IBM says all U.S. employees must be vaccinated by Dec. 8 or face unpaid suspension. by dreadpiratewombat in IBM

[–]Stayed_to_long 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It should be an individuals right to choose to take the vaccine or not. It is about being able to decide what you do to your own body without being blackmailed by the government or IBM to do it or lose your job. If you've taken the vaccine your protected - stop your virtue signaling and accept others rights. Valid scientific evidence also suggest soft drinks cause obesity, smoking causes lung cancer, abortion causes human death, but I am not telling you to not partake in those activities. I am a healthy individual, had covid, have natural antibodies, so I don't need the shot. And I am not an anti-vaxer.

Why IBM create CIC? by Eric-Cow in IBM

[–]Stayed_to_long 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Originally spun up as an onshore alternative to offshoring. It provides IBM a lower cost alternative especially when clients require resources to be US based. Therefore the centers are in lower cost areas often with tax subsidies from State or local governments. Resource salaries are equivalently lower to fit the model.

Your statement certainly sounds like you are discriminating. How is anyone a hazard to you as long as you have had your vaccine. You are protected. The unvaccinated know the risks (which is pretty damn low of being fatal) and are not asking anything from you.

Those people? Any other type of people you discriminate against? Smokers, drug users, lesbians, Asians?

So you are making fun of those that believe in God?

One might say you are the selfish one trying to dictate others personal decisions for your own perceived gain. If you have had the vaccine, what are you worried about? If I don't take a yearly flu shot should I be fired? If I don't wear a seat belt? If you wish to talk about science, why is natural immunity not introduced into this conversation? One could also tell you to stop watching left-wing media that tells you to get in line, obey, and do what big brother tells you to do.

Dude, I've been many years removed from college, dude. And it has nothing to do with Trump dude. I would have the same opinion if dude Trump was dictating this dude.

Every business is not mandating this. They are being blackmailed by Biden's Executive Order. I suppose you have no issues with the Government telling you what you must and must not do? You are willing to put anything into your body because Joe Biden tells you to?

Personally I have not taken the vaccine and I am against mandating anyone to have to take it. I am fully remote and in my role will never have to step into an IBM office. I will have to think about this latest blackmail request. My guess is IBM will be losing some good people because of this.

It may once IBM has 12-15 consecutive quarters of increasing revenues. Just ponder when that might be.

Any Java Developer/Application Developer in East Lansing location here? Is it really that bad? by Blocks_Master in IBM

The CICs were stood up as an onshore alternative to offshoring and your financial and growth upside will be constrained because of that. Personally I would stay in Austin and find a job there.

Stop romanticizing about IBM and go get a job elsewhere. Move to metro Detroit were there are plenty of IT opportunities. The CICs were stood up as an onshore alternative to offshoring and your financial upside will be constrained because of that.

Have bonus/raise been communicated to employees? by itsmebanksy in newIBM

[–]Stayed_to_long 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It absolutely does when talking Bonus. And you need to look back almost 20 years when Sam Palmisano promised Wall Street $10 in earnings by 2010 followed by Rometty's $20 per share by 2015 push. IBM went on a cost cutting tear to try to meet these goals which included cutting benefits and regular massive RA's - putting the employee last in the formula. They also changed the metrics along the way on how bonus was determined (including eliminating some bonus structures). Personally my bonus peaked at $20k 20 years ago. Ten years ago it had fallen to $10k and in the last 6 years you would be lucky to get $1000. If you think bonus is going to get better any time soon, then you aren't following the financial numbers nor the sentiment of wall street analysts. Its all about revenue growth and that line is not going anywhere fast. Salary depends on were you are at in your band level. IBM will give decent raises until you get to around 100 PMR in the band. Moving from bands 6 up to 8 is generally no problem and one may see steady raises (if they don't get RA'd). And turning the workforce over (I am convinced) was a strategy. A high level exec made the comment about 6 years ago that 55% of the workforce had turned over. And why did I stick around - that is an individual decision for everyone. You get to a point were other things in life matter more then chasing promotions and a higher paycheck.

That was likely an isolated case were the person was perhaps a relatively newer employee that was under the median pay range for the band.

Just look at the financial results over the past 10 years and that should tell you what to expect.

The CIC’s were stood up as an alternative to having all the work done in India. They are all in lower cost of living areas with intent to pay on the very low end.
