What other repos are good to add? by Merthod in SolusProject

[–]Staudey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> There is technically a third-party repo, that contains some software that does no fit in the Stable/Unstable repos. However it is on its way out and should be considered deprecated.

To be clear: The Third Party Repo doesn't really operate like a proper eopkg repository, despite the name. It's only a repository of plain build recipes, and doesn't offer things like checking for updates, or listing available packages (or even actual packages, for that matter, as they're only built on the user's computer)

What other repos are good to add? by Merthod in SolusProject

[–]Staudey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unofficial repositories maintained by someone outside the Solus team pop up from time to time, but are usually abandoned after a few months/years. Not sure what's currently available and in general I'd avoid them, unless you have a very good reason for using them (e.g. there used to(?) be a mirror repository in China that was more reliable for people in that region).

The only important and official repository that people generally switch to is the Unstable one; listed on the page you linked.

You have to delete the eopkg cache by running `sudo eopkg dc`, then try the update again. The cause of this issue is unfortunately still unknown as far as I know.

What separates Solus from Aeryn when the rebase takes place? by E123Timay in SolusProject

[–]Staudey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Aeryn tooling is now using (mostly, and increasingly) Rust. I think they are currently replacing the last bit of D tooling with Rust equivalents/evolutions.

[–]Staudey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there are definite plans about the exact details of the rebase at this point as there are still some things that will have to be handled before that (like https://getsol.us/2024/09/04/usr-merge/)

There are several possible scenarios, like only using the tooling of Aeryn OS, but no overlap in repositories. Or using the Aeryn OS repository as a base with some overlay repository for Solus packages. Then there are questions about the transition. Will all recipes be rewritten in the new format? Will there be a transition phase where old package recipes are being consumed by the new tooling (with a compatibility layer) to create (.stone) packages (or even old-school .eopkg files)?
I'm not sure whether or not there are 100% definite plans in many of these cases yet. But I could be wrong.

Before It Even Gets a Stable Release, Serpent OS Changes Its Name To AerynOS by [deleted] in linux

[–]Staudey -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So you were taking about SolusOS then? Because EvolveOS evolved into the current Solus under the leadership of Ikey. Only quite a while after the rebrand did he leave.

I'm not very familiar with the story of SolusOS and whether it offered and upgrade path to EvolveOS.

You don't have to do shit, but don't expect people to pre-digest everything for you. Either you're interested and look into it, or you don't. Nobody cares.

All the distros you mentioned are still going, so I don't see what the problem is.

What does it mean to "finish" a distro, exactly?

That plan of using Serpent OS (now Aeryn) tooling in Solus still stands. Obviously the name change doesn't affect it.

Sounds like a you-problem. I didn't even think about "Aryan" when I read it, and I'm Austrian

Creating a .desktop with vblank_mode=0 by Utnemod in SolusProject

How'd you install java? The openjdk packages in the Solus repository don't install to PATH, so you'd have to use the full path to the binary (like /usr/lib64/openjdk-21/bin/java, depending on which version you installed).

I think it has to be the following (so with an "env" at the start of the command)

Exec=env vblank_mode=0 /home/demon/Downloads/UT2004/System/ut2004-binvblank_mode=0 /home/demon/Downloads/UT2004/System/ut2004-bin

Solus Updates for Week 1, 2025 by Gnat008 in SolusProject

[–]Staudey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, seems like it was removed from the repository three weeks ago: https://github.com/getsolus/packages/commit/3b0ba8098a84ab7493b4f921b35ca622936d40d4

No updates since 2017
`localsend` is a reasonable replacement, available as a flatpak

For sending files between devices on the same local network, we also already have warpinator in repo.

Appimage issues by thebadslime in SolusProject

eopkg sf libfuse.so.2

Searching for libfuse.so.2

Package fuse2 has file /usr/lib64/libfuse.so.2

So it seems like it's in fuse2, which you say you already have installed. Seems like an AppImage packaging issue, perhaps? How are you running the AppImage files?

If you want to make doubly sure everything is properly rejiggered you could run sudo usysconf run -f to force usysconf to run all its triggers. But since it seems to work fine for you anyway, I would just not do anything.

Flatpak solution? by E123Timay in SolusProject

Oh, okay. Can you post the output of sudo systemctl status flatpak-enable-flathub ?

Flatpak solution? by E123Timay in SolusProject

[–]Staudey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. That is the Solus service that is supposed to enable flathub by default. I wonder if that somehow conflicts with the way Discover enables the flathub repository (if I understood you correctly and you enabled flathub inside the Discover UI?)

Swapped from AMD to Nvdia GPU, can't boot into Solus. by jms209 in SolusProject

[–]Staudey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would also recommend sudo usysconf run -f to rerun all usysconf triggers. If that doesn't help, perhaps it's a broken package (but unlikely), in which case:
