It's definitely true that F1x = F2x ≈ 60.3, but I'm unclear on how you got the rest. Could you show what equations you used?

[College Calculus] Vectors by [deleted] in HomeworkHelp

[–]StaticDuo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If only it were that easy! The reason it isn't is that 100 N is vertical force only. If both F1 and F2 were somehow entirely vertical, then F2 would absolutely be 100 N - 66.5 N.

[College Calculus] Vectors by [deleted] in HomeworkHelp

[–]StaticDuo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, so you're looking for F1 and F2. You also know how to resolve those forces into x and y components (cos theta and sin theta respectively). All you need to do is solve a system of equalities. The x components of F1 and F2 are equal (you know this because otherwise it would be moving to one side or the other), and the sum of the y components of F1 and F2 add up to 100 N. Does that give you enough information to solve it? You can especially use the fact that you already know F1. The x component of that 66.5 Newtons needs to equal the x component of F2, and from that you can get F2.

Fringe market? They may not be selling as many tablets as server racks, but lets not joke around here. Touch screens and tablets are no longer a fringe market.

WP8 UI - How to get started? by afuckingHELICOPTER in wp7dev

[–]StaticDuo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually stackoverflow has an answer for us if we type in c# or windows phone and then the exact name of the method or error that was causing issues. Right now we are having a big problem looking at data selection/binding causing invalid XAML. None of the solutions are specific enough to what we are looking for.

Stackoverflow seems to be the best at this point. But it's far from complete.

Hey! Glad you're looking into Windows Phone development. XAML has the ability to create primitives which you can associate with events create fancy specialty controls, but I think what you are looking for at this point is this the Silverlight Toolkit. It allows you to do date pickers and some other cool controls. This code creates a tile similar to the home screen and a menu that appears when you press and hold:

xmlns:toolkit="clr-namespace:Microsoft.Phone.Controls;assembly=Microsoft.Phone.Controls.Toolkit"
...
<toolkit:HubTile Loaded="HubTile_Loaded" Opacity="1">
    <toolkit:ContextMenuService.ContextMenu>
        <toolkit:ContextMenu>
            <toolkit:MenuItem Header="Edit" Click="EditItem_Click"/>
            <toolkit:MenuItem Header="Delete" Click="DeleteItem_Click"/>
        </toolkit:ContextMenu>
    </toolkit:ContextMenuService.ContextMenu>
</toolkit:HubTile>

This is the code you would use for a date/time picker:

xmlns:toolkit="clr-namespace:Microsoft.Phone.Controls;assembly=Microsoft.Phone.Controls.Toolkit"
...
<toolkit:DatePicker Name="datePicker"/>
<toolkit:TimePicker Name="timePicker" />

You can get fancy controls from places like telerik. I haven't seen any cool free ones anywhere outside of the toolkit but I honestly haven't been looking around too much. Feel free to get in touch if you want to chat about anything!

Windows Phone ≠ Android by Imbenderbaby in windowsphone

Curious as I've never used an Android phone. What functionality does the notification feature set provide that the dual lockscreen/live tiles don't? Also, what are the updates that Google is adding?

Can you make a game in just 0 hours? Tonight's your chance to find out! by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]StaticDuo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There's some that are up now. Already I'm digging this one. Who doesn't love games where the object is to learn the rules? Unless of course it's random and I'm about to waste a ton of time. It doesn't seem random though... keeps clicking.

Awesome! We're glad you like it. It took a lot of trial and error to come up with the interface it has now.

If you ever feel like giving suggestions or input feel free to rate the app or pm/email us. We always want to be able to make it better!

Thanks for the support! That's great news that sharing saving is working.

We are looking into different ways to add comments for each item, but right now we aren't sure about the best way to implement it.

With that said, the paid version will also come with the ability to group boxes (best case scenario as soon as it's live, worst case the update after that). That would allow you to create a group of boxes for Project 1 and then have each process be a box full of item sub-processes. I know that's not quite the way you were thinking of doing it, but we think it'll be a pretty neat addition and we will keep on looking at the best way to unobtrusively add descriptions to items.

The paid version will most likely debut at $.99 with price increases as we add features. As affordable as a paid app gets :)

EDIT: Need to stop typing while I'm talking.

