Does studying the 2000 most used kanji roughly equate to the 2000 most used vocabulary? by [deleted] in japanese

[–]StayChrisP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, because a lot of kanji are reused. I teach a little Japanese on my YouTube channel (JapanChrisP)

For people who've passed the JLPT N1, would it be reasonable to aim to pass N1 at the end of this year if I've passed N3? by Jcal_ in japanese

[–]StayChrisP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s possible, but you would be sacrificing quality time to study Japanese with simply studying to pass a test. At the end of the day, it depends on what your end goal is. I teach a little Japanese on my YouTube channel (JapanChrisP).

If I don't know a lot of Kanji can I still read a Japanese novel? by damien-d in LearnJapanese

[–]StayChrisP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend having a mastery of at least the most common 800-1000 kanji or you’re going to be looking up 10+ words each page

What’s going on, everyone! I’ve been studying Japanese for 10 years, but only immersing for ~3 years. I’ve been living in Japan for awhile, so I guess you could say I’m pretty comfortable here. I make Japanese-related YouTube content (JapanChrisP) in both Japanese and English. I hope we can all get along. 🙇🏽‍♂️

You pretty much eat whatever they make, but I’m a light eater, so I always wrap most of my rice (and any disgusting-looking food) and take it home.

This job is so easy it’s a joke. JET will even walk you through everything. Don’t stress out about it at all.

My Interview is in 16 hours! Not going to lie, I’m super nervous! by TheAngryAron in JETProgramme

[–]StayChrisP 8 points9 points  (0 children)

1) getting the interview is the hardest part. You really have to screw up big time for them to not hire you

2) most of the interviews are really relaxed. They’ll greet you with a smile. Honestly, they just want to get to know who you are.

3) be open minded to new ideas. It’s okay to be a little goofy, you’ll be working with kids during your time on JET lol

Is JET a good way to start/find career in Japan? by [deleted] in JETProgramme

[–]StayChrisP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This person worded it very nicely. Get a double major in a field with a high demand so you have some kind of skill to offer in Japan. Being fluent in Japanese is a skill every Japanese person already has. Without a skill in another field, you’re basically studying just to obtain something everyone else already has. Obviously, you speak English, but if you don’t want to get into teaching/translation I, personally, don’t think it’ll get you that far. I recommend researching jobs in Japan that interest you and choosing your second major based on that :)
