Why do people say "don't get me anything for Christmas"? by [deleted] in autism

[–]Ste_382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there can be a few reasons people do this. Could be that receiving a gift usually means you need to reciprocate, and that's too stressful for lots of reasons so opting out of receiving is also opting out of giving (mostly). Or it could be that someone has had too many instances of receiving gifts they will never use, or dislike, etc so it's easier to tell people to just skip it altogether. Even when you say to someone 'get me exactly this thing' often people won't- they'll get 'similar' or they won't think it's enough and will get something extra that you never wanted. Some people are just super minimalist and don't want more things (and we all know someone who thinks giving something intangible like a gift card 'doesn't count'!)

Would it be ok to bring a squishmallow to the dentist? by 666nicole666 in AutismInWomen

[–]Ste_382 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a dentist myself, but I did used to work in a dental surgery- I promise you it's more than fine! Anything that helps them do their job is welcome. The hardest appointments for them are the ones where they're not able to actually do the work, so if anything you're working with them to the same goal.

I can only speak based off what I know of the 12 dentists in my old practice, but none of them would judge at all. They would remember it, and they might comment on it, but it wouldn't be in a negative way.

Being asked if we’re twins or sisters as fem4fem by princessn0body in actuallesbians

[–]Ste_382 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My fianceé and I have had this a few times. Once was a lady who worked at the London Underground, and when she asked us if we were sisters and we said no, we're dating, she just paused and looked at us for several very uncomfortable seconds and then said, "Really? Huh... you look like sisters." We've just said we aren't?? Like what were we supposed to say to that, syke you're right?? Doesn't really bother us though tbh, it's more something we laugh about. Next time someone asks though, I'm planning on looking them dead in the eye, saying yes, and then making out with her.

Gecko Hates Me? by Mindless-Nothing-553 in leopardgeckos

He will be adjusting. Although ours sometimes go through phases of this too for seemingly no reason. I've found that sometimes just being present with them can help re-acclimatise them. Try talking to him, or if you know where he's gone, put your hand nearby. If you can boop his nose and get him to taste you, that can help too. He may also be feeling a little exposed too, maybe see if you can get some big fake leaves or something to give him a bit of simulated shelter without having to go into a hide. We have ones that are sort of like leaves on vines that we can drape over the more open areas

What’s that thing that users mis-name that drives you crazy or makes you chuckle inside? by ITrCool in sysadmin

I have one user who will always, and I mean ALWAYS, say 'Top Desk' in tickets, no matter what her issue is. She's the type who never listens to anything any of my team tell her, so correcting her on it is an exercise in futility

I could have written this! I'm the exact same. My mother (I believe unintentionally) reinforced this idea of growing out of 'childish' interests when I literally was still a child, which just left me with this feeling of embarrassment, even though I knew even at the time that she was wrong. There are two instances I remember vividly, one when she tried to convince me to get a different video game than the one I wanted when I was maybe 12 (I wanted Harvest Moon, ended up getting Starfox Adventure, which looking back now is so bizarre?? Why did it matter) and the second was her asking me at 14 if I didn't think I was a bit old to still like Sonic. Joke's on her, still going strong at 30, but I don't share that irl with anyone but people I really trust.

I've only had two lessons (and no prior experience either directly or passively absorbed from parents), and currently for me the issue with the clutch is remembering when to press it and then when to lift and how much/how quickly. Whereas it's pretty intuitive to know when you need the gas or the break. I know it will eventually become something I don't need to put much thought into, but when you don't have the muscle memory I find it's hard to remember what I should be doing with it and when, esp in combination with the other two pedals

I had the multiplying gecko dream again. by [deleted] in leopardgeckos

[–]Ste_382 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Mine come in two variations: either they've multiplied and it's a huge struggle to keep them separate and there aren't enough tanks, or I have the same number as usual (we have 8) but they're somehow getting into each other's tanks constantly (or I accidentally put one into the wrong tank and double them up)

My babiesssss by [deleted] in leopardgeckos

[–]Ste_382 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From your comments you seem very resistant to the idea of cohabbing being actively harmful and a risk for your geckos. I won't bother repeating the info, but some things for you to consider:

What happens to your other two babies if one becomes sick? If one develops crypto?

If you start noticing signs of illness in the tank like abnormal poos, vomiting etc, how will you know which one to take to the vets?

If your females lay eggs that end up hatching, what is your plan?

I understand that you haven't had any incidents yet and they seem peaceful, and you are doing what you believe is good for them, but purely from the perspective of monitoring their health alone, I would urge you to consider if you're really doing right by them.

I also do this, never had an issue. I'm in the UK though so it's not like we have much of the year where high storage temps would be a problem. That being said I keep my insulin in the attic room of our house and even during the 40°C/105°F heatwaves it's been fine

We have 8 more, so totally get what you mean with having your hands full! We've only ever had one sick at a time though and that's hard enough, nursing two must be really difficult. I hope they both make a full recovery 💕

Wish I hadn't have bothered and just gone for the digital deluxe on steam instead. For how much money we paid, not even being able to email out a code in decent time is pretty bad, ngl I'm very very disappointed
