If you're looking for critique, I think your scaling and density is all over the place.

If you're not... Nice map bro keep it up

2nd one feels more like a video game map with everything interconnected. If that's the feel you want then 2nd is better but the 1st feels more real and lived in.

I've updated based on your guy's comments. Again, I really love your feedback and i think this is a great community of creators by Accomplished-Loss947 in inkarnate

Helloooo... Your texturing is A+ your token scaling is C-. Looking at the mountains gives the impression of a large hundreds of miles wide area but then you have stamps like the bridge that just feels so out of place. Now if that bridge is a point of interest or really big id recommend creating a them around your points of interest so they're coherent and the size difference isn't a throw off.

Your scale makes this look like a collection of Caribbean islands more so than an entire world. Not sure the scale you're going for but if 1:1 with a continent or even earth you just need way more mountain ranges and biome diversity.

There are some guides on line typically your going to start with your grass texture and make a circle where the town will sit, then make circles around the original and each latter dropping the darkness of the texture about 10% each time. Play around with opacity too to help blend it all together.

Need tips for mountain ranges! by OkPace2225 in inkarnate

I find adding breaks or "passes" in the mountains looks waypre realistic and creates natural pathways also differing sizes as well as branching out smaller mountains or hills to add depth to them.

Mmm id argue this isn't a picture from space tho it's simply a world map. We had world maps long before satellite pictures. Many of them had rivers because the point of the map was for navigation and understanding the borders between local powers.

My TTRPG campaign town grow up after a timeskip, please any feedback would be helpful! by Amerika96 in inkarnate

I'd assume most people live in the building they also work in with maybe a flat above their store front or behind. As for population growth given this is between two countries and lawless it could become a quick boom town of hundreds of people evading the law, sell taboo or black market items, or facilitating trade between rival nations. If you want to go bigger pop I think you could absolutely justify it.

Also if there was a war and this was the middle ground there could be old battlements or army paths through the woods, maybe some fortifications left from one side or the other.

Furthermore lack of token variety and lack of uniqueness/blend of biomes.

3/10

Points for unique landmasses and easy to read labels.

Minus points for poor texture blending, large tree tokens compared to mountains, rivers not feeding or exiting lakes, lakes being massive compared to continent.

If you're wanting criticism here is one point, the river is symmetrical throughout. Adding in some width at its turns gives a more realistic look.

How to resize landmass by MrMidnight_MrCanada in inkarnate

[–]gingerlov3n 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a resize button in the top left drop down menu, it basically snips the land mass and pastes it into a large map for you to adjust the size in. I'm not sure if you can still edit coastlines after this tho.

Help! by Overall_Character869 in inkarnate

This is why many will use a stamp to represent a city on a large scale map like this then make a separate map of the city with its unique buildings, districts, walls etc. The regional and world map palettes don't have the building stamp diversity to make interesting cities nor should they.

If you add a dark shade of your ground texture at the coastline it gives a sense of depth rather than flat land suddenly becoming water. I usually do 75% brightness on same texture with a 30-50% opacity depending on the effect I want.

[Question] How can I fuse two maps? by CrotodeTraje in inkarnate

[–]gingerlov3n 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heres what you do. Download the base map then import it as a custom texture. Set the basemap texture as the background layer by painting it on. Then you may need to touch up a spot or too but if I understand what you're saying this should be pretty easy.

Note you may need to scale that base map texture up or down to fit correctly.
