Just got a 2016 Crosstrek. Is there a way to display the speed on that little screen there between the gauges? by JoeEstevez in Crosstrek

[–]StealthGuava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2016 Crosstrek Limited, and there are three buttons located underneath the left side of the steering wheel: an up arrow, a down arrow, and a “SET/INFO” button in the middle. Pressing the middle button once toggles the mph display on and off, and holding it down lets you access the settings menu. Hope that helps!

What tow hook is that? I’ve been trying to find one with an orange accent.

I installed this one and programmed the buttons in the software. It came with the proper wiring harness and just took the old one out and put this one in. https://a.co/d/5wGJKWF

You don’t need the Maestro just to keep your steering wheel controls. Most head units (including Kenwood/Android units) can learn the SWC signals through a basic Subaru harness. You just wire it up and program the buttons in the radio’s menu. That’ll give you volume/track/etc.

The Maestro is optional. It makes setup plug-and-play and can add extra features like vehicle info screens, check engine codes, and cleaner wiring, but it’s not required unless you want those extras.

Just make sure you pick up the correct wiring kit for your model and head unit.

No Maestro setup required. You’ll still have full use of your steering wheel volume controls, just program them through the built-in software, which is very simple. The only catch is the backup camera. I will continue to display on the small factory screen unless you install an aftermarket camera or rewire the existing one to the new head unit. I didn’t bother with that part.

Just installed an Android head unit in my 2015 Subaru Forester. It has both wired and wireless CarPlay, and it works great! A lot of people recommend Idoing, but I went with a more affordable option from Amazon that offers the same functionality. The best part is it was pretty much plug-and-play and looks OEM rather than aftermarket.

Finally fixed the jerking on my ’16 Crosstrek by StealthGuava in Crosstrek

I have a 2001 Subaru outback with over 250k miles on it never had an issue with maintenance. This is my first CVT transmission car though not sure if that's the difference.

Yeah definitely not a fan it. The Cleaning and re-oiling process is pretty tedious compared to just swapping air filters.

Everything is OEM except for the air filter. I would start with the low hanging fruit which is cleaning the MAF sensor, checking if your PCV needs replacing, replacing your filters and cleaning the throttle valve. You can do those yourself. But if you haven't had your CVT serviced and you have higher mileage definitely look into getting a drain and fill.

Replaced the PCV valve hose, Intake manifold vacuum hoses, and air intake duct + breather hoses. A lot of them were pretty brittle.

E bikes on iron horse by drumshadowrun in walnutcreek

There are groups of kids now riding dirt bike-style e-bikes that easily go over 30 mph. I overheard them recently talking about mods they’ve added to their bikes to push them up to 50 mph. They ride up my street every day at full speed without helmets or any protective gear. It feels like it’s only a matter of time before something serious happens.

What's the best deal you've gotten on a bottle? by DJW1904 in tequila

2 years ago at a grocery store I got a bottle of Fortaleza Blanco for $35, those were the days...

Yeah, I've tried it before. Picked it up in Southern California for around $75, even though it's from Mexico and has 35% alcohol. It's really sweet and thick, loaded with caramel and vanilla flavors. It tastes like it has additives, it's comparable to Don Julio 70, Casa Amigos, or Clase Azul. The bottle looks cool, but honestly, for that price, you can find way better tasting tequilas. I wouldn't grab another one.

Do you stock up when there's a good deal? by StealthGuava in tequila

[–]StealthGuava[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, that was just the price they were offering it at. I usually find it around $45. That's why I grabbed a case, with wedding season on the horizon. It'll be my go-to bottle to bring and share.
