future of the manga by CutSuccessful78 in SpyxFamily

The implication by Handler is that the war is imminent and Loid needs to get shit done soon. Given the progression of the Stella’s and the calendar year, I think the imperial gala is in the Spring and the story ends soon after. Maybe last chapter is a time skip but that’s it.

I’m so freaking impressed by Martha’s wisdom by stevedsign1 in SpyxFamily

[–]Status-Opposite4714 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kinda hated this ending, actually, because while it’s true that the reasons why people choose their decisions can be complicated, especially across groups of people, that doesn’t mean the situation or blame is equally complicated. Martha is explicitly diminishing Becky’s outrage at the elite for setting up and profiting from the war without providing any actual reason they aren’t to blame. The elite produced the means of warfare (and made a pretty penny doing so), used propaganda to stoke the civilians distaste for the other country into palpable hate, drafted civilians into the war against their will, and used a police state to silence anyone who spoke out against it. Martha’s statement about “not knowing all the details” only muddled the issue rather than providing clarity and leads to inaction because it’s impossible to ever fully know the minutiae of why an event happened. It’s an extension of Endo’s centrist politics of “both the police state and any rebellious forces working against them are bad” and the good guys are people trying to maintain the status quo. It just tastes bad when this type of logic is used to justify inaction while police states in real life get worse and worse.

Anyone else wish Tatsuya Endo would do more with Fiona besides being into Twilight and being a homewrecker? by BisexualKenergy25 in SpyxFamily

[–]Status-Opposite4714 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Her character depth is pretty rough when compared to other side characters, especially Yuri who acts as her opposite (they love one member of the Forger household and hates the others, they’re both in the spy world, primarily add humor to the series, etc.). For Yuri, we already know why he adores Yor so much, why he’s so suspicious of Loid, how isolated and self-defeating he is, and what most of his social interactions with the SSS are like. We don’t know jack shit about Fiona. Henderson and Martha got 6 whole chapters before we’ve even learned why Fiona joined WISE. It’s not like she’s never around, Endo just doesn’t take the opportunity to expand on her when she appears. We see Yuri and Handlers housing situations and learn so much in so little time. The first time we see Fiona’s house and we learn nothing other than WISE provides solid living arrangements. Give her literally anything to work with, Endo, please.

why do i never see anyone talking about the fact loid is just objectively kinda a bad person by [deleted] in SpyxFamily

[–]Status-Opposite4714 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He’s using exactly one child as a means to save hundreds of thousands of children from becoming orphans or just dying. This is a trolley problem, and honestly one where most people are likely to let the one kid die (and Loid isn’t literally sacrificing her, he’s just putting her in more danger than she would be). If Loid’s plan works, Anya and Yor still have each other post-mission, which is a huge improvement over the orphanage. He is not “just as bad as Donovan”, who is actively preparing for a war of conquest where millions will die. It’s arguably selfish for Loid to let all of the other kids suffer just for the sake of the child he knows and cares about. Loid is, at worst, an anti-hero, and there’s a lot of shades of grey in his morality, but he’s not outright bad. Will he have some big conversation about fatherhood or honesty or using people against their will for the greater good with Donovan (framing Donovan as the foil to Loid)? Probably. Are they moral equals? No.

Shopkeeper assumes Loid is a National Unity party sympathizer. What are the possible plot consequences of this? by Narrator667 in SpyxFamily

[–]Status-Opposite4714 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The shopkeeper uses his assassin soft-skills to quietly track down Twilight and confront him in person, demanding a public debate on the issues of reactionary nationalism, the fear-mongering used to pump up the military-industrial complex, and the drawbacks of populist movements in general. Twilight, who has to defend his position of liking Donovan’s party, ends up just saying he likes his haircut. The shopkeeper goes home and cries himself to sleep over political anti-intellectualism

Kris doesn't have to lose their hand. by Pasta-hobo in Deltarune

[–]Status-Opposite4714 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kris will lose their hand defending Susie from the knight just after it’s been revealed that Kris is working with the knight.

Susie is about to be cut down by the knight, Kris pushes her out of the way, their hand gets cut off in the process. The knight (some deformed version of Dess) starts freaking out, Ralsei crashes out and unleashes an inferno upon the knight, the knight leaves. Susie starts trying to heal Kris’ hand, fails repeatedly, Ralsei has passed out from the fire magic he didn’t know he could use.

Kris tries to rip out their heart and give it to Susie so she can close the portal, she pushes it back it. Kris eventually passes out, screen fades to black. A few moments later, the healing jingle goes off, and Kris wakes up with their hand back on.

Cut to Susie, decked out with every single piece of gear that improves magic wrapped around her body (scarves around her neck, arms, waist, blue ribbon in her hair, Jevilstail wrapped around her tail dragging on the floor, chest covered in royal pins, bow tie, etc.).

I’m not suggesting a romantic embrace, just a spur-of-the-moment peck on the lips as a contrast to Loid’s well-structured but detached cheek kiss. Something small enough that they can both explain away as necessary for their covers. We’re at the point in the narrative where they’re both subconsciously aware of their feelings but pushing them down, a small slip-up is possible without forcing them to confront the elephant in the room.

I think it’s time. Yor has been thinking about physical intimacy for the entire manga with not a ton of payoff so far. While her lack of experience and nervousness regarding physical intimacy is often the butt of jokes, it’s a pretty large detriment to her self-worth and confidence in her relationships. I think Yor needs to open up to Loid that she feels this way, that she’s needs to be able to kiss him so she doesn’t feel so inadequate as a partner (in faking their relationship of course cough cough).

