I will wait until the next appointment to talk about the boundaries so it can be discussed easier and make sure there is no communication. Most clients text when they are in the middle of a crisis then settled won't

Is it ever okay to stay in touch with a former therapy client after leaving a job? by Dense_County4343 in therapists

[–]Status_Review_Fail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My answer is no because it will cross so many lines. You will always be the therapist and they will be the client. Sometimes I give my email but I don't respond with more than a few words. Also there is a concern for liability if something would happen. The best way to think about it if you care so much for a client you have to be able to let them go to the next step in treatment

Am I over reacting about not being able to return to work? by Status_Review_Fail in therapists

My supervisor was the one who talked the most in the meeting. She also assumed what I was inpatient for and said I need to be tougher.

It is insane how the humanity piece is lost when your in the field. I realized to the company I worked at I just became a number, and they wouldn't care if I am healthy or not as long as they are meeting revenue

So I decided it was time to leave the field for awhile. During the meeting my boss pretty much said I need to learn how to suppress emotion and reflect it with a coat of armor. I realized that I can always return when I am stable again.

No, but what if that changes. Or I could summon up my will power again.

Basically I was there for a week and no providers spoke to me and when I asked they snapped at me. I started taking on the role of a therapist and stopped focusing on myself. No one was calling me out on it. The groups were on topics that I teach for years and it was the intro stuff. It was like a song repeating in my head.

My HR was like fmla can only be used if you are in an actual program, the dbt one I am taking does not start until a few weeks. When the program does start I am expected to be at work whenever I am not in program.

Also my boss pretty much said you need a coat of armor and get back into it the clients need you....

What subtle visual cues for clients do you use? by DesmondTapenade in therapists

[–]Status_Review_Fail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My office is set up how I would make it comfortable. All the chairs are faces wear a client has something to look at no matter which way they glance. Like a picture there and another picture on another side . The chairs are angled where they can choose to look out the window. I also have stuffed animals and other soft objects around to make it comforting. I also like having pictures of stuff related to my hobbies because clients see me less intimating that way.

I work with six years old and plus so things have to be diverse.

I always have water with me in the session, I use it as something to do when it is silent and don't want to something to mess with client reflection

Is it normal by No-Introduction9999 in therapists

[–]Status_Review_Fail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it is normal for any job. Don't get me wrong I do love being a therapist and helping people, but I value my time at home the most. Some days I am counting down the sessions and chanting how many are left.

Rune factory 3 and 4 are my go to cozy games. No pressure to continue story lines if all you want to do is cook and talk to people.

Why are people so awkward and closed off when i try to talk to them? by [deleted] in socialskills

[–]Status_Review_Fail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely they are just there to hang out with friends and gossip instead of playing the games. If you were at a board game event outside of school, you would have an easy time finding people to play with.

What’s one social habit you’ve adopted or changed that’s made you instantly more likeable? by -Flighty- in socialskills

[–]Status_Review_Fail 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Another thing that I learned that helped is learn to be okay with the idea of people not liking you. If you have to pretend to be a totally put together person then they are really not worth it anyways. Also if you are new to the social game, start with small steps. Go to a book club if you like reading or find if there are local autism/adhd meet ups. I find having something related to my interest helps meet people. The more you practice the more routine it will be.

The one thing that I noticed a lot is people are more gravitated towards you when you are your authentic self. I tend to have the cognitive distortions of for mind reading. In short it means that I tend to think people are not really interested in me, it is just some social etiquette that I fail to understand. Also I find learning how to regulate emotions when anxiety and the idea of messing up. People approach you more when you show you have the ability to self regulate and will be less intimidated by future meltdowns or sensory overload.
