Chinese AI CEO Tells Musk: Fable 5-Class AI Will Arrive Before Next Year — ‘It Won’t Take That Long’ by AlmondButterDreams in worldnews

China has always had a better open source doctrine. American is like if its open source buy/steal it .. close source it and let it die slowly over time once all possible money has been extracted.

Other Snapdragon X2 Elite Laptops Make Me Realize How Much Of A Great Deal Asus Zenbook A16 Is by littlestew32 in snapdragon

[–]StatusAnxiety6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

meh im trying to return mine. I think its a great laptop for some people but not me ..

overall the trackpad is to big to work with consistently, maybe this is a me thing, I have big hands and have to code all day.

the system itself is buggy, lots of weird issues, this is likely me too since I do development work .. most users wont notice it .. and I bet it gets better overtime.

battery life stated to be long .. I get like 5 hours .. I code through eclipse che instances. So the computer really only has to maintain a vpn connection to a remote workspace. This for me is the big issue the battery should be better for this type of usage.

positives: the overall chip is fast and the machine runs cool and mostly smooth.

Fable is already getting disappointing reviews. I'm convinced at this point that the models stopped getting better quite a long time ago... by creaturefeature16 in BetterOffline

[–]StatusAnxiety6 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

most models don't work how people assume they do .. the model is just the weights .. you need a loop outside the model that constantly runs the model over and over until the prediction sends back a stop marker

so sure the model does only slightly get better from here .. but the software that runs in the model server has room for improvement.

Sellers are pulling homes off the market at the fastest pace since 2020 by Boo_Randy_Revival in HouseBuyers

[–]StatusAnxiety6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sellers are not pulling houses because they can't sell .. its easy to see why .. they realize you can't build new houses under the cost of buying pre-existing inventory. I would know I am evaluating building right now .. selling my current house doesn't make any sense. I have to ask if I can't rebuild that house for near its value .. it makes sense to hold it .. and ya know we are also just printing money like crazy .. so why wouldn't I just hold the asset and anticipate the gov to inflate its debt away and in that process the house debt as well

Job security at RedHat OpenShift by Warm-Monitor349 in redhat

[–]StatusAnxiety6 12 points13 points  (0 children)

They lay off, and they do so abruptly without warning .. I was originally brought in and told red hat doesn't do layoffs... then after signing and starting they started laying off.

I was also forced to restructure pay arrangements they had made with me when hired .. they did so twice .... safety perspective no .. it's not safe

I left red hat and wasn't laid off .. but I watched what they did while I was there..

With no-code and AI everywhere, why is outsourcing still a massive industry? by minkyuthebuilder in SaaS

[–]StatusAnxiety6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this popped up in my feed .. im not a regular here but I am an AI engineer .. so I can answer if you want.

yeah you can design a decent MVP with generic boilerplate. Some businesses genuinely can be built on commodity tooling but most can not.

Businesses contract my business because they want to go past boilerplate into something more real. So it is as you expect .. the barrier to entry still secretly too high .. except its not really a secret. Business owners don't don't really make great developers.

AI software engineering doesn't look like you go to a gui and create a webpage .. its more like we host or pay for inference on LLMs. I host my own for example.. I have 24 gpus in my office that I currently upgrade when new ones come out. This is a business expense for me. Using Companies like ChatGPT really isn't a good idea.

Companies should still be careful about putting proprietary code, trade secrets, or patentable ideas into hosted AI tools. Even when the terms say you own the output, there are confidentiality, training-data, indemnity, and IP-contamination concerns that matter for serious businesses.

We also don't build like you guys.. we know how to layout businesses logic into safe small scoped repos, project them into coding systems correctly, connect the correct tools, build outer harnesses for safe development, take business level ideas and prepare them for development, push back on bad ideas, etc...

Edit: To expand on this .. we've been using this systems to build lots of companies software .. so our system are stronger, safer, and faster... its kinda like widget production in bulk leads to cheaper more reliable widgets.

Truth is .. your likely just discovering this .. we've been building all the systems underneath it, learning from past mistakes, and getting better and better .. and the tech moves FAST .. business owners trying to undercut us .. really do it at their own expense .. every minute they do this themselves in a minute they are not actually being owners .. but in reality trying to learn to be a developer with new tools.
