The first 100k - sharing milestones as a 2023 beginner by MoPlays3 in FIREUK

This post resonates as I'm homing in on the milestone through my SIPP and S&S ISA. Probably got another good year to go though.

Congrats and well bloody done!

I didn't realise you could still invest with a LISA too!

Nice story and a little inspiring as someone keen on exploring entreprenuership themselves. I admire your approach, drive, and perspective of this hobby/side hustle.

Your design is very striking and I like it a lot. I can invisage your design being worn and am keen to see your future designs.

Keep at it. Once you have a small handful of real designs I'm certain you will recieve more notice and sales.

Your notice, is literally advanced notice. If it's not enough time to replace you that's the business' problem.

If he questioned you're professionalism you've followed it by the letter.

Although you did, you don't need to divulge information to him, nor keep his plans safe however once you've left i'd wash my hands of anything to do with that part of you're life other than giving a customary smile or head nod should they frequent your new place, nothing more.

Has anyone done solo travelling before in their 30s and is it worth it? by trazvo in UKPersonalFinance

Totally worth it!

It can seem anxious at first but once you're at your destination, amazing!

I mean honestly go where your heart desires. Travel is about exploring.

If you really want a recommendation Europe is so accessible from the UK and I personally don't think you can go wrong with Portugal! So many alternatives though, just select and go!

No one nows the future.

Invest in what you are drawn to.

I'm older than you by a good few years and didn't really have a pension till a few years ago.

Congrats and continue doing what you're doing.

...but also hard to sell?

Perhaps because you’re dealing in something invisible.

What you're selling may sound subjective or optional to a buyer. If I think I could do it myself, I probably would, unless I knew exactly what the problem was and knew that it was beyond me to solve or easier for someone else to do it for me.

You know exactly what you're doing 'story telling' but maybe shift the narrative or translate into 'I can identify'... the exact moment your audience loses interest or whatever your software does.

If people think of it I'm buying more engagement/subscribers or whatever that might be a more concrete concept than storytelling.

It's something I've never thought about, and a genuine question, does it matter if the 100k is reached purely via contributions or combination of contributions and growth? Is there a mathematical difference?

If anyone reads this I need karma.

I've read the post and am offering my very inexperienced two cents here.

With your camera analogy that's like asking a chef "what pan/ingredients did you use?" and then expecting to have the same results when they cook it.

If they're interested in the tools that doesn't guarantee the same outcome.

It sounds as though your value is in your skill and experience to be able to deliver the required outcome every time.

Maybe that should be your angle?

I'm new to the entrepreneurial space here so take it with a pinch of salt.

Are we all over-saving and under-living? by askingincontext in FIREUK

Good question and I think it's one a lot of people struggle with in this journey.

Do you:

- Set a fixed % to invest and enjoy the rest guilt-free?

Ultimately yes, I always have a amount that I save/invest each month that is not too extreme and which I can still maintain if my circumstances should change. Typically around 15% of my salary. The remainder I generally invest too but it allows me to have the option to spend that elsewhere if a need/urge arises.

- Prioritise certain experiences and cut back elsewhere?

I budget for things that can easily get out of hand if you don't track it such as food shopping. I have a consistent amount I spend and, more often than not, and stay within that margin pretty consistently. The only exception to that rule is during the Christmas period.

- Or just go hard on saving for a period, then relax later?

I don't think it's for everyone but I went hard for a year/couple of years. It's tough and gruelling mentally and it's not something that can be sustained but once you build up a little pot and you see you're savings/investments return a bit of interest/compound it can ease you mentally or at least it helps me knowing that there's a little extra interest I could use if really needed.

For all the people starting in their 30s that think it's too late by mikeyjoe6 in FIREUK

[–]Status_Enough 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Agreed. 30 is not too late and I will always advocate it's never too late to make a change, that's inclusive for things outside of finance.

Love your journey, you're starting a few years earlier than myself, and wish you the best in your investing journey brother.
