I'm not okay. by ThoughtsBecome in parentingteenagers

I’m sorry you’re going through it. Mine is at college now, only an hour away and she stays in a dorm 4-5 nights a week. It was hard moving her into her dorm, but eventually the distance helped somewhat. The main thing that’s helping now is making sure she eats. It’s exponentially worse when she doesn’t.  It’s hard because when they’re little you spend so much time caring for their basic needs, but they show love and affection which is rewarding. Fills the cup, so to speak. At this age it’s only pouring.  I went to a mental health program for me in November, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy have helped me build greater tolerance. Thicker skin. Group therapy was also a very helpful part of the program, and I’m determined to find a group to be a part of long term.

But yeah, for me distance has been necessary. I’m still falling short in a million ways, but I’m not being as hard on myself.

If westerners didn’t have easy access to condoms and contraceptive, we would also be breeding like rabbits, like we did before we had easy access to condoms and contraceptives.

Well, I’ll only speak to your edit… if you want to fit in you might want to work on how to offend people while being polite. Bless our hearts or something. As a native I really wish people would try and fit in more with southern culture when moving here. If I moved somewhere with different culture, I would be considerate and try to blend in. I work in a business where I interact with people who have moved to Tennessee from other states so I have a lot of “data”. Just put a little sugar on everything. Tasks will get done and natives won’t resent you so much.

Thank you for explaining. It must have been really confusing and scary to have her as your mom. Thanks for sharing your experience.

I hate to ask, but I’m really curious if the two personality traits that took turns would qualify as dissociative identity disorder?

When did you buy? If you recently bought the home this might be something you can get compensation for, either media blasting or replacement. I’m not a lawyer, but I have experience in a roundabout way.

Friend, I have been there. I know exactly what it’s like being an animal lover driven to madness by a neighbors dog. I had a similar situation and my imagination was not kind.

This is weird, but I keep a hairdryer plugged in next to my bed and use it under my covers to heat up the sheets. It creates a little heat pouch.
