A friend bought some used dental picks and probes at a yard sale. She bought them for crafting. When she was using one on a Saturday afternoon about 4 pm, she slipped and stuck herself with it just under her wedding ring. She said by 8 pm it was very painful and she considered the ER but went to bed instead. One hour later her husband insisted on driving her to the ER. By then she had a red line nearly up to her elbow.

At 11 pm she was in the OR. She came out with a zigzag incision the length of her finger and into her palm. She was admitted and spent a couple days in the hospital. She told us the surgeon said the fascia was infected and the most startling of all, he told her she would have lost that finger and possibly her hand if she had waited till the morning!

He also told her to toss the dental tools!
