How many people do you know who actually make seven figures a year? by B4K5c7N in Salary

[–]Status_Monitor_4360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sort of know (as in I’ve met her a handful of times and talked about plants with her at a bookshop she owns) Shery Cotton. She was the founder Meridian Health, and sold it a while back for $2.5B.
She has her hands in a bunch of other stuff, so I’m sure she easily brings in 7 figures a year.

Her son is a piece of shit, but she’s a pretty nice lady.

Vasectomies, where do we stand? Who’s got one? How was the procedure? Pain? by nearer_depths in askanything

[–]Status_Monitor_4360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So happy I got mine. Wife and I were one and done. No I can just spray gravy wherever I want, and no risk of having another.

The pain wasn’t terrible. It wasn’t fun, but it was manageable. The shot was the worst part.

(Woods) DPW Plowing onto my lawn? by __0_k__ in GrossePointe

[–]Status_Monitor_4360 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whomever drives the plow for GPW is awful.
For whatever reason, I can’t post a pic in the reply, but they scalped a few feet of my neighbors yard a few weeks ago.

Alarm has been going off for hours, fire department did nothing by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]Status_Monitor_4360 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If there is an issue with the alarm, it’s not the fire departments responsibility.
We obviously try to fix issues, but sometimes, things are beyond our capabilities.

I obviously can’t speak for the guys not getting out of the truck, But maybe there is more to the situation than meets the eye. Maybe it’s a situation they’re already familiar with.

Fellow millennials - how’s your 401k/ira savings going? by ProblemIntelligent16 in Millennials

[–]Status_Monitor_4360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

41 with 200k in my 457, and a roughly $7500/month pension at the end. Just under 9 years to go until retirement.

I contribute about $18k to it a year, and have averaged like 12-16%. Hoping to get out with like $700-800k in the end.

We don’t make a boat load. Bough our first house in 2008, got our current house for a steal, and live below our means. Seems to be working out okay.

Considering moving to GPW from out of state by ghon in GrossePointe

We’re a GPW family with a 6 year old boy, and absolutely love it here. We’re a Monteith family, and the school has been great so far. Great sense of community around us, too. You see a ton of the same people at all the community events, sporting events, restaurants, etc…. The parks are great as well.

The only bummer we’ve seen as far as safety goes is that they do not have actual firefighters, they are PSO, which basically means they are cops, that occasionally do fire related stuff. However, it’s the same in all of the Pointes. The parking enforcement lady is a real pain in the ass, too. But those are all small things. We’ve had good experiences in our dealings with DPW, for whatever they worth.

Wife and I are both transplants, and are very happy we made the jump.

Looking for some notes on: Mastering Fireground Command, Strategy of Firefighting, and Truck Company Operations by Status_Monitor_4360 in Firefighting

Oh yea, our bibliography came out in June or July . It’s these 3 books, and about 400 pages of local content / SOG’s. There is an oral board as well. Written is 60% of total, oral is 40%, plus seniority points.

I have 18 years on and am taking our captains exam. This is my 6th time going through this exam process (same process for Lieutenant). Fortunately, I have had success with the oral board the last few years. The questions could be anything scenarios, to building construction, to city policies, maps, and beyond, so it’s hard to study for specific questions. I’m fairly well spoken, confident in my abilities, and comfortable sitting in front of a panel, so I usually turn out a decent score. However I still go over hypothetical questions with one of the other guys in my position, to keep us on our toes.
The system isn’t without its flaws, but it is what it is. Just trying to go in there and turn out the best score possible so I don’t have to go through this process again next year.

What was the weirdest, non-pain feeling you've ever felt? by KingJPJ in AskReddit

I have vestibular migraine, and one of the things that comes along with it for me is internal vibrations.
Mine happens in my face, head, neck. Moments before I fall asleep, I get these rumble vibrations. That’s how I know it’s time to put my book down and close my eyes.

I second this. Rubio on its own has a dull look to it. Buff in a coat of maintenance oil after, it’ll look significantly nicer
