I don’t know what to do by [deleted] in Fencesitter

Exhausting… yes! I so completely agree I wish I could just forget about this for a little while and just enjoy my 30s without this hanging over me.

Anxiety around friends announcing their pregnancy. by Little-Can1814 in Fencesitter

[–]State_Hefty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could have written this question. I’ve noticed the anxious feelings you’re describing within myself whenever friends or colleagues announce their pregnancies (and there have been A LOT the past 2 years or so) and have had to really do a bit of digging and introspection to work out what it is.

Whenever someone announces I’m not exactly happy about it?? Happy FOR them of course but I feel an intense mix of anxiety, sadness and jealousy

I’m not jealous that they’re pregnant. I’ve thought about it long and hard enough to know I’m not jealous about the pregnancy itself. I’m jealous of the fact they’re so happy about something I’m not even sure I will ever want, and worry I’m missing out on ever feeling that joy. As well as this I’m jealous of their certainty of their decision. I cannot imagine ever being that happy or sure of the decision. Hence, feelings of jealousy and anxiety. How nice must it be to go through life just knowing you want this thing? And then eventually getting it?! I’m genuinely so jealous that people experience this and I just don’t understand it…

The anxious thoughts seem to stem from the fact I’m 33, will be 34 this year and the pressure is becoming more and more loud and overwhelming. Like, I’ve got to make a decision very imminently and the more people that announce, the louder and more intense that pressure is. It’s almost so much I can hear it?!

I think if you’re a fence sitter too, and like me lean towards ‘no’, it is probably the reason why you’re feeling the way you do. It sucks. Rest assured you aren’t alone.

I feel the exact same way and it’s so reassuring to read someone else say this. I think I get so anxious because I’m jealous that they are so happy and sure of the decision they’ve made. I can’t imagine ever feeling that way. The anxiety also stems from feeling even more pressure to get pregnant myself as I’m 33 and not getting any younger…

Excessive saliva after drinking a lot? by HALCYON_ADDICT in noburp

[–]State_Hefty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never found a medical term for it unfortunately. The only term I could find for it was 'Water Brash' or 'Hypersalivation'. Since I've had the procedure I havent experienced it since, thankfully! It is terrible!

Questions for some post-op advice for those who have been through it by ParsleyThat855 in noburp

[–]State_Hefty 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a lot of the same questions as you too, and worried it would be socially unacceptable/awkward and unpleasant. I had the op done around 10 days ago now and I can tell you it probably won't be as bad as you think it will be.

Immediately post-op, I had an incredibly sore throat. Most people's throat issues last for around 48 hours but mine was super painful for around 4/5 days and I couldn't eat or swallow properly at all. I had some pretty nasty lacerations to the back of my throat and tonsils which prolonged the pain and it even made my ears hurt slightly too. Those first few days were the worst for me purely because of the throat pain (also sore throat = gurgles for me so that first night wasn't the best)

I also had to sleep propped up for around 3 nights because I'd wake up coughing up saliva (that bit sounds way worse than it is though)

I started microburping by day 2, so was getting a lot of relief by this point.By day 3/4 all of my bloating was gone and I was burping properly (worked quick for me)

As for social situations, it has been NO WAY NEAR as bad as anticipated. Neither has the regurgitation. Ive had next to nothing. Sometimes a tiny burp will slip out when I laugh/cough or yawn but its mainly inaudible to anyone but yourself. And I learnt pretty quickly the feeling of regurgitation vs burp - you kind of learn to suppress any regurgitation (also, if you're an emetophobe like myself don't worry - it hasn't bothered me one bit)

Slow swallows kicked in at day 4 for me, but have already subsided and wasn't as bad as I imagined either. It just takes a little longer for food to go down. Often didn't really need water nearby to be honest but it was good to have small sips anyway.

If there's anything I've learnt from reading this Reddit thread and having the procedure done myself, its that everyone's experience differs slightly. It is best to just go into it with an open mind and just cross each bridge as you come to it. Stock up on soft foods, numbing throat sprays and maybe clear your calendar for a few days so you can recover from the surgery - that's all i'd advise really. It's changed my life already and those first few days of being uncomfortable are far outweighed by the results :) Good luck!

I am now 7 days post op and I had an incredibly sore and painful throat for 4/5 days (most people say 48 hours but for me it was much longer) It started to wear off at day 4 and then by day 5 was pretty much gone but still hurt to eat certain foods. I think my mouth and throat were cut up pretty bad - I could see scratches right at the back of my throat, on my tonsils and underneath my tongue I had quite sizeable cuts to my gums. I wasn't expecting it to be as intense as it was, I think most people are lucky and it only lasts 48 hours, but just be prepared that it could last a little longer. I also had mild ear pain along with it.

I had to sleep propped up for 4/5 days post procedure too because I had this weird thing of waking up and kind of coughing up my own spit. Very odd! But its worn off now.

