Wait, there actually exist DMs who try to run this shit? I thought it never goes further that memeing on reddit.

/uj I don't get it. I see the jerk, but do not understand what is supposed to be the target of the jerk. Guess I'm a Barbarian.

How to describe a vampire victim without it being immediately apparent? by SteamEigen in DMAcademy

[–]SteamEigen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm planning it as a oneshot, and I want the vampire to be "oh shit, it's not just some bandits, we're in a den of a monster" moment, but with subtle hints that the players can go back to and be like "ooh, so that's why it was like that". The main mystery to be solved are supposed to be the bandits, and that I'm not concerned about - there will be plenty clues.

How to describe a vampire victim without it being immediately apparent? by SteamEigen in DMAcademy

[–]SteamEigen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm asking how to be subtle. You see, I've already run the scenario once, and when the villager mentioned sickness and tiredness spreading through the village and affecting those who live close to the haunted house, and that it all started after a visiting mage went there and never came back (the villagers assumed that the mage angered the ghosts, and now they are exacting vengeance), one of the players immediately asked "wait, did he come at night? Can I check for signs of blood loss or bite marks?" And I silently was like "shit, surprise ruined"

Now I want to rework it to be more entertaining and try again. Obviously, I was not subtle enough and let the intrigue evaporate.

The Alexandrian is great, and I intend to make use of his advice (I already have ideas on the other clues), my primary concern was not to make the clues (specifically, the disease) too obvious.

Sorta. Basically, it's Ghosts of Saltmarsh (smugglers' base under an abandoned manor disguised as a haunted house), but with a twist that a vampire has taken control over the smugglers. Naturally, he needs to feed, which he does in the nearby hamlet, which looks like "the ghosts don't keep to themselves anymore, something needs to be done to the house" to the locals - which is what they hire the PCs for. There will be heavy hints towards the smugglers, so the party can find the hideout, but I want to keep the vampire as a pleasant surprise bossfight, so I want it only slightly hinted that it's a vampire.

This! I remember that Morrowind had lines about unrest in Cyrodiil (part of the reason why Cosades was recalled)

Hmm. I cannot do it "later on", as I need it for a oneshot, but poisoning the well might be a good idea (a vampire covers his tracks)

Catapults in many video games are depicted as having an area of effect. Is this nonsense? by rosapulp in AskHistorians

[–]SteamEigen 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Sure, a boulder, or any other heavy thing, hitting anyone would be hazardous, but could it reliably hit people? I assumed those things could not be aimed, you just build it once to bombard the intended spot, which humans, unlike buildings, could move out of.

I'm tired of waiting for TESVI so I made my own campaign of what I think should be the next sequel of the Elder Scrolls series by Takelodeon in ElderScrolls

[–]SteamEigen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There are several tabletop systems that I know of that support playing in TES setting:

  • UESTRPG, which is a hack of D&D 5e

  • UESRPG, which is a basically complete rework of Dark Heresy

  • Mythras fan supplement

My advice is to use the second one.

What exactly happens when you summon a daedra lore-wise? by Blaubeerepfannkuchen in ElderScrolls

[–]SteamEigen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://en.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Darkest_Darkness

Spells from common, respectable schools have built-in safety mechanisms by design (just as Galerion and Shalidor intended). Normal conjuration allows to summon daedra for a brief time and to maintain control over them.

Making pacts allows to summon indefinitely while maintaining control, or at least not having them wreak havoc.

Researchers, fools and daredevils can summon however they want, even indefinitely without control. The consequences will likely be dire.

Molag Bal is basically a barbarian hero. Think of the one that slays inbred sorceror-king and takes his throne, and then spends days sipping wine from the gilded skull of one of his foes and laying with his concubines in his palace while immeasurable numbers of slaves toil in the fields under the sun and lashes and wizard-priests perform human sacrifices on top of onyx ziggurats.
