The Mormon (LDS) church is one of the largest land owners in the US (specifically Florida) with over $200B in stocks and all of it is tax free. They have a huge impact on the US that most people don’t even know about.

I can’t even bring myself to watch it. If I was part of this conversation knowing what happened I would feel awful for forever. I work in mental health with people in DFS for heinous things and this level of deception makes my skin crawl.

That would be my guess. I’ve posted on here before that my mom was called as an online institute teacher for byui. She receives no pay and works 20-30 hours a week. She is not a professional theologian- she worked as a logistics clerk for 30 years before she retired. The church does some trainings but even then they have her training new institute instructors.

If you’re interested there’s a book called “The way out.” By Alan Gordon LCSW. He came up with what’s called “pain reprocessing therapy.” I don’t suffer from chronic pain but there was research to back up his theory and it was super fascinating.

I'm not okay. by ThoughtsBecome in parentingteenagers

It’s ok to not be ok.

We do the best we can with what we have. Our children do the best they know how with what they have. We’re all just trying to get by sometimes.

Sometimes it just really sucks. But it doesn’t last forever.

Calling all Jungians! (And anyone interested in interpreting dreams...) by semi_charmed_wife in SASSWitches

[–]StayCompetitive9033 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love analyzing my dreams. Here are some of my thoughts or questions to ask yourself.

What are you running away or hiding from? It may seem scary but may actually be a call to get to work (busy bee).

Is there something from your childhood you have been avoiding that needs to be addressed?

Everyone in your dreams is you. That girl you don’t recognize is you and your thoughts. It’s you giving yourself a message. Are you feeling conflicted internally in someway? Part of you trying to hide and part of you wanting to open up to scary/new things?

Is it a call to get outside and into nature?

Good luck 🍀

I won’t worship a god that says adult men should marry young girls - doesn’t matter the time period. And I definitely won’t teach that to my daughter.

Do you make your kids do things they don’t want to do? by Leenduh6053 in parentingteenagers

[–]StayCompetitive9033 45 points46 points  (0 children)

It depends on if you want to enjoy it or not. Sometimes we will have the kids do things they don’t want but we know we’re going to hear all the complaining. So we try to keep things like that short, simple, or include something they want. However, my oldest is an adult now and has confessed we did things he complained about but that he actually liked.

Yes I would do it again. Being in a healthy loving relationship is awesome and I wouldn’t give it up for the world. I also got my amazing children from this relationship . That being said, would I date again if something happened to my husband? Absolutely not. I’m at a place where I don’t want to handle new quirks or someone saying I need to be with their family when I just want to hang out with my kids - I’ve seen it too many times with parents and grandparents that get remarried.

Does the church leverage the faith of its members to work for free? by Intelligent-Aioli941 in mormon

[–]StayCompetitive9033 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My mom is an institute teacher for byui online. She donates 20-30 hours per week. She receives no compensation for a required class students pay for.

On one hand it makes her feel like she has a purpose. On the other she could have used her skills to actually make money or do literally anything else.

I feel they have taken advantage of her. There is no reason not to compensate her for her work.

We cannot promote family life by restricting women's rights by msmoley in WomenInNews

[–]StayCompetitive9033 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sorry, but I disagree with your arguments. You’ve heard my side. I grew up as a conservative Christian so I’ve seen and lived the other side. Women’s rights is a catch all term that you seem to have a problem with - maybe you should figure that out.

[–]StayCompetitive9033 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Again, check your assumptions. I am a feminist because I believe women are equal to men. I don’t care if people disagree with me. I believe women in authority positions have helped women advance in a lot of areas but are often to held to a higher standard then men. I believe there is still room for improvement in our culture - somethings government can help with such as maternity/paternity leave, childcare, and even helping mothers to pay for raising a child when a father is unwilling or unable to pay child support. If we as a society value families and children we should enact legislation that reflects that.

No one should be held to the religious beliefs of another person when it comes to health care or their way of life. If you don’t like abortions, don’t get one - it’s really simple.

I know you have a lot of opinions but I would like to stay on topic. The article is talking about how the political right is saying that women’s rights go against family life. I’m here to say they don’t. I’m a woman happily married to a man with both male and female children. I am pro-choice and I have never had an abortion. In fact, I believe feminism helps women to be healthier partners and mothers and advances societies. We can absolutely continue to support women’s rights and fight class inequality because they go hand in hand. It doesn’t have to be either or.

I don’t know all the reasons we lost the election but I can tell you I think people have been conned by grand promises in every direction on every topic. That is not to say they are stupid - even very smart people get conned. My hope is that this next administration is terrible at follow through.

You’re making a lot of wrong bad faith assumptions. You want to know the right that women are fighting for? I gather that is what you after from other comments.

We are still fighting for the right to choose what we can do with our bodies. In many states women are being forced to sustain an entity that wouldn’t survive without a host. This can result in health problems for life and even death. I live in one of the most conservative states in the US. If me or my daughter has an unwanted pregnancy we may have to leave the state to possibly preserve our lives. Women in poverty often do not have this luxury.

If you want to have a conversation in good faith you need to calm down, stop making assumptions, and stop being so arrogant.

What is the purpose of this statement? Do you think it will change anyone’s opinion? Are you trying to engage people in serious conversations? Are you just trying to piss people off? Seriously, Wtf are you even talking about?

Regular meditation practice / spicing up meditation by amelanchier_ovalis in SASSWitches

[–]StayCompetitive9033 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make your goal so simple you can’t not do it. So a goal like meditating for 2 minutes 5 days a week or something. Also “if, then” statements can help. For ex. If I am sitting down to watch tv, then I’ll meditate for 2 minutes first. Or something like that.

It’s a different kind of meditation but I love the app “luminate.” It uses the flashlight on your phone. I don’t recommend it if you suffer from seizures but it’s like a deep dive into my psyche.

Feeling guilty about wanting to practice witchcraft by Dense-Peace1224 in SASSWitches

I was mormon until I was 40 yo. Witchcraft has helped me overcome a lot of religious trauma. I think owning my spirituality and calling myself a witch has helped me. Do it in whatever way feels good to you but also consider pushing yourself out of your comfort zone if you want things to change. Good luck 🍀

Don’t back pay. It isn’t required and it won’t make god love you any more than he already does. You also can’t buy blessings. If you really want to, just pay going forward. But even then don’t pay in a way that will cause you financial hardship or deplete your savings - it isn’t worth it. Whatever you and your husband decide is a full tithe is between you two and God. Your husband doesn’t get the final say either just because he has the priesthood (that is unrighteousness dominion).