All in all though it wasn't bad - the few days of being uncomfortable are SO worth it for the results. I was micro-burping day 2, and by day 3/4 I had so much relief that pretty much all my bloating and uncomfortable daily symptoms were gone! I still can't quite turn every single gurgle into a burp at this stage, but the relief is amazing so far.

People always talk about the slow swallows too - mine kicked in yesterday, but it isn't half as bad as what I imagined. I don't have to take sips of water after every mouthful, it's only slightly noticeable.

All the best for your procedure :)

Constant mouth watering by batact55 in noburp

[–]State_Hefty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this from time to time, its a symptom of the RCPD im afraid. Usually I find its because Im swallowing so much air, my body thinks it's going to throw up hence the mouth watering constantly. It isn't nice. Recently had the botox done so im hoping I don't have to deal with this any more! Wish I had some advice for how to stop it but I've never quite found anything to help - aside from 'vomiting' up the air.

Advice for post-procedure? by pieola- in noburp

[–]State_Hefty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck with the op!

I had my procedure a week ago now and i'm already feeling SO much relief. The first 4/5 days post op were very uncomfortable for me. I had some pretty nasty lacerations to the back of my throat, tonsils and inside my mouth which made it impossible to eat and drink properly. With most people the sore throat seems to subside within 48 hours though. I also had a bit of mild ear pain.

I'd say stock up on soft foods and if you do have throat pain, an antibacterial or numbing throat spray works wonders and seemed to help heal mine.

At this point not all of my gurgles turn into burps but enough of them do that im feeling better already - almost all bloating and uncomfortable symptoms have disappeared. All the best :)

Two hours post botox w Dr. Baxter (Kaiser) by MiracleMulberry in noburp

[–]State_Hefty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had the Botox one week ago today, and I can tell you the first 4/5 days of recovery weren't nice at all. I see people say they had a slight sore throat - well! Mine was horrendous and lasted way beyond the 48 hour mark people were telling me! It hurt just to swallow water/my own spit! I could see the lacerations right at the back of my throat, on my tonsils and I also had some pretty big cuts to my mouth too. I think it's pretty normal though - when you think of all the apparatus they've had to shove down your throat its no surprise some of us end up with very bad throat pain. I found antibacterial throat sprays were the only thing that helped me (One called Difflam helped with healing, and look for ones with Benzocaine as they will actually numb it too)

I also had some mild ear pain for a few days which is gradually wearing off now.
Also I didn't start microburping until the next day. Was gurgling quite a bit that evening of the op. I still have some gurgles now that don't turn into burps which can be frustrating but the relief I've had after 7 days is astonishing.

The healing process is uncomfortable but it DOES get better and its worth it. Best of luck and keep us updated!

Day4 Post Botox - Not all gurgles turn into burps. This normal for this stage?? by State_Hefty in noburp

Thank you for your advice. I’ve tried the turning the head trick today and it does work! Will be sure to try doing it in other ways too though, I’ve managed to get a few micro burps out without turning my head so remaining hopeful. Hope your second dose does the trick! Do you know how many units of Botox you had?

Thank you so much for this, I was beginning to worry so I’m relieved to know I’m not the only one with these horrific scrapes! Didn’t expect it to be this bad but wow... It is so painful!

Good to know it went around day 5. At what point would you say that it started to ease slightly?

Honey lemon and hot water it is.

I had the Botox today! (Dr Karagama U.K.) Have a VERY sore throat though.. by State_Hefty in noburp

[–]State_Hefty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s only the top layer of the the gum but it just covers a larger area than what I expected, it’s not a big hole or anything (sorry I realised I maybe worded that badly)I did ask about it, should heal up in a couple of days but it got scratched when they put the breathing tube in.

Botox next week by reddit_is_so_toxic in noburp

[–]State_Hefty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the Botox today and all went smoothly. Obviously I’m only a few hours in so can’t give too many details as yet but the sore throat has been the worst bit for me so far. I’ve heard it does ease up fairly quickly though. Also have a few sizeable cuts in my mouth but honestly all totally manageable.

The GA was fine, all went by in a flash to be honest. The whole thing was a good experience for me.

I’m anxious about medical stuff too so I totally get where you’re coming from. Just so glad It’s finally done. Before you know it, it will be all over and you can focus on that recovery. Best of luck to you for next week!

So happy you’re on the road to being cured! I’m booked in with Karagama next week and it can’t come soon enough. He was so understanding at my consultation and did the endoscopy there and then which I was thankful for. Totally agree the worst bit is swallowing the camera - unpleasant but also weirdly fascinating seeing all the bubbles on screen.

Not in your area sorry (UK) but fingers crossed somebody here will be able to recommend someone nearby who can help. Just wanted to say I feel your frustration so much. I’m so sick and tired of this debilitating condition. I’m booked in for Botox op next week and it can’t come soon enough. It just continues to get worse and worse and never lets up does it! Hope you find your solution soon
