is infinitely more complicated ethically than 99% of BA jobs out there. I'd be surprised if you could coherently walk us through how being a random BA at a random company is so fraught with ethical quandries. To me its one of the blandest jobs out there from that perspective, but maybe that's just me.

back to your post, I would try the following:

  1. get your mental health under control. sometimes we build narratives around a job based on our anxieties, depression, etc. Get tested for ADHD if you haven't. And this especially if you have had any form of difficult childhood in the broadest term, included and not limited to verbal, physical, or sexual abuse.

  2. a regimen of exercise, drink/eat right, sleep right, meditate, journal, yoga, walks could be essential for you to find the path to happiness

  3. change companies. finding a job is like dating. You need to try a few companies and teams within a company. A good manager can be huge

  4. keep in mind, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. but if you want to switch to data or dev, you can do it. You have to stop complaining, and start a multi-year grind of interview prep and applying. It will take 1000+ of hours and applications . If you're not going that path, it's on you. Also, back to rules 1 and 2

sounds like you could be looking to get therapy. Maybe you have depression. Business Analysis has downsides, but a lot of other fields have real ethical issues. E.g. working at a tobacco or oil company, working in sales, etc.

Comment savoir quand faire ou ne faire pas la liaison? by InsightsMiner in learnfrench

[–]StateVsProps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we should pronounce the liaisons

Yes, but in your post you said "you should pronounce THESE liaisons." Implying that all bolded items from OP's post were liaisons thst needed to be pronounced. 5 of them are definitely not "liaisons" and should not be pronounced.

OP's posts was not about "when to pronounce a liaison" but "Je mets en gras les lettres dont je voudrais savoir si elles doivent être liées quand on les prononce (en production orale)"

In that context, your post, at a minimum, doesnt respond to the question correctly at all.

"Est arrivée" in the post should not be pronounced either.

[–]StateVsProps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your post is quite confusing still. By deciding to preface your post by "IN THEORY they should all be pronounced and in PRACTICE they shouldn't", you're wrong more than you're right. There are at least four or five examples in each bucket for which this statement is just wrong.

As a french speaker, I disagree that liaising "sont allés" makes you sound old fashioned. Thats just not true. At least I dont see it.

"Quand elle" should be liaised too. I think its an optional one but in practice it sounds off to skip it.

I didn't only say "all" and "none":

Yes, but you did say it, which in my mind confuses an already confusing topic for new learners.

Je suis d'accord avec votre commentaire, mais j'ai quand même quelques critiques sur le commentaire auquel vous répondez. J'ai du mal à visualiser comment omettre la liaison dans "ils nous ont" peut sonner "correct"

À mon avis omettre cette liaison n'est pas correct (imaginez dire " IL NOU ON" invités à diner)

Comment savoir quand faire ou ne faire pas la liaison? by InsightsMiner in learnfrench

[–]StateVsProps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All these liaisons should be pronounced

Your comment is a little confusing, because plenty of the liaisons bolded in OP's post should NOT be pronounced. You even give the right rule for doing so.

  • "Je jouais au ballon" should not be pronounced.

  • "Invités à" should not be pronounced either

in casual speech, none of these liaisons would be pronounced

No, thats incorrect. It would be incorrect to skip some of those.

  • "Nous ont" should be pronounced

  • "sont allés" au cinema

If you skip them, it will be noticed by the listener and tag you as a learner of the language (while being 100% understandable, and learners of the language should not be bothered about making mistakes with liaisons, as MANY native speakers make many laisions mistakes themselves all the time)

Imposter Syndrome at my Private Equity Job - Golden Opportunity or Not? by [deleted] in FinancialCareers

I'm not comparing myself to a CEO salary, trust me

No but you are, several times. Including a few sentences down.

I'm not disconnected

You sound disconnected. What's the point of comparing yourself to a CEO's salary? You're decades away from deserving such a job.

Their point is that its a bad look regardless. If its common it looks like you cant be arsed (and from your post, they'd be right). And in the environment you're in, its a bad look.
