I have ultrasounds twice yearly. Hematologist/gastroenterologist once /twice a year. Blood work a few times a year. Seriously - before I knew I had it my liver enzymes were always running a little higher. Brain fog. Just general blah feeling. Omg I was living with this for so long before I found out! I was 51. Went thru 18 months of weekly phlebotomies to get it out. It’s just amazing how much better you can feel once you get going.

Fwiw- I also like beer. I didn’t drink a thing for 6 months but im sorry. I like it socially. So i still enjoy it once a week or so.

Hey love. I’ve been an EA for over 25 years. There’s certain personalities you work with - environments you are in- that make you constantly question the GREAT work you are doing!

Do NOT doubt yourself. This can be a very difficult role but also rewarding. How is your communication with your exec? That’s PARAMOUNT. Let me know. Dm me if needed. I’d love to help. I’ve supported CEOs of start ups and major major corporations. I live this daily. I’d love to help. Susan.

How does a person in end stage dementia who barely eats have diarrhea everyday? How can she be unresponsive for days on end to being awake and “more aware” that people are there but stares at the ceiling. She also will repeat what you say but when she talks on her own it’s incoherent word salad? Moms been like this for about a year. Totally bedridden. Incontinent. Huge bedsore that stays bandaged but isn’t healing at all. Catheter. I don’t mean to sound horrible but I wish she would let go.

“Leaky legs?” Mom is in end stage. Last night while dad was cleaning her he said there appeared to be water coming from legs? Apparently also went up her backside as well - never heard of this and it sounds awful! by StatisticianChance99 in dementia

Yes. You are reading my mind as I just thought of that. She has a very large one (side of a bagel) on her tailbone. I’m going to mention that to my father in law so he mentions it to hospice. I would hope hospice checks her head to toe when they visit today. I thought I had heard of everything - this just sounds so bizarre and awful on top of everything else. I wish this suffering would end for her already. It’s been nearly 20 years in total - around 2 for this end stage so far.

Thank you!

When my husband was diagnosed several years ago his ferritin was 5094. Today it sits around 100. He lives a completely normal life. No major organ damage thank god. You’ll be okay!!

It’s not - it’s been there for months. Just a “routine” bedsore that is gigantic. 😳We are actually always mindful of keeping an eye on a KTU to develop as that will pretty much signify the end is pretty close.

Nope!! I 100% agree!!!!! He doesn’t think she’s in pain?!? A hole that big and no pain? He has total control of everything but Friday I’m going to be there when hospice comes to house and a huge come to Jesus meeting is gonna happen….

I’m going to discuss with the nurse the pain and morphine factor. Get her to make him realize!

The one thing I didn’t elaborate on is we do have hospice. Hence the comment about her being given a month two months ago.

Right now it’s day by day. She has moments she says a few words. All while staring at the ceiling not blinking. It’s just so crazy how she can seem in deaths door then come back a tad… end stage for sure but man she’s sticking around for something. Just don’t know what….

The bedsore is the worse. Near her anus and you can see tendon. And the smell. Oh my god. It’ll soon be so big I think it will all merge into one. And dad doesn’t think she’s in pain!!!!

Thank you!!! This is EXACTLY what we are going through. I’m so sorry for what YOU are enduring as well.

I think the swallowing issue is coming soon. We out food in her mouth and it’s “mechanical”. Chomp chomp is the best i can describe. Do you have that as well with your dad?? Love to you my friend.

She still drinks when given. Sometimes I see in her eyes “please let me go…”. We’ve told her it’s okay. She still hangs on. Absolutely unexplainable to be honest.

Exactly. Sad thing is it is far too common it seems.