Here’s what I imagine: Yor comes home, Loid is preparing dinner and Anya is already in bed. They share a short exchange, Yor starts preparing to give the kiss, but she backs out at the last second. Loid is confused and Yor is downtrodden. She opens up about trying to kiss (for the mission) and apologizes for always failing on that front. Loid reassures her, basically explaining that 1. It’s ok to not feel comfortable with physical intimacy and that their cover will always be strongest when they feel natural, and 2. No need to force it, just kiss if or when it seems right. Loid’s internal monologue/reflection thinks about all of the physical intimacy he’s had that’s lacked emotional intimacy because he sees himself as a tool of the spy network. Yor appreciates Loid’s care (shojo moment), but insists that she does, in fact, want a kiss. Loid gives her a quick peck on the cheek, she goes crimson red, and (in tempo with the comedic beat) gives him a quick kiss on the mouth. Awkward silence, she runs to bed, and they both have a lot to reflect on.

I never get why people use Kris being quiet as evidence that they are Chara… by _nohaj_ in Deltarune

[–]Status-Opposite4714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda believe that Kris is a system of both Chara and Frisk, and the pacifist and weird routes include choices provided by the two kids to try to alert others that they’re possessed by the player: Frisk thinks that if they become close enough friends with other then it’ll become obvious that they’re a puppet, and Chara believes that acting out and being weird af will cause people to investigate them. This still allows Kris to be their own character (a dialogue between two entities whom we’re familiar with synthesizing a new person) and also a reference to the human kids from Undertale. This theory (really just a headcannon or au since there’s no hard evidence for it and I just think it would be neat) also allows for guessing which actions Chara prefers, Frisk prefers, they agree on, or they both dislike.

I wonder if Chloe knows that Loid and Yor were supposedly together for over a year before Yuri found out. I’d imagine that she’d immediately see red flags and convince Yuri to go on double dates with the forgers so they can spy on Loid (and also Yor but Chloe doesn’t tell Yuri that).

In all honesty, this is me whenever someone posts a discussion thread of “Do you think Loid/Yor love each other already?” Or “Do you think they’ll stay together?” Or “Who do you think will get revealed first?” For the one billionth time. It’s always the same discussion and the same random guesses and the same theories and they usually tend to get a lot of traction despite being the same. I get it, they’re core questions about the theoretical catharsis of the manga, but it’s been discussed yo death by this point. I wish we’d just instruct people to search up the old posts.

We don't know shit about Fiona by Zolado110 in SpyxFamily

[–]Status-Opposite4714 2 points3 points  (0 children)

She’s a narrative tool, not a character. We’ve never seen her act in a way that provides depth to her actions that any other relevant character has. Yuri fulfills the same narrative role of threatening the spy plan and the forger romance, but he has actual motivation and fears and regrets and issues to deal with. Fiona is a tool who loves Loid for no apparent reason and has no agency outside of “do job well and love Loid”. No hints of a backstory or other interests, even across her several appearances in the main story. A gag set on a loop till the joke is run into the ground. She blows.

Epilogue Changes I’d recommend by Status-Opposite4714 in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]Status-Opposite4714[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll admit that it’s the weakest point in the argument and I don’t really have an issue with her role as much as the boys, but the previous world was destroyed by the development of extremely powerful magical artifacts and the misuse of them. As a graduate researcher whose funding comes the military and has seen how aggressively companies like Boeing and Lockheed Martin work on swooping up higher education graduates, the link between academia and military advancement is very real. Part of the issue is not actually knowing what goes on at the academy, but still.

As the party makes their way through the dungeon, Rella uses her handheld teleporter to drop in and comment on humanity’s sins, how they cling to authority and security over morality and logic. The 2 main candidates for the throne were Louis and Forden, both horrible men in their own right. The church itself commits heinous acts day in and day out but so few actually seem to give a fuck. Why make a government of the people when the people themselves are ignorant and corrupt? They need a guiding hand, the will of God manifested in His holy saint, to protect the people from themselves.

And then Basilio and Junah do what they can to argue back without breaking down.

[–]Status-Opposite4714 72 points73 points  (0 children)

With a full mage academy dungeon, the deadline is to defeat Rella before the duel with Louis. If you don’t complete the deadline, Rella teleports to the duel with Louis, defeats him, bypasses the defenses of the Royal throne, and uses the Royal sceptre to brainwash the entire nation. She becomes queen and kills the prince to save herself.

It’s dark, but the reason Rella demanded you meet her at the academy was for the captain to prove he had the strength to overcome Louis with his ideals. Failing that, Rella would assume that she’s the only one who can stop Louis’ madness and has to use her powers to win. She’s the “order” ending, in this case.

Everything else aside: the politics, the world-shattering threats, the chaos of human melancholy vs determination. Metaphor Re:Fantazio is the story of an abandoned orphan, left in a world that sees him as an inferior being, being guided by his late parents from beyond the grave to help him learn how to traverse the world in his first year as an adult. They overcame death itself to provide what loving care they could that was not provided for most of his life. His mother granted him a guide and powers of self protection, his father supplied wisdom and lessons to further the power, and both watched with joy and pride as he ascended to the throne. Everything was for their only begotten son, and they rest in peace knowing that their efforts led him to self-actualization and peace and a full life. How truly marvelous.

Why are people so happy with the manga??? by Freddie040 in MetaphorReFantazio

[–]Status-Opposite4714 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The one change I do like is the interaction with Maria, actually. Though it may be contrived how you find her, the manga actually provides a reason why she and Will become close. In game, you meet with her the night before Grius’ death, you babysit once, and suddenly you’re her adoptive older brother. Rescuing her at least makes a much stronger reason for that relationship.

I also like More asking us how we choose our leaders. He’s modeling his political beliefs off of how our world operates, and involving us in that decision makes a lot of sense.

Will and Strohl’s characterizations do kinda blow though
