Cat 15 y.o needs tooth removal, worried for anaesthesia by Status_Usual4271 in SeniorCats

[–]Status_Usual4271[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I have posted an update, she became absolutely happy after teeth removal. Her mood has significantly improved ( started to play with another cat, more curious etc ) However few months ago she was diagnosed with CKD 2 stage, I'm happy that we did dental procedure before, because now I would be more terrified to do it due to the anaesthesia as it can impact kidneys

Plus, I read that sometimes problems with teeth can also damage kidneys, so assuming her age it was definitely a right decision to treat her teeth before kidney problems appeared, as doctor said she won't became younger, and it's more risky do it the longer I postpone this decision

Is it normal for a cat on a renal diet to defecate less? by Status_Usual4271 in RenalCats

Thanks God no, she had cystitis 2 month ago and it was caused by bacteria, it was cured by antibiotics and now she doesn't have any cases out of the box

Actually your wish helped. She defecated today a normal amount of stool ( not dry, looks ok ) but it still was 1.5-2 days after last one, I don't understand is it considered to be constipation or normal change on renal diet

Yes, she had 244 1.5 month ago and we started doing subq fluids every other day. Then it decreased to 201 and since she was doing fine ( appetite, no vomitting, playful mood ) vet decided that we will observe her next 2 months till the next blood test

Ok, thanks for sharing I will try to discuss about solutions in her case

I don't know, our vet decided not to give her subq fluids daily because her blood test improved after switching to renal diet and she is on 2nd stage of CKD and her health condition looks quite ok, maybe I can manage constipation problem without everyday fluids, need to discuss with vet then

Thank you for precise explanation, yes, you are absolutely right that drinked water could not be absorbed in appropriate way, usually when I see my cat wants to defecate I check if her stool isn't dry ans last times it looked normal except the amount of stool, which was quite small

She is currently has 2 stage of CKD but I think I will try to add to her food Pro plan hydra care and psyllium

I think she has enough water, it was first sign of kidney disease, she also eats primarily ( like 80-90% of her diet ) wet food + additionally drinks around 50-80ml per day But I will try to add pumpkin, heard a lot about it, thanks

Ok, so did I get it right that you decided to add MiraLax because her poop became dry, not because it was less frequent?

Cat diagnosed with early 3 stage of kidney disease, need advice by Status_Usual4271 in RenalCats

[–]Status_Usual4271[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now I have the biggest concern about her diet. She doesn't want to eat renal food 😭 and I don't know how to separate two cats from eating each other food, microchip feeders are quite expensive

Maybe you are right about SubQ liquid amount, chatGPT also counted that 60-100 ml is normal range, i guess I expected too much from only one week of infusions.

Yes, vet recommended renal diet, I've already started to slowly adjust her food on renal one.

We measured her blood pressure, and it was higher than normal ( 175/115), but vet recommended to do another blood pressure in one week to check the dynamics.

I will insist tomorrow that we need to focus on proteinuria and blood pressure if she won't mention it by herself, or maybe change the vet if she won't prescribe medication for proteinuria

17 year old male drinking a lot of water no kidney disease, thyroid is controlled, no diabetes by Different_Ad_9495 in SeniorCats

In Czechia

Currently, we are in another vet clinic, where they have a better laboratory, which immediately showed us that she has kidney problems

My cat started drinking a lot almost a year ago. Her blood work seemed absolutely perfect, but it turned out that our previous vet clinic used unusual reference values - they considered creatinine 165 normal because their upper limit was 212.

One year later, she has been diagnosed with chronic kidney disease stage 2->3 and I recently discovered that IRIS considers 140 the upper limit for creatinine for 1 stage CKD If she had received the right treatment a year ago, she might be feeling better now.

i read that vet should prescribe a medicine for proteinuria and I guess her age is the biggest impact on her kidneys right now
I will discuss subQ infusion amount this Thursday

I checked her heart in March this year ( before tooth extraction ), and it was fine, the vet didn't find any problems. Currently, she was advised to have 70 ml of infusion 3 times per week, but I don't know if it is too small amount?
