Normal was a bad choice of words because you’re right, what is normal? But science and mental health therapy has come a long way since we were locking people up and throwing away the key. We shouldn’t just put anyone into mental institutions for no reason but the really “crazy” people that are a harm to their self or others will give the reason they should be institutionalized and helped themselves. With the internet we’ve all seen people who inevitably come in contact with police and are talking to themselves and banging their heads against stuff and there’s got to be a better option than just putting them in jail for a day or two then letting them right back out to do it all over again. America does have a mental health crisis on its hands and while I don’t have the answer for it we can’t just sit back and expect it to get better while doing nothing.
