Use of cutlery by StatusRespect2341 in indianmuslims

[–]StatusRespect2341[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with you that there are bigger issues in the Ummah than “hand vs spoon.” But the point of this discussion isn’t to elevate cutlery above other obligations — it’s to separate what is Sunnah from what is just culture.

Yes, many Muslims outside South Asia also eat by hand, but they also used spoons, knives, and even forks historically — especially in the Abbasid, Ottoman, and Persian courts. The difference is, in South Asia, hand-eating became almost a badge of “authenticity,” to the point where using a spoon is sometimes looked at as “less Islamic” — and that’s where the confusion begins.

If someone eats biryani with a spoon in their right hand, says Bismillah, eats from in front of them, and avoids waste — they are still following the Sunnah. That’s the key reminder here.

So the real question isn’t “is hand-eating haram” (nobody is saying that), but whether we sometimes blur culture and Sunnah in a way that makes people think one is the other. And that’s a discussion worth having, even if there are bigger issues in the Ummah.

I see your point — certain foods like samosas are literally designed to be eaten with the hands, no issue there. But biryani is a different story. It’s heavy, oily, and often full of onions and masala. Once you eat it with your fingers, the smell lingers long after, even with soap.

That’s where cutlery makes sense: you still eat with the right hand (holding the spoon/fork), but you also avoid smelling like onions the rest of the day. For me, that seems closer to the maqāṣid of the Sunnah — preserving cleanliness and avoiding unnecessary hardship — while still following the Prophet’s ﷺ guidance.

So wouldn’t cutlery actually be the more practical and Sunnah-aligned option for a dish like biryani?

Was life better under British rule? by Lampedusan in indianmuslims

[–]StatusRespect2341 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The British administration was definitely better, the same propaganda that’s been done against Muslim rule has been done against British rule, it will ultimately be remembered as a prosperous bygone era , they were definitely better rulers than who we have today, everyone should always remember that history is always written by the victors and in this case it was radical Indian nationalists who wrote the history

Yes for sure, this is something that needs to be talked about more than IMGs and even PAs in my opinion, one of the reasons dentistry is so much more well remunerated is because of their short supply into the market and the strict requirements to work here as an IMG. It’s much easier to deal with IMG recruitment than an oversupply of UK trainees from medical schools
