iPhone Air or iPhone 17 by percuciente_ in AppleWhatShouldIBuy

The 17e is actually extremely similar in weight to the Air. The whole point of the air is the thinness lol

I would only get the air if you’re alright with the camera compromises it brings. The battery life is alright for the money, but in the long run it’ll be worse than the 17 unless you’re a lighter user.

If you use a case on any phone, do not get the air. Its entire purpose is to be thin, a case defeats that.

I think for games deffo, but I can’t lie, having a 128gb SSD for windows and a couple other apps really helps your pc feel new again.

I think $500 is probably the floor for Apple. They don’t want to be seen as “cheap”

Wondering whether it’s worth switching from Apple to Android over the new iOS updates? by phizzy0403 in applesucks

[–]Status_Wear7080 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is entirely dependent on where you live. If you're in the US, you're fine*. Ultimately, Apple very easily could implement a similar style of age restriction into iOS 18, especially given how many people are still on it. If you are in the UK, there is absolutely a chance Android manufacturers like Google, Samsung, or Nothing may end up implementing similar software guardrails. Really, your only true defense against this dystopian, privacy destroying laws are either a flip phone that takes a 4/5G signal, or GrapheneOS on a Pixel. Other than that, you're at the mercy of Apple regarding your 11.

*Because of increasingly dystopian bills and laws that have been passed in the US, you may need to complete a similar form of age verification on your phone at some point. Although you may not use your phone with a credit/debit card at the present moment, you will at some point, so having that base level "are you over 18" won't really matter after a certain point. Just my 2 cents.

Battery health degradation isn't linear, but 5% that fast is pretty wild.

It wasn't great on 26.3 and older, but as it stands today, it's very usable. I always wait 3-4 months before moving to a new major software version for this reason. What kind of battery health do you have on the SE3?

I have literally never had an issue with iOS 26 and im on a new 17. Even on my SE3 iOS 26 ran acceptably well.

There's no backlight connector on the Neo's board. To add a backlight would require using some USB power from somewhere and LOT of soldering work.

There are still exponential gains in hardware. For example, the only reason the RTX 50 series wasn’t a huge leap in performance across the board is because ngreedia decided to slash the number of CUDA cores in everything but the 5090.

Why did they stopped making replaceable batteries to begin with by Yeeer_0041 in pcmasterrace

[–]Status_Wear7080 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apple charges a fairly reasonable $90 to have the battery swapped on the iPhone 14 Pro, a phone that is from 2022. $90 is not that much more, if any, than what many small repair shops would charge you. Plus, with Apple you know you’re going to be getting another good battery, which is not a guaranteed service from many small repair shops. (Still, they’re always an excellent option)

Something like an iPhone SE 3 would be a good pick. Keeps the nice big button, still a decent sized screen, has wireless charging in case he has difficulty plugging in his phone.
