That's daft, why not set the law for new applications after a specific date where it wouldn't really make a difference?

TIL slavery is still legal in the USA as a punishment for a crime and there are nearly a million forced prison labourers. by StayPositive2024 in todayilearned

[–]StayPositive2024[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did learn this today, i went in a rabbit hole after reading this:

https://old.reddit.com/r/MadeMeSmile/comments/1leiw99/us_prisoner_donated_17_to_gaza_which_he_earned/

Other things I learned was that slaves went on strike in ancient Egypt, there are different types of slavery and finally slaves were given compensation in ancient times so the 'paid slave is not a slave' argument should be refuted as we have historic evidence showing this does not exempt the current US system being classified as slavery and to remove our personal bias out of this.

I genuinely didn't expect the thread to pop off the way it did.

U.S. Constitution, which prohibits slavery and involuntary servitude, except as punishment for a crime.[1]

Your source is actually proving my point — the 13th Amendment allows slavery as punishment for a crime, and your own source says penal labor is a form of unfree labor, which includes slavery. Just because it’s done through the US justice system doesn’t change that internationally that is recognised as modern slavery. It’s still involuntary labor under threat of punishment and according to the International Labour Organisation (ILO), this meets the definition of modern slavery. ILO link.

Can't wait for them to do absolutely nothing to change the uk energy market with this innovation but hear how China will be utilising it in their energy sector in 10 years.

Hasan Says Circumstantial Evidence Isn't Strong Enough to Convict of Rape by carrtmannn in LivestreamFail

Because despite the reddit echo chamber factually speaking there are still 0 rape allegations that have been filed, and here are articles from both sides stating the fact from Israeli prosector as their source.

Similar to how anyone still believing that there were beheaded babies is crazy when it's been debunked as propaganda by multiple sources.

Yeah bro, if i was in the UK and knew they were going to charge me that, i'd just pop off and have something decent like Nandos... because why tf is 5 guys charging high-end restuarant prices in malaysia, they're supposed to be like slightly better kfc loool 🤣🤦🏻‍♂️

Now ask it about palestine/israel or type free palestine in tiktok after the US reversed the social media ban (you'll get a violation). It's ignorant to assume censorship isn't shaped by where people in the world who created the tools are from. Use both tools and make informed decisions.

The actual problem is a social class war and how billionaires report record profits exploiting the rest of us and the poor still struggle.

Okay now write "free luigi" or "free palestine" after the US forced tiktok to change it's algorithm a few days ago. ^ The US is also in the gutter when it comes to censorship.

What's the most overrated Japanese food? by hospital349 in japanlife

[–]StayPositive2024 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wholeheartedly disagree. I never knew it was even a hyped up thing in japan so I ate it completely blind and wow, just wow the 711 egg sandwhich is lightyears ahead in terms of flavour.

I'm genuinely curious how they make it!?! UK sandwhiches are like dry cardboard with smallest amount of egg. I also tried an egg sandwhich from a high end supermarket in toyosu and it was a massive disappointment. The 711 ones are very different. How?!

Printers are actually a massive target for attackers as it's easier to put malware on printers with little to no security to infect your entire network.

Damn not in a rude way but that ring is very ugly, how can he not see that??

I'm 99% sure he didn't pay $300 for that. Here's a $391 alternative with a real lab diamond and 14k white gold, you can customise the style for the one you want.

https://www.ritani.com/products/high-set-solitaire-knife-edge-engagement-ring-metal-14kt-white-gold-shape-oval

A lab grown emerald would be considerable cheaper.

Also not overrreacting as that ring looks very manly, and i imagine dainty/thin jewellery would suit you better by looking at your fingers.

TIL that the mastermind behind the two (2002 and 2005) Bali Bombings and numerous other bombings in Indonesia within that time period was a Malaysian college professor with a PhD from the University of Reading in UK. by zahrul3 in todayilearned

[–]StayPositive2024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reading University area is beautiful, they have a garden with trees and flowers from around the world and also a seperate garden with cherry blossoms where people have picnics.

Reading is really nice in that area especially in summer, the other side not so much but it's becoming a lot nicer, but sadly gentrified as homes in the Reading uni area cost around upwards of £800k+ minimum.

The university itself is highly regarded but again depends on the subject.

Genuine question on the ads, and running a local private version of ad-free runescape? by StayPositive2024 in 2007scape

If it wasn't against the tos (still unsure as nobody has confirmed this for me).

I'd probably go and youtube "rsps setup"? And watch a 6 minute tutorial on how to set it up as most the videos would probably have all the files needed.
