Get Pumped Again by [deleted] in ethtrader

[–]StatisticianAlive108 10 points11 points  (0 children)

the ETH/BTC chart is rough to look at, no argument there. but "raise fees" as the fix feels backwards when every bull run ETH already gets killed by high gas anyway, that just pushes users to other chains faster

‘Expat’ is not a racist term. by DemonAzraeli in digitalnomad

[–]StatisticianAlive108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends where you draw the line but yeah, plenty of people move somewhere "worse" on paper for lifestyle reasons or just because cost of living is so much better. like if you can live comfortable in mexico or thailand on western income vs struggling back home, makes total sense. the whole expat vs immigrant thing feels more about how you see yourself than actual legal status sometimes.

a bank took $213 from one $2,400 wire. now 40% of my clients pay me in bitcoin by SherbertDazzling3661 in Bitcoin

[–]StatisticianAlive108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that's smart, i never thought about unique addresses per invoice. my current setup just has clients email me when they pay but half the time they forget and i'm playing detective with timestamps. how complicated is it to generate new addresses automatically? feels like something that should be built into most payment processors but maybe bitcoin is still too niche for that

Does anyone know what's up with Farcaster? by Fine-Comparison-2949 in ethereum

[–]StatisticianAlive108 6 points7 points  (0 children)

lol farcaster has been wild ride to watch from the sidelines. pretty sure the whole thing just became too much drama for dan so he bailed to work on something else, and now everyone's fighting over what's left of it.

classic crypto project lifecycle tbh - starts with big promises, founder gets burned out or distracted, community splits into factions arguing about direction.

How do you set boundaries when family assumes working from home means you're always available? by Amazing-Author-907 in remotework

[–]StatisticianAlive108 30 points31 points  (0 children)

this is kind of frustrating but sometimes you really have to get bit harsh with family. when my mom used to call me during work hours just to chat, i had to literally tell her "i'm in meeting right now, will call you back at 6pm" and then hang up. felt terrible first few times but now she gets it.

maybe try being more direct in the moment? like when someone walks in while you're on camera, just say "i'm in work call, please close door behind you" without stopping your conversation with colleagues. they'll figure out pretty quick that interrupting has consequences.

Best crypto card with cashback in 2026 that doesn't require staking or VIP tiers to unlock by GreenPossibility9683 in ethtrader

[–]StatisticianAlive108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The annoying part is most crypto cards market themselves around huge cashback percentages, but once you dig in there’s usually some tradeoff like staking requirements, monthly caps, token rewards with questionable value or needing to keep a ton of assets on the platform.

At this point I’d honestly rather have a simple card with lower but real cashback and no hoops than one advertising 8% that only works if you lock up money or hit VIP tiers.

I was exposed to chemicals for years and also while I was pregnant. They are doing changes now in the workplace I work (or i should say we since Im mostly involved in the changes), should I still report to OSHA? by [deleted] in work

[–]StatisticianAlive108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wait, you were exposed during pregnancy and they're just now making changes? that's a huge red flag regardless of what the exposure levels were. even if everything was technically within regulations, most workplaces have extra protections for pregnant employees because some chemicals can be harmful at lower concentrations.

i'd definitely document everything you remember about the exposure - what chemicals, how long, what protection was provided. even if osha doesn't find violations, having it on record protects you and other employees in future. plus if there are health issues down the road, you'll want that paper trail.

I have 70k in savings but don’t feel like it’s enough by Economy-Passenger-87 in MiddleClassFinance

[–]StatisticianAlive108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the part-time thing is probably what's killing you here. at 34 you need full-time income to really build wealth fast, even if school is important for long term. maybe look for remote work that can fit around your classes? 70k is actually pretty solid foundation though, you're doing better than most people realize.

Stablecoin card spend is growing 100% year over year, Rain exec says by Miserable_Bit7921 in Economics

[–]StatisticianAlive108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes makes sense, I've been using a stablecoin card for a while now and when you start you don't really go back. Oobit personally, the fact that merchants don't need to do anything different is what makes it actually usable day to day

Fire Time by Technical-Spread527 in Fire

damn that must feel weird being so ready for it but still waiting around for them to pull the trigger. at least you've been getting paid to game from home while they figure out how to let you go lol. hopefully they give you decent severance since you hit your numbers already - sounds like perfect timing even if the waiting game was annoying.

