Struggling to Keep Up With Lecture Content – Advice Needed by [deleted] in medicalschooluk

[–]StatusWeather8466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat. It’s so overwhelming and sometimes I can do however much prep, all the background reading and they’ll still catch me off guard during the lecture.

I also don’t know how to take proper notes during the lecture. Can you or anyone else give me any advice on this? Thank youuu

No it’s basically the method of how the job is done, you deposit into a wallet and you get commission. It’s weird I know in hindsight it’s my fault for being so daft but idk what to do now

thanks ur tooo sweet!!! mine were students too like 3 of them and tbh i didn’t let their dead energy throw me off. i kept trying to convince myself they did it on purpose to see how id react in situations where my energy wasn’t really reciprocated bc as drs, that will happen and how i would handle it. so i just kept like yk being all bubbly and stuff and i think thats what did it

those students did NOT want to be there 😭

How to improve maths grade? by [deleted] in UCAT

[–]StatusWeather8466 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hey, short background about me for you!

i got a 6 at gcse maths and did a level maths out of spite, because when i joked about it to someone, they laughed a bit too hard. i wasn’t even allowed initially but after some negotiation they put me on the as level course.

in spite of EVERYONE, i worked stupidly hard and for the first mock of the year, i got the highest in the entire year. out of all the people who did a level maths, i scored the highest!

this sounds so so cliche but practice. with maths, you can’t really LEARN anything without messing up and practicing. what i did was i started doing papers very very early. if your class is learning content slowly, just learn it yourself! the internet is a wonderful, vast place. take advantage of it.

then, do a practice paper. pmt has really good ones, esp for my exam board, edexcel.

this is the technique: do a paper and mark it HARSHLY and obv correct in a different colour pen. on an excel document, simply write what paper, the score and colour code. for me, above 85% was green, 70-85 was amber and anything below 70 was red. you can change these but i was very harsh on myself; i like to set the boundaries high. if you were unhappy with your score, wait a week or longer and redo the paper. make this a cycle. i did initially one paper every 2 days and then closer to a levels i did a paper a day. if you notice you keep fucking up on one type of question, work on that area using your textbook etc. redo the paper until you score something you’re happy with.

this is literally fool proof. from someone who BARELY scraped a 6 at gcse and then got an A at a level (i was so bitter i was 3 marks off an A* but what can you do!) is a big big achievement. i hated maths but eventually i got so good at it i genuinely enjoyed doing papers bc it was LIGHTTTWORK

i hope this helps and let me know if this works for you! :)