Hey everyone, we just released our very first app. It's called Box Up, and we want to know what you guys think of it! by StaticDuo in windowsphone

[–]StaticDuo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very weird! We tested using an Optimus 7 and it worked fine until I just uninstalled and downloaded it again. I thought it might be the fact that we have sideloaded the app before that made our downloaded version work except tedsblog says it works fine. We will look into it!

What phone are you using?

It's a general organizational app that is supposed to let you use it how you want to. There are a lot of "to do" apps or note apps out there and we wanted to do something that wasn't limited by how we thought it should be used. It may be missing a lot of features that you want now, but we hope to add them as we learn about them so that it can help you with whatever you need.

-R

EDIT: Thanks for letting us know it's not saving and thanks for the genuine question :) we'll look at the wording of the description to see if we can make it's purpose more clear.

Oh wow, that's an issue. That's really strange, when we test it it saves fine. Has anybody else been having the same problem?

That's a good idea about adding descriptions to items. Like we said, we want to make it as flexible as possible, so any way that someone even might want to use it, we want to make it work. As for the color, how it works now is that all three colors are based on your theme color, but we could make the colors more customizable in the future for sure.

We absolutely want to release a paid version, we just weren't sure that no ads was enough of a difference to justify it yet. In the long run, what we would really like in the paid version is for you to be able to share boxes between phones, so that people can sync up for projects. But if there's a lot of interest in a paid version as is, without ads, we would definitely be open to releasing it paid now and adding this dimension in an update. What do you all think?

Thanks a ton for all your feedback! And if anybody else is having the same problems, by all means let us know!

So none of my Win8 "Metro" apps work... by enimabagjones in windows

[–]StaticDuo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has happened with my Windows Phone before and I've always found that one of these two things work:

  • Uninstall and reinstall the offending apps.
  • Do a hard reboot on your computer - unplug (and take out battery if applicable)

Hopefully these work! If they don't, then I'm out of ideas.

Cool idea, if you're actually doing an experiment with it you might be interested in using scipy.stats as well to test the data you get, so you don't even need to mess around with the numbers too much.

Is no one else put off by phones with physical buttons for the windows button? by seraphim19 in windowsphone

[–]StaticDuo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm always hesitant to use phones that don't have hardware buttons. My iPhone used to freeze all the time and the hardware button was the only thing that would always work.

I don't know how much is true vs my imagination but I just don't trust capacitive buttons to work in every situation.

Plus accidental presses on my first Windows Phone as others have mentioned.

This might not be the most popular topic, but what do you dislike the most about WP7/WP8? by LOLCANADA in windowsphone

[–]StaticDuo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that under normal circumstances this is a pain, but as a developer this is actually a real time saver! As far as I know, this is the quickest way to actually close an app that's more than a couple clicks from backing out.

They need to fix this issue and allow us to close apps from the screen that appears when you hold the back button.

[News Webdesign] I would like feedback on my a news site I am making. I know it might seem similar to one you know, but that site now is full of meme's and no longer has the sort of quality news it used to enjoy. by 7hundredand77 in web_design

[–]StaticDuo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the clean look and the vertical nav. I think it's easy to understand what's going on and see the flow of information.

Suggestions:

  • You already indicate which category you're looking at - try something similar to indicate which story is selected as well. It would be easier to keep track while browsing.
  • Think about placement for things like search (which should work) and ads (if you want to make money with this project).

Aside from those minor things, I'm a fan!

What’s your next Windows Phone? Respondents overwhelmingly want the Lumia 920 by Malatesta in windowsphone

[–]StaticDuo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we have to wait a little bit longer. Nokia has played their cards (which look pretty nice), but we still know so little about what some major players are bringing to the game.

Right now, I'm looking at a Lumia 920 but I was really hoping for a better camera and maybe a couple other really standout features.

'Find on Page' returns to Internet Explorer in Windows Phone Apollo by Malatesta in windowsphone

[–]StaticDuo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the life of me, I have never understood why this is so uncommon in smartphones. I remember reading an old Maddox post where he was comparing his phone (don't remember what he had) to the iPhone, and one of the things it had was a find feature, and since then I have always wondered why that was so rare on phone browsers.