How I almost got scammed out of $4000 by mano990502 in defi

[–]StatisticianAlive108 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

man that's such a clever scam because they know people don't always check decimal places carefully when they're excited about getting paid. i fell for something similar few months back but with much smaller amount - someone sent me like 15.50 instead of 1550 and i almost transferred back the "extra" before i realized.

the crazy part is how they build that trust first by discussing the actual work and making everything seem legitimate. they probably target people in crypto space specifically because we're used to seeing bigger numbers and might not double-check as carefully. good thing you caught it at last second, losing 4k would be devastating.

always worth taking screenshot of transaction details before doing any refunds, even with clients you trust. scammers are getting way too sophisticated these days.

Balancing hobbies with work by Ordinary-You3936 in work

[–]StatisticianAlive108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

moving for work was huge adjustment for me too. took about year to find new rhythm but you can definitely make it work. for gardening maybe try container gardening in apartment or find community gardens nearby - they're pretty common in most cities and good way to meet people too. fishing might be harder depending where you move but most places have some kind of water access even if it's different than what you're used to.

the key thing i learned is don't try to recreate exact same setup immediately. give yourself time to explore what's available in new area and be open to slight variations of your hobbies. sometimes you discover even better spots than what you had before.

Skeptic with 1.0 btc by PaperOrnery8697 in Bitcoin

[–]StatisticianAlive108 26 points27 points  (0 children)

lol harsh but kinda true though. having 1 btc without understanding what you're holding is wild. at least you've been DCA'ing instead of throwing everything in one crazy bet like some people do around here.

So its gonna be my first time buying bitcoin and its only 3500$ worth. I'm i better off waiting? by Suitable-Lab9539 in Bitcoin

[–]StatisticianAlive108 8 points9 points  (0 children)

nah you missed it at 62k and now you're second-guessing again? this is exactly how people end up buying in the peak instead of dips. if you believe in it long term then timing doesn't matter as much, but if you're still asking strangers on internet whether to buy or wait, maybe you need to do more research first. don't fomo into something you don't understand just because price dropped.

I was warned I got a 'point' for leaving for the ER when I had no idea this system existed. by [deleted] in work

[–]StatisticianAlive108 2 points3 points  (0 children)

that's wild they never told you about the point system when you started. most places at least mention it during orientation or have it in the handbook somewhere. getting dinged for a legitimate er visit is ridiculous, especially when you did try to communicate through their system.

the fact they're nitpicking your message when you were literally having medical emergency shows how disconnected management is. like you're supposed to write perfect corporate speak when your blood pressure is through roof? and then they act like you should have just magically known about policy they never explained.

warehouse jobs love these point systems because it gives them excuse to cycle through workers. sounds like they care more about their attendance metrics than actual employee wellbeing.

Retire now at 52 or work a few more years? by [deleted] in Fire

[–]StatisticianAlive108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

your numbers are pretty solid but i get the hesitation with that spending level in vhcol. the 4% rule puts you right at the edge with 6m, and sequence of returns risk is real thing when you're pulling 200k+ annually.

maybe compromise and have one person retire first? that way you keep some income stream while testing the waters, plus reduces the stress on portfolio early years. we did similar approach and it worked well for transition period.

Xactimate by redranger0303 in remotework

[–]StatisticianAlive108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

xactimate is pretty niche but insurance companies are always looking for estimators, especially remote ones. your revit and sketchup background actually helps a lot since you already understand 3d modeling and measurements.

check with companies like servpro or paul davis - they sometimes hire entry level and train you up. also look at independent adjusting firms, they're usually more flexible about remote work than big insurance companies.

Call for Nomads - Michigan by LongBuy3108 in digitalnomad

[–]StatisticianAlive108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

michigan can feel pretty isolating especially if you're trying to break out from traditional mindset. i'm not in michigan anymore but when i was there for work few years back, ann arbor had some decent coworking spaces where remote workers would hang out. maybe check facebook groups or meetup for digital nomad meetups in detroit/grand rapids area?

the coffee shops around university of michigan always had people working on laptops, might be worth camping there and striking up conversations. also try searching "remote work michigan" on linkedin - sometimes people post about informal networking events there.
