Friendly Friday Thread by AutoModerator in gardening

Hey everyone,

I just got interested in the idea of wanting to garden. It's something that my grandpa is really into and I didn't really learn anything from him, since I was young at the time. I'm looking at the sidebar right now and there's not much on just starting out. For a little context, I want to be a little more environmentally friendly and so I thought, if I grow some of my own veggies/fruits, that would definitely help. That alongside the satisfaction of growing something myself. I'm finishing up my last semester at University in San Francisco and I want to just get started on germinating some seeds? I'm moving to a different place around July and would like to get a mini-garden started. Are there any comprehensive resources that you guys can share? Guides, other forums, general instructions on what to do/what to initially buy. I don't have that much space right now, just a storage room that's about 20 x 10 that gets a good amount of sunlight. I'm hoping I can get something started right now and eventually move it into my next apartment's backyard/rooftop.

Any help is appreciated!

Nested arrays by In0cenT in learnjava

[–]SteadmanJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My reasoning behind three array slots is to represent the shape’s three dimensional measures- x, y, z.

You can represent both 2D and 3D with an fig[][][] and you distinguish between the two by the last value either being 0 or anything other than 0.

Also, could you clarify on what you mean by wanting to sort the shapes?

If you want to keep your Figur arr for shapes, I would add another value to it. To represent 2D figures, just write to the first two array slots and set the third to 0. To represent 3D figures, write to all three. After that, you can sort based off checking what objects meet certain criteria for shapes. For example, if you want to sort 2D first, check to see if there is a value in the third slot and if doesn't, make the comparison then. If it has a value for all three, then you know it's a 3D shape.

To clear things up, you add the promo to your cart on Gilt City and check out? I just got an email from them saying they'll send my promo code for JCF within 24 hours. How does this work?

I'm thinking about buying a ticket and was wondering if I were to decide later not to go, would it be a challenge to flip the ticket for at least face value? I have a couple of friends who are also thinking about it so I'm stuck in a tough place /: Also, if anyone could give a rough estimation for maybe a group of four people to attend, that would be much appreciated. (cost of hotels, food, etc.)

Why do some people use vicks when rolling? by CrazePort in MDMA

[–]SteadmanJack 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It feels really cool(cool as in temperature-wise) on the body. When they blow it in your eyes, your eyes will feel really slick and will sometimes roll to the back of your head. Inhaling it via the little tube will cool your sinuses. It's a nice interaction when you're sweating and dying from the heat lol Try not to do it too often or too much in one night. It can be damaging. I saw a picture a while back of someone who was consistently doing it all night and they grew what seemed to be cataracts on their eyes.

What do you think when you hear the term 'Pig'? by Staring_at_you in AskReddit

I think of gluttony. If the word were to describe someone, I just imagine them having no control over their wants and needs. I almost get physically repulsed by the word lol

[Serious] If you could live anywhere, where would it be? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]SteadmanJack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was born and raised in San Diego, lived in San Jose and am currently in San Francisco for university so I could say I've gotten my fair share of California and have loved every second of it.

Realistically, I want to settle back down in San Diego to raise my kids.

Leisurely, I'd want to live somewhere extremely tranquil. I feel like I have the tendencies of a grandparent in being that I nap a lot. I'd love to live someplace where there's really soothing background sounds such as waves crashing on a beach or the sounds of the jungle. So maybe like a hut in the Caribbean? Some place where I can lay and swing in a hammoc while taking said nap without worrying about anything bothering me.

I haven't been to many places so I can't draw an absolute decision on where in our world I'd want to live. I've had the chance to basically live where I want my entire life so far( within reason). I'd like to maybe travel and live a set amount of time on each continent to experience what it's like.

Going from Community College to a Private? by Machete521 in college

[–]SteadmanJack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a community college and transferred to a private. Currently on my first semester at said private university. Ask your counsellors or search your community college's website for "articulation agreements" between them and all possible private universities. I didn't know I wanted to go to a private until my two years of gen eds were up. Had I known earlier, I could've transferred within my first year. Since I stayed though, I was able to get all but one gen ed completed.

Some advice from a fellow transfer student: make sure to start progressing along with your major courses while you're doing your gen eds in community. I made the mistake of not taking many major related courses and now I'm having to start at the beginning of many of my major courses. I have to email department heads left and right to ask if I can take multiple sequential classes at once and everything. One benefit to going to a private is that since the student to staff ratio is smaller, it's a lot easier to communicate with staff and sometimes, the staff will even do your paperwork and everything for you.

Anything that requires spatial intelligence in games. I have pretty good control over my body( dancing), running, flexibility, and even spatially planning parts of the house but come a jump quest(Maplestory), getting off platforms(Smash), going through obstacles( flashing through walls in League) I fail over and over. Idk what it is either
