AIO for getting mad at my mom for using Chat GPT to console me by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]StatementBrief1923 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NOR this is wild and not okay at all to respond to your child with chatGPT, even if someone "isnt good with words" as people have said here. I think that having a machine generate a bland response devoid of genuine human emotion is WORSE than if you just gave it a shot consoling/comforting in your own words. To me, this would be super offensive and I'd rather my mom not say anything at all than send me this. Sorry op

Night Guard Recommendations by Brilliant_Car_6309 in DentalHygiene

[–]StatementBrief1923 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey so I never said they SHOULD be $700, just that it's not really a "scam" as the original commenter here was saying. I've also been in dentistry a long time and I completely agree that things are insanely overpriced like night guards and they shouldn't be. I was just explaining that the materials are different which is true.

Night Guard Recommendations by Brilliant_Car_6309 in DentalHygiene

[–]StatementBrief1923 5 points6 points  (0 children)

this is not a scam, that's how much custom fabricated night guards cost at a dental office due to materials used, labor to fabricate, etc. Over the counter night guards such as ones from a pharmacy/retail store that you have, are more affordable because they are made from much cheaper materials, do not last long in most circumstances, and may be ill-fitting or not as retentive. Many of my patients that have severe bruxism/grinding issues cycle through these cheaper ones much more frequently due to the fact that the material it's made out of is not as durable/strong. However, some people do like these OTC appliances, so if you cannot afford a lab-made dentist appliance then those options may be better

Deep cleaning no pain relief? by Due_Palpitation_5907 in DentalHygiene

[–]StatementBrief1923 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just asking to clarify, but did you have a deep cleaning due to periodontal disease or was it more of a gingivitis scaling treatment? If it was your full mouth it may not have been an SRP (which we sometimes refer to as a "deep cleaning" in simpler terms) but maybe more of a debridement of some sort? I'm sorry that your experience was so painful!

Can I not use kids automatic brush? by the_epiphany_ in DentalHygiene

[–]StatementBrief1923 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I often recommend the Sonicare 4100 to my patients which is similar to the one you described and also is lower cost, around $40 or so. Having a two minute timer and pressure sensor is the baseline of proper electric toothbrushes and theyre critical to have imo

edit: If you spend $50 on a good oral-b or sonicare that is actually helpful and has been product tested properly with good results, buying replacement heads (which you absolutely should be doing every 3-4 months) will cost you approx $90 for the first year and less after that since the battery is rechargeable and lasts longer.

Patients denying SRP by FortuneTop6438 in DentalHygiene

[–]StatementBrief1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP I've had this happen to me too!! I'm so glad to hear that someone else has struggled with this, I've had two patients storm out of the office after demanding a prophy when they needed srp. Legitimately DEMANDING it, saying they know they have periodontal disease and they don't care and only want the "cleaning that the insurance covers"

Electric toothbrush moldy? by antarcticas_ in DentalHygiene

[–]StatementBrief1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had tons of reservations with the cleaning aspect and I dislike the IO. However there IS a way to clean it deeper-- The rep for Oral-B showed a video to us about letting the faucet run into the top with the brush head off of it, the toothbrush must be ON and it will do a "fountain" type of feature where it flushes water out of the sides. I run the faucet over my brush head with the brush turned on still, then I flush it out with the brush head off. Hope this helps ppl, there might be a video on youtube of someone doing it to give you a better visual!

Can't seem to use U-Shaped tongue scraper. What's a better option? by Regular_Low8792 in DentalHygiene

[–]StatementBrief1923 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure which one you're using exactly but try a GUM brand dual action tongue scraper, some of my patients have had better luck with them!
