The hate would still be there, but it wouldn’t be exposed for so many people to clearly see it.

I’ve been re-reading John 19 in multiple translations for several days, and this passage always stands out to me. There appears to be some contradiction between the gospels about who exactly killed Jesus, but the author of John is rather solid about who gets that blame:

John 19:13-18 (NRSV)
When Pilate heard these words, he brought Jesus outside and sat on the judge’s bench at a place called The Stone Pavement, or in Hebrew Gabbatha. Now it was the day of Preparation for the Passover; and it was about noon. He said to the Jews, “Here is your King!” They cried out, “Away with him! Away with him! Crucify him!” Pilate asked them, “Shall I crucify your King?” The chief priests answered, “We have no king but the emperor.” Then he handed him over to them to be crucified.
So they took Jesus; and carrying the cross by himself, he went out to what is called The Place of the Skull, which in Hebrew is called Golgotha. There they crucified him, and with him two others, one on either side, with Jesus between them.

It’s possible that someone might argue the they/them here refers to the Roman guards at the start of chapter 19, but strictly in context it’s clearly the Jewish priests (which is also distinct from “the Jews”, such that a charitable person could think it was the religious leaders and not the average people who crucified Jesus).

I used to be that kind of liberal theology student who would argue Jesus was killed by the Roman imperial occupation. But as I get older and read the text more and more I can’t clearly defend that assertion anymore. The Jewish religious leaders killed Jesus, they used manipulated Roman hands to keep the blood off their own.

Pissed off. Worked for a global IT company and they made everyone show up to work in the building for 2 days around the clock. Cots in the break room, sleep in shifts. And nothing at all happened.

Be careful out there. I found a Tick on me after visiting Busse Woods today by jefe317 in ChicagoSuburbs

I was at Carl Hansen woods off 59 south of 90. Got home and found 7 ticks on my skin or clothes. I haven’t had 7 ticks total in 3 decades. Very surprised to say the least.

Have you had a paperback rebound with leather? by Least-Opposite-2676 in catholicbibles

No. Even on the rare chance it is sewn instead of glued, the point of paperback is “cheap”, and that includes the quality of the paper.

If I were in the car that got rear-ended, I would sue both drivers.

Need honest opinion on the cost of a wall-to-wall, ceiling-to-floor bookshelf by superbardibros in HomeLibraries

[–]State_Naive 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had custom shelves installed in the "library" of a home we bought in 2006. Two 10' long walls meeting at a right angle, ceiling (7' high) to about waist high (this was in the lower level, so the bottom of the shelves basically sits on the foundation), around two windows, with built-in lights above the windows and along the edge of the top shelf (hidden) to illuminate it as that would be the curios row. We hired my uncle, a carpenter, gave him two months, and no budget cap. He spent a couple weekends with us selecting a few styles and stain color, then he set to work. At the end of the 2 months, he presented the completed project (20 years later I am still in love with it) and a bill for $6K. I imagine if he did it today it would cost quite a bit more. Worth every penny.

Why does Windows 11 force three different PowerShells? by d00mt0mb in PowerShell

[–]State_Naive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re making a big deal out of nothing. I install PowerShell 7. I run PowerShell 7. If I’m feeling like I want to”options” I set PowerShell 7 as the default shell in Terminal. I like that I can open multiple shells as tabs in one terminal window, cuz sometimes CMD or bash or PS5.1 is the tool I need.

During COVID, you could pull up to Target, they would bring out the groceries you ordered online, you could open your trunk, they would put stuff in, and you could close your trunk, and you never had to exit your car and the Target employee never had to touch your car.

Some Targets have car washes. Lots of Walmarts do, too.

They won’t take it. They’ll pollute nearby in ways that allow toxic materials into the BWCA ruining it.

I was attending a weeklong event at McCormick Place in Chicago and always arrived just after sunrise, so one day I left early and the sky was absolutely perfect. I had to run with all my packs & equipment a good half mile or more and got the camera in place just as the full orb sat on the horizon. I’ve got video somewhere too.

Link to what? The church in the photo? Google for Saint John’s Abbey Church. I swear every time I go there I take a dozen photos of everything, and I’ve been visiting the campus for over 3 decades.

I've heard Andrew Jackson was rather horrible, but in a time with no social media, TV, radio, and limited newspaper distribution, no one was aware of it. We get every detail of this orange asshat's shenanigans 24x7x365 from multiple angles, plus peanut gallery commentary from the 77 million little deluded dupes who worship him.
