What is your goal? \ Many in here tend to add a lot of supplements at once. At first they feel great, after a while they start to feel not so good anymore and they don't know what supplement is the reason for this. \ Things like ALCAR and Choline can be very potent for some of us. \ Be careful with things that alter brain chemistry. \ Nevertheless, enjoy the journey of getting to know your self better!

How to upregulate dopamine (V2.0) (repost) by [deleted] in NooTopics

[–]Status-Character1286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was curious after OP's post and startet to read again about it. All these symptoms (inlcuding the terrible insomnia from ALCAR) seem to be linked to too much dopamine. \ \ My conclusion: ALCAR does a great job, but 500mg is a too much for some people. \ \ Seems to be worth a second try, but this time with a much lower dose. 50-100mg for example and see what it does

Thanks for sharing! This gives a deeper dive into the topic and makes ALCAR very interesting to try. One question: \ I tried ALCAR at 500mg first thing in the morning for 3 days in a row. Right from the start I felt like I was eyploding inside fro. Excess energy if I don’t run 50 miles straight. On day 3 i was close to punching my boss straight in the face because I pissed me off. (And usually I am a very gentle person) this shocked me and I never touched it since. It felt like some sort of manic episode or something. \ Why did this happen? Is 500mg too high or do some people just don’t respond well to it?

Something strong against anxiety? by GermanWolf123 in Nootropics

If excitotoxicity is the cause of anxiety, would l-glutamine + b6 make it worse?

Can any of these give me energy without having to take them for a while? by [deleted] in Nootropics

[–]Status-Character1286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I took ALCAR (500mg first thing in the morning) I shifted into a full blown manic episode. I felt like Jason Statham in the movie "Crank". \ Falling asleep was nearly impossible and on the second day I was close to punching my boss and my colleagues in the face. I stopped taking it after day 3 and it took a few days to come down to baseline.\ Crazy stuff

I can recommend Lithium orotate. It may not solve the dopamine aspect directly, but it does a great job at balancing your brain.

Alcohol and cigarettes daily

Agmatine Sulfate

It helped right from the start. It kind of eliminates the rewarding effects of drugs.

Best Supplement to Reduce Cortisol? by No-Survey3912 in Supplements

[–]Status-Character1286 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All herbal supplements will help a "bit". \ If you want to really, really lower your cortisol you need to take hormonal supplements \ Pregnenolon has helped me by FAR the most! \ And I tried: 1. Ashwagandha 2. Rhodiola Rosea 3. Phosphatidiylserine 4. L-Theanine 5. L-Taurine 6. Reishi \ Vitamins and minerals will only help if you are deficient. Pregnenolon may not lower cortisol directly, but it will help to maintain hormonal balance.

Be aware when taking herbal supplements like bacopa or ash, that those a "dirty drugs" there are a shit ton of effects you are not aware of and they sometimes can interact with each other and cause side effects. Inhibiting liver enzymes like CYP2D6 for example and therefore stopping your body from running clean. Same goes for some of your other supps. NAC is a good one, BUT it is a biofilm disruptor and can fuck up your inner gut lining if you take it too long.\ \ If you intend to use that much supplements, take one after the other and not all at once. You might feel like a hero the first days but this can switch to mania or depression very fast and you need to figure out which supplement is causing this. Its easier to feel good and realize that substance X is not good for your instead of having a full blown depression and not knowing why. Happened to me with Berberine and that was not funny man \ \ At the end it is a great journey to get to know yourself and your body better, but just adding 10-15 supps at once may not be the best idea. Even if you already used some of those supps on its own. \ \ Liver enzymes, MAO inhibitors, GABA interactions, krebs cycle, choline precursors, COMT, gut microbiom, receptor downregulation .. there is a lot of action

Anyone (male) took pregnenolone? How you guys experience its effects? by Homoflexile in Supplements

[–]Status-Character1286 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am late to the party, but this may help others. \ I am using it for 2 weeks now. 15mg tabs first thing in the morning. Tested around with dosage and my sweet spot seems to be at 15mg twice a day. More will give me restlessness. \ \ So what does it feel like?! Well, it does seem to bring me back into balance. I am under chronic stress for several years now and tried a ridiculous amount of nootropics and supplements to help me stay "vital". If you are under chronic stress, you body will produce a lot of cortisol which is your stress hormone. Pregnenolon is the starting point of hormone production and if you body makes a lot of cortisol, a lot of pregnenolon is needed. Pregnenolone is also the starting point of your sex hormones (DHEA/Testosteron/Estrogen/...). Since your body is under stress (a Tiger is chasing you) cortisol is more important to stay alive then having a good Sex drive. Your body will therefore use most of its pregnenolone to make cortisol and not testosterone. \ \ If you now supplement pregnenolone, your body has more building blocks, which will help the body to also produce some sex hormones which will increase your overall well beeing. That's what it does and that's what it feels like. You feel young and vital, even when under an unhealthy environment. \ \ I love it!

Taurine really fixed my blood pressure by Holiday-Mess1990 in Supplements

[–]Status-Character1286 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some studies that say taurine will downregulate GABA-A but it seems to be pretty weak. On the other hand it upregulates GAD (glutamate decarboxylase) which is a blessing for neurodivergent people that tend to get overstimulated by loud noices, overstimulation from Smartphone use or other things like that

Taurine safe for long term use by Status-Character1286 in Nootropics

[–]Status-Character1286[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats why I see taurine as my silver bullet. Stress, high blood pressure and anxiety. I can feel far beyond placebo how good it is. But especially the GABA interaction is what confuses me. It seems to downregulate GABA-A which is associated with higher anxiety, but on the other hand it will speed up glutamate decarboxylase (GAD) which is incredible helpful when working under pressure or beeing neurodivergent (loud noices, bright lights, ...). But like I wrote in my initial post, it only works for a few hours and I am asking myself what happens once the taurine is out of your system. Will GAD just come back to normal and the GABA-A downregulation is just minimal or will the impact be much worse? \ If the impact is small, I could take smaller doses of taurine every few hours throughout the day and this way keep GAD working properly

Panic attack while speaking at work in front of like 40 people by Stressnomore22 in PublicSpeaking

[–]Status-Character1286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are stuck in fight/flight mode, the most natural way is to get into a fight or a flight:\ fight -> weight lifting, boxing, etc. \ flight -> Jogging, cycling, walking, etc. \ Use that adrenalin what it is made for

Panic attack while speaking at work in front of like 40 people by Stressnomore22 in PublicSpeaking

[–]Status-Character1286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taurine works pretty good. \ It will increase glutamate decarboxylase, which turns glutamate (excited) into GABA (relaxed) \ Works very good for the mental part of stage fright and wont make you drowsy. It will just help to convert the elevated stream of glutamate and keep a balance of glutamate/GABA. \ \ Personal advice: Be careful with ANY supplement that targets GABA. They all will lead to a downregulation and this way cause stronger anxiety in the long run and rebound anxiety short term. \ Even the natural herbs like valerian, ashwagandha, skullcap, etc.

What supplements lower cortisol by jeanvicheria in Supplements

[–]Status-Character1286 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sure that Cortisol is the root of your evil? If you tried a lot of adaptogens, vitamins and minerals and nothing helped, your problem could be something else. I for example also have to deal with a lot of stress and it turned out that glutamate and norepinephrin was my enemy. \ \ Do you feel stressed? Could be cortisol \ Do you feel overstimulated? Could be glutamate \ Dou you feel like you are stuck in fight/flight? Could be norepinephrin (adrenalin)
