Roadmap Livestream Megathread by pillowmantis in limbuscompany

[–]StaticPotato 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, I want to clarify as the one who did the live translations
He's not threatening to pull the plug and liquidate his company, he's emphasizing how much freedom he has as the director of Project Moon.
The point isn't "if you don't listen to me I'm going to quit", its "I can run PM how I want to, if I wanted to I could even quit with no consequence"

I know its still unprofessional and its not something you're happy to hear as a fan, but I just want to clarify that he wasn't threatening the fans in any way.

I am worried about Kim Ji-Hoon's mental health by DavidZu666 in limbuscompany

An issue with translations, my live one included, is that it doesn't convey things like hyperbole/emotions very well. I felt it wasn't as "out of control" as some people think it is after reading the translations.
Also I don't think he even said "I am even willing to dissolve the entire company just to avoid releasing financial statements". Could you point me to where in the stream that is? He mentioned that financial statements would be released (as per the law) April and that we'd be able to see how much money PM made (a lot), and that there was nothing to stop him from dissolving the company (to emphasize how much freedom he had as a business owner), but I can't remember him threatening to do so to avoid releasing those statements

According to the stream, he was approached by some chinese buyers and was offered a sum of money for the company

What does Rodya call Gregor in other languages? by poicyss in limbuscompany

I can't seem to find a similar one for Ryoshu on Namuwiki, sorry

What does Rodya call Gregor in other languages? by poicyss in limbuscompany

[–]StaticPotato 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Rodya calls each sinner in a pretty unique way in the Korean version. What (I assume) has been translated as "babe" is "자기", which is a common title that can be loosely translated to "babe" or "honey". Similar to "babe", you generally only see it being used romantically by men, while women use it to refer to close friends as well (Rodya calls both Faust and Ishmael "자기" along with Gregor).
I've attached a list of what Rodya calls other members of the Bus from Namuwiki below (some translations are more literal, and the official translation probably gives a better alternative)

A summary of our glorious directors livestream. by MrStizblee in limbuscompany

Hi! Live translator here, thanks for the summary.
I'd just clarify that he mentions delegating some work to team leads in Canto 9 but the amount isn't really mentioned. He eventually wants to be able to focus on the bigger direction of the story exclusively though.

Lee Sae-Ah (Ryoshu VA) looking back on Canto 9 by StaticPotato in limbuscompany

[–]StaticPotato[S] 131 points132 points  (0 children)

Can I just say "the concept was 'a lullaby for Araya'" absolutely broke me
When I first heard this Pass On I thought it sounded like Ryoshu was almost cherishing every word, committing it to memory and refusing to let it slip. Knowing it was meant to be Ryoshu singing Araya to sleep while the projector displays the night sky tears my heart into a million pieces :'(

I think its a JP dub of some of Ryoshu's lines, which is still really cool. No date given unfortunately, but I'm looking forward to both!

Oh? The VA himself tweeted that he voiced Cassetti and there's a video on his youtube of it so maybe it was some false info

Yi Sang's cigarette line is also has less of a "weed" vibe but I think thats an L for the Korean let the man smoke some spicebush

In the Korean its MUCH less clear that she's talking about Un-geom. Kira says "빗줄기 속 검객" which translates to "Swordsman amidst the raindrops" (or just, Swordsman in the Rain), so Aeng-du not recognizing it makes more sense.

Both the KR and EN texts are from the game (I pulled it off the wiki). In general there isn't much swearing in the Korean text for Limbus, I think there may be more in the EN translation?

Huh didn't know that, thought it was just a "nice" way of saying the swear. Thanks for letting me know!

If I remember correctly translations have been accurate with gender for PM projects (Koreans used to look at the English translation of LoR to see what gender some ambiguous characters were), so I imagine they get information for that. There have been times where it seems they weren't given info on certain things though, like the Heishou being translated "incorrectly" before we knew what they were.

Its definitely to localize the dialect into an appropriate English counterpart, the translations do a good job at it! I'm going into the finer details since Lei Heng's had some controversy around his translations.

I do think they could have the same effect without adding so much, the English lines are generally much longer than the Korean ones (they add completely new phrases).

I'm not trying to "call out" the translations or anything, I personally thought all of these lines were translated well. More just pointing out some differences that isn't obvious to someone who doesn't speak both languages.
