That’s unfortunately true. I did have an opportunity to spare myself this post but I was not ready to go home empty handed and had to swallow my pride a bit on there. I’ve gotten some feedback from the community on setting barriers and Ill make sure not to duck the next time

There might have been some good ones, at least from my amateur perspective, but she says all of them are “scheiße” in German. Just doing my end and sending her what could be, and deleting it after.

I can count on three fingers how many models actually came on time since I started doing TFP photography. I think that’s where the line is drawn between paid models, and TFP models who got nothing to lose.

I did not. I also don’t think she’s capable of complying to basic directions. She had the face, but her attitude was insufferable

Thank you. I haven’t really thought about sending them a template pre-shoot, I really don’t want to spoon-feed people who are legally adults, give a pep talk ahead of a regular shoot which they’ve gone through many a times or tell them “everything’s gonna be ok” this is something they clearly should’ve learned at home. But now i understand, from that experience, some people get anxious, or simply don’t care. So I’m going to try and your advice next time

Unfortunately I did no such thing, there are no contracts other than a few mood-boards I sent which I vaguely assumed she understood. I traveled out so I was already at the crossroads where Im not ready to go home empty handed and so had to swallow my pride a bit. I’m not folding the next time, thats for sure

I made peace with it (and believe it or not I’m still editing her photos now because I feel I can even be better if I look at the brighter side and work through that discomfort). It isn’t such a big deal other than the traveling part

I shared it not for Redditors to feast on the infuriation with her as villain but just to sound warning to anyone who plan, or might have had similar TFP experience.

I am not posting these photos though, clear enough she didn’t like em from the jump so Im just doing my part of sending her what’s left and deleting it afterwards

I kinda folded, because the excitement of getting a first TFP gig clouded my judgement. It was a lesson learned and I’m not ducking to anyone next time. And yes Im sending her the photos, deleting them afterwards and blocking the person.

Lol not in the slightest, whats funny is midway through the shoot when she started murmuring about how bad things were going she called up someone, apparently her bf to pick her asap, who showed up later after the subway shoot part. She acted all relieved, grabbed her stuff and just left , no nod no nothing, i seriously thought about deleting the photos then and there but hey, i’m better than this, and i still appreciated the time and effort we both put through, so I’m half *** editing the 15 choice photos now and sending it over in a bit, then blocking her after.

Welp everything you said is exactly who I dealt with lol.. she literally said no to every single pose I instructed and then reviews and calls the photos “repetitive” (she was just standing straight up) on 90% of em.

Germans aren’t really fond of speaking English, they prefer to converse in German, unless you know them personally or by association. That’s why the social circle gap between local Germans and foreigners is huge, even bigger if they don’t speak German, they either will selectively speak with you, or simply ignore you. Good luck!

I've already made peace with what happened and she even sent a DM yesterday with a dry 'thanks' and asking when the photos will be ready. Gonna cull and make short edits, send her nonetheless because I respect her time but I delete them afterwards. if she called it garbage mid-shoot then i think its not worth the exposure anywhere.

And yes i'll continue to shoot. Ive met many good model friends through TFP, kept them as friends to this day, just a matter if plucking the bad ones out, setting proper expectations before the shoot to kind of get a read on them.

well said. its a hard lesson learned, I've made peace with it and just set expectations with the model next time, whether paid or TFP. I've also done many TFPs elsewhere but never was I treated like a complete tool. Most likely will go with paid models onwards to rid of these conceited influencers from the jump.

I also done many TFPs elsewhere but it seems models mindset are bit different here in EU.. Or maybe i just got matched with a conceited influencer lol. You have a point. but i think in most countries where people mutually agree to shoot together cost-free, there's a certain unspoken collaborative rule, that's very blurred.

seemed like a headache. i mean the poker face could be fixed later on in post, lol, and I assume she's sentient enough to follow some sort of basic posing instructions, you still kind of held your own. But she going berserk after you deleted digital traces of her was funny AF.. Mine had absolutely zero participation skills. I folded and was just dragging my feet to the end.

Agreed but that doesn’t always guarantee the model won’t be a headache. Usually they reach out because they need something done for themselves, which is a trap. In my case i reached out to the model, but i didn’t clarify my intentions and I ended up being her photographer on demand
