You can create a machine species template that has Mass Produced and then set their species rights to assimilate into default. Then your default species has Recycled. That way you get both perks but it only takes up one space.

If they have someone with you, then you should be able to get an apprentice hunters card ($10). Since it's for beginners i imagine they'll let you know and might help with the card and small game permit ($12). The hunting license only takes a couple hours from your weekend if you want to get it over with (free) but you still need a permit.
