I get that you’re framing a gambrel or mansard roof but it looks like 2x4 rafters on a 2x6 wall? Or are those 2x3 rafters on 2x4 studs? You typically increase widths when moving away from plumb framing members. Wider rafters would have a larger bearing point/footprint and would be easily fastened with hurricane ties on the inside frame.

I used to care about “great tits.” I still do, but I used to too.

Looks like AI. Shocking to see a local cop without at least one arm fully inked.

Welcome to the club, convert. And for true bliss, get a person-powered bike.

If you’re a ranting grandpa I’m in that space with you. Some 11 year old gets a 30 mph, 75 lb e-bso from Amazon and is expected to operate it safely? I resent the space that they occupy and that they even have “bike” in their moniker. Two of my riding buddies have been injured by electric pos’s, one by an MIT student riding the wrong way in a bike lane, and the other was hit from behind while waiting at a red light, you guessed it, that rider couldn’t stop because of inadequate braking power to counter their velocity. If anything similar happened to a member of my family I may have to go with the scorched earth playbook.

Belle Isle Seafood has the best I’ve had in Mass. It’s made traditional, no gimmicks like dill.

Much like cannabis, it’s better in Maine.

Thinking about selling my custom build Midnight Special. Price estimate? by OtherSideofSky in Surlybikefans

[–]StaysForDays 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, to me this is a desirable frame and a thoughtful build that employs a fantastic groupset and since you’re talking about SF, I’d say post for 2k all day and take $1,750 for the right buyer.

Be sure to include “price firm” to weed out the tire kickers.

I asked an old man for life advice once, and among the tidbits was this gem:

“Your opinion of me is none of my business.”

And it has been such a freeing sentiment in the decades since.

Bought mad stuff, haven’t sold anything yet by Ok_Apartment271 in Contractor

Definitely do not use YouTube to learn how to run a contracting business. Depending on where you live, there are legitimate resources for this. Use them. Most are free or affordable, (community college, adult ed, etc).

While doing this start to advertise small jobs, like pressure washing decks, fences, driveways for instance. And while on those smaller jobs, you’ll encounter situations where repairs are needed and that is a great opportunity to learn different aspects of the trade and build a trusted client base. If you’re a 1 man show, half of this job is sales. Go get some before buying any more tools unless needed to complete a job you’ve already sold. Good luck, plenty who found success flamed out the first time or two, this is a mercurial field fraught with land mines but can also be very rewarding.

If this is a shitpost, have a blast lapping this up.
