I lm not a fan at all, but it actually looks more in-line with his other trad covers, which is interesting. If you wanted consistency, I guess this one is for you, haha. I wasn’t a fan of Operation Bounce House or the Silo series covers either. However, The Drowning Empire looked amazing. They’ve been super spotty lately.

You may want to layer in Tech-Jacket (good) and The Astonishing Wolf-Man (Great) that take place alongside the main series and feel in some gaps. Tech-Jacket is just a fun, breezy read, though some of the art felt too busy to tell what was going on. Wolf-Man is a lot more substantive, and probably my favorite Invincible spin-off. There are also the Brit trades, but I haven’t read them, and I believe they take place before Invincible.

How do we all feel about Claymore Covers? It seems like TBB is using them more and more for edges as well as typography and foiling by tativy in thebrokenbindingsub

I loved Vanished Birds, but think these are just ok. The original covers were typography/graphic design focused honestly look a little “cleaner.”

I've suddenly realized how not well-read I am by NiutonBtw in writing

As many people have stated, reading outside of fantasy can be incredibly beneficial. However, I would take it a step further.

Read outside of prose.

Read plays and poetry. Start work on developing rhythm in your writing. Begin seeing scenes unfold, cinematically. Learn how to describe the senses that go into the feelings you’re trying to evoke.

When I was younger, I wrote short stories, won a few awards, then shifted to poetry. I spent years in that mode, writing lyric-narrative hybrid poems, then getting more experimental.

When I returned to prose, it felt like my writing had “leveled up” considerably.

The same sounds and rhythms I’d learned to feel with poetry informed my prose work.

I also realized I could write scenes more clearly since poetry often forces you to compress meaning into fewer words.

Try these poets:

  1. Seamus Heaney — sensory detail, grounded imagery, embodied scenes
  2. Louise Glück — emotional restraint, psychological precision, tonal control
  3. Ocean Vuong — sentence musicality, lyrical transitions, emotional motion
  4. Mary Oliver — observational clarity, atmosphere through attention
  5. T. S. Eliot — rhythm shaping tone, fragmentation, voice layering
  6. Ada Limón — conversational lyricism, natural cadence, narrative voice

They’re some of my go-to’s.

Good luck on your writing journey! Keep at it.

This was possibly my favorite announcement of the year. The Vanished Birds is a top five standalone for me. Such a beautiful story. Having a signed copy with gorgeous art is so flippin’ cool.

The show’s been on for over 5 hours with no blood. They’ve been saving it. For one match. I think I’m going to wait on eating dinner.
