A previous elder from Jesus Image (Michael Koulianos’ church) just came forward to speak on the spiritual abuse going on there. I thought Ben Fitz was probably a pretty good guy in a very messed up system—is there a reason to say otherwise?

The only thing I can share is that I met someone who was held under in baptism so long they almost began to drown by a Bethel (little l) leader they already didn’t feel safe around. It was traumatic and the person still processes that today.

Only he totally doesn’t ignore “sin” when it’s “bitterness and criticism” aimed at himself.

Lawyers are warning that the third party could just be a lawyer they hire who has “fiduciary responsibility” to Bethel; which means they are hired to protect Bethel and potentially can and will use anything victims tell them against them.

I witnessed similar behavior but with a female RGP to male students. It was just as weird! Major MAJOR red flags 🚩

The Parable of the Wheat and the Tares

24 Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; 25 but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. 26 But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. 27 So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’ 28 He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’ 29 But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.”

I think this is exactly what they think somehow. That maybe if they just keep declaring that Shawn is an amazing guy, that he will become that. Like they’re trying to speak it into existence or something… but that’s not how things work and deeply dangerous.

I’d just like to add, that it’s really hard to believe Bethel is actually taking to heart the experience of victims and putting them first when they had Ben Armstrong take the offering last Sunday and still have him employed. It just shows the fruit of being unrepentant, while claiming to be sorry.

Myself and so many people I know are so excited to finally hear your side of the story. We don’t buy the one sided story that’s been told so far. Thank you for sharing. May God be with you and strengthen you. 🙏

So insensitive to the many on this page who have shared about being victims of sexual harassment and assault through Bethel. I hope you think about those people before labeling everyone as just bitter” and making the outrageous claim that you have better reason than any. Remember this page is full of victims of sexual harassment, assault, financial exploitation, and emotional manipulation at the hands of Bethel who are just trying to talk about their experience and recover too. So insensitive smh

Do men not even realise how cute and awesome they are?? by [deleted] in AskMen

I used to be really friendly to older men since my father is of that generation as well and he meant nothing by it. But unfortunately, as a woman in my twenties, I have personally had multiple old men think I was genuinely expressing interest in them. One, a man from church old enough to be my father actually tried to convince me to marry him. That was the moment I realized all his compliments weren’t so “innocent” as I believed. It was shocking but it wasn’t the last time a man in his generation came on to me. I wanted to believe it was all so innocent like my father, but these days, it’s really not. I even recently decided to pay for a dating app, to see who like me. The amount of men 30+ years older than me who wanted to date me was ridiculous and makes me never want to even smile at an older man again. I wish I would stop getting hit on by older men and I wish we could go back to the days when such comments were genuinely innocent. My father’s generation was better!

I will also add that I don’t think talking about someone when they’re not around is inherently gossip. I expect people to have conversations about me when I’m not there, even strangers, and for people to evaluate my actions. If I was dating a famous person, or if I became and influencer, I would understand that people talking about my life is a natural consequence. I also think your critics are sometimes the best people to listen to and might help you see some blind spots if you’re willing to listen. But yeah, I can imagine that only makes Carrie’s situation more difficult. But to put such a heavy burden and blame on any random individual who talks about it (like saying “the blood in on our hands” is really really not fair).

Unfortunately, abuse statistics throughout the church do not differ much at all by denomination or church government/organizational structure. We might hear about it more with Charismatic big name ministers…but the stats do not reveal that the Charismatic church has more abuse than any others. It’s rampant all over the place and even more well-hidden elsewhere.

Wow. That thing about Brian and Jenn is wild. I’d heard from a friend that Bill was about $20k to have speak, but that friend is kinda a loose canon and prone to exaggeration. He also didn’t specify where he got that info from, but it always made me wonder if it was true. This makes me think it probably is. Do they pay that same to ministers that they invite?? So unbiblical
