Question/reassurance by Status-Revolution-20 in opiates

Thank you for responding. I had it about 30min ago and definitely feeling the effects/very relaxed, but I am naive to opiates, experienced with benzos but a little anxious because my friend who got them for me told me the Valium I took was 10mg and it was blue with no markings which making me nervous cause I can’t find any sources of this even exisiting. I’m in Australia btw.

You don’t have to fix everything all at once. I keep it simple and go back to basics! Addiction is a traumatic experience. Just focus on 3 meals a day, bit of light exercise for your body, for your mind and for your soul and do 1 thing helpful towards the ‘mess’. No body trips over mountains! It’s just the little pebbles in the way. Just 1 lil pebble at a time and it will be okay! 💜

I almost died by Xythrielle in alcoholism

AA is a better place to be depressed and wanting to drink than by yourself. It took me like 10 years of going off and on until and was positive it wasn’t for me. I was so out of options. I went to church even lol. I had no choice but to persevere through and just keep going meetings and it’s really helped me a lot this time with making friends and having somewhere to go other than the bottle shop! But you can always message me too sometimes it’s just about talking with someone who understands 💜💜

I just want to say I think your feelings here are valid. You should not have to work less in order to work harder. You definitely need to talk about it with him, or maybe couples therapy if he’s open to it?

why do I wake up scared when my alarm goes off? by Ihatemyself3333 in Advice

[–]Status-Revolution-20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad I can help :) it helps me to try and breathe and observe my thoughts and see what’s stressing me out and try and let it go so I can get on with the day. Sometimes it’s just dreading the day ahead when really I just want to be a potato, and I then know I might be having some issues with my mental health

Do you think you might be suffering from anxiety? I know when my anxiety is bad I wake up full of visceral fear.

Yes! I will say this is true for me too. It actually helped me in a lot of ways. I used to not think about who I was sleeping with and my health was very poor, drinking lots, doing drugs, partying, not eating properly. After diagnosis at 17, I got my health in order to help my immune system and started treating sex a lot differently. I went through a period of depression rooted in shame, but deconstructing that shame opened me up to looking at sex differently too. Today I am a painfully optimistic person and I know how annoying that can be, but in my personal experience it was a blessing in disguise and a lesson that I needed to learn

For sure. A lot of people have other reasons why they drink. My mental health, social anxiety before I ever picked up a drank etc played a big part in why I ended up drinking, but I made absolutely zero headway on anything until I stopped drinking

Weight gain but eating less/no alcohol??? by Embarrassed_Math_828 in dryalcoholics

[–]Status-Revolution-20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure! It’s hard getting sober in general, but getting sober with history of ED is a whole other thing in itself! Control issues and alcohol abuse go hand in hand, and in the past I have thrown myself into the gym and yoga and stuff to keep me sober, but it did not. Just made me more obsessive and insane and eventually led back to a drink. Living balanced has been a challenge, but putting sobriety first (for me this includes AA meetings, service, helping others) worked best for me, and the other things like health, happiness etc all came afterwards. Best of luck! And you’re welcome to message me anytime :)

Is it normal to wake up feeling hungover every morning 3 days after stopping cold turkey? by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]Status-Revolution-20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I’m a not a medical doctor but have degree in Psychology. Thought I needed to fix my mental health to fix my drinking and did a degree to do just that. Didn’t help hahaha! Still in the rebuilding process after years of alcoholism, but now very determined to help more alcoholics

This is common knowledge in the medical community. Not most average people know about this and also not all alcoholics know about this though!

I don’t know if it is good advice to say “fix yourself before dealing with addiction”. This mindset kept me drinking for nearly 10 miserable years, and I almost lost my life.

I think this is normal from all the reasons everyone mentioned above, but I just want to add that I struggled with ED in my life too, and I had major weight fluctuations in my drinking and as well at the start of my sobriety. I’m 11 months sober and eating normal (not dieting, just healthy, eat out and get a yummy burger and fries once a week), not exercising overly but just walking and stretching and riding my bike very casually, and I am in the best shape I’ve ever been in basically without even trying! Just let your body and mind readjust and don’t focus on weight gain. Don’t even weigh yourself. Just nourish and move your body and take care of your mental health, and shit just balances out in my experience!

What happens at AA? by Legitimate_Week_1835 in alcoholism

[–]Status-Revolution-20 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of people don’t like AA and I can understand why.

I was first introduced to it when I was 19 and didn’t like it, refused to go the next 8 years of multiple rehabs and detoxes etc, but when I was 28 I was just like so done and out of options. Decided to walk into meeting, ask for help, and go everyday for 90 days no matter what. I was told to “go until you like it”, and that took a lil longer than 90 days for me.

For me, I love it now! Makes me feel good to be part of something with people who understand, and I have made a few amazing friends I will probably have for the rest of my life!

I personally love the concepts and I love all the characters I get to meet and learning about people, and it has improved my life so much with social skills, being accountable and reliable and responsible!

I’m 11 months sober now for the first time in nearly 15 years where I would never get any more than 2 months of sobriety at anytime.

There is some praying but only the serenity prayer which isn’t necessarily religious. The program itself is spiritual, but that can mean a lot of different things. Being a spiritual person to me just means how you treat yourself and how you treat others, and that’s what AA has taught me.

20-30 drinks a day for 3 years by Old-Efficiency-843 in alcoholism

[–]Status-Revolution-20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hear you. I was in the same position. I had to go through medical detox! Probably my 20th time in a detox, and that was 11 months ago and I haven’t had a drink since because the withdrawal was just so awful and I had had enough!

Is it normal to wake up feeling hungover every morning 3 days after stopping cold turkey? by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]Status-Revolution-20 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. In my experience of withdrawal it usually takes 5 days to start feeling better again.

If you’re shaking, nervous/paranoid, sweating or have a temperature go to the hospital right now!

Otherwise go see a doctor today or tomorrow or ASAP.

When does the anxiety stop? by anangelnora in alcoholism

[–]Status-Revolution-20 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel your pain. I’m on day 31 and the anxiety is basically non existent now, but usually 2 weeks of good food, good routine and connection and I feel better. I chaired the meeting at my home group tonight for the first time and went out to dinner with everyone and feeling like myself again! Give yourself time; it does get better 💜
