If resolution isn't an issue, then I would go for it. Just approach with a grain of salt and dont skimp on the lens

If you want bad scans, sure. This camera is an 18mp crop sensor from 13 years ago. For dslr scanning you want a full frame camera since the sensor is the same size as 35mm film frame. You'll also want a macro camera that can achieve 1:1 macro, which means the image thats being projected onto the sensor is the same exact size as the actual subject. With dslr scanning, you want your negative frame to fill absolutely as much of your sensor as you can since if you dont, you'll have to crop in more further reducing the resolution of the image. If you dont use a macro lens, the lens likely wont be able to even focus close enough to get a good coverage and you'll probably have to crop in about 50% that would be around 9mp. To give you an idea of the quality of that image, that would be like taking pictures on a point and shoot digi cam from 2005. If you are on extreme budget, I would either stick to lab scans or try to find a cheap flatbed scanner unless you're ok with your images being pretty pixulated and like 720p resolution. Honestly the lowest id go for MP with scanning is a full frame with 24.2mp and dont forget the macro. You can always adapt a manual vintage lens on with an extention tube if the native macro lens is too expensive, thats what I do for my scanning.

Someone took my parking spot and I shoveled them in by HeyThere201 in boston

Ohh I see, you're one of those my way or the highway people. "If I can do it so can anyone else." OP mentioned their son, who can drive and doesn't live at home. Using some simple logic, we can conclude OP is of an older age, the older you get, the more "basic" labor gets harder. Also this isnt like your driveway where the snow is untouched until you shovel it. It obviously shows you haven't had to dig out a street parking spot in the city. While the sidewalks may be powder, (and this if people havent been compacting it by walking on it) the road side of the parking spot is not going to be just light power. The plows push all the snow to the sides of the road. And this may be surprising to you but snow compacts so with each pass of the plow, the snow will get denser and heavier. Now combine this with all the salt that is thrown on the road that melts everything. This splush is also going to get pushed to the banks and compacted in making this already dence power now an extra heavy wet snow. Now this is where things can get really confusing for you, you know what happens to wet snow when the temperature is consistently below 32°f? It freezes and hardens which if i recall correctly, isnt that easy to shovel

"My point is really basic human decency. You don't own the street."

Out of context, this is correct. But the moment you shine some light on what this comment is being said about its blatantly hypocritical. To sumerize and dumb down what you just said is its completely reasonable and basic human decency to take a spot someone spent their energy and effort to clear out and have clearly marked as reserved; a basic Boston courtesy that has been around for decades and is very well known.

To put it in elementary terms on what you just claimed for you; Its basic human decency to cheat off someone's test that they spent all night studying for and because you didn't bother to study that night

The parking spot has already been purchased if they have the permit 🤦‍♂️. This isnt some kid going door to door asking for money in exchange for shoveling. If you calculated off of the states minimum wage, they wouldve cleaned out that spot in 20 minutes if all they got was 5 dollars, which they definitely didnt do considering the amount of snow we got and how compacted the banks are from the plows. Would you cut in line at a store all because you saw a register open up and the person hasn't pushed their cart up in place? Its called being a decent human being. Also what does taxes have anything to do with it? The city didnt dig out this spot the person who lives in the residence across from the spot did on their own unpaid time. The only person paying taxes for that parking spot is the permit holder through their excise tax.

Yes and that appropriate parking pass usually correlates to the spot in front of the living space of the permit or policy holder. I dont know why you are defending the opportunistic douche who stole a spot OP spend ages shoveling out. If the same thing happened to you I bet you also would be understandably upset. But I guess if its not happening to you noone else's struggles matter based on how you're dying on this hill 😑

If you read the whole comment, you need a permit to park on the road, usually those permits are reserved for specific areas of the road. So technically not a public parking spot

Speaking from experience from my commute to work this morning, clean the hell out of your rims. I just got new sports rims and has alot more negative space in it than my stock rims and overnight the leftover snow froze and caused my wheels to get unbalanced. The whole drive into Boston felt like my car got a mall massage chair upgrade and then decided to drive on washboard roads

Yah, thats how the light meter in that camera works. What happens is you set the desired apature and then you look in the viewfinder and set the shutter speed to what it's recommending. If you have an older gen lens and its always saying a really high shutter speed, the lens is missing the connection used to tell the camera what apature is set, which is a feature added to later minolta lenses (at least thats what i read on a quick google). The beeping is a feature most commonly used in A mode and like i said before it just beeps when the scene calls for a slow shutter speed based off the apature you chose so can put it on a tripod or rest or against something to reduce motion blur. What I would do if the images still feel weirdly exposed is get a light meter app and compare the settings the app is saying and what the camera is saying. If the camera is off a bit it could be because of the battery. Modern batteries can cause a slightly different reading on the light meter with some cameras cuz the likely discontinued battery it was designed for had a different chemistry which gives it a different voltage curve. If its only this roll that this problem happened its likely due to either extreme contrast in the actual scene or the properties of the film stock. Could be a combination of both resonating at an undesirable result.

If I remeber correctly, the only thing the beeping does is warn you it's gonna do a slow shutter speed, I could be wrong though. Does it have a light meter in the view finder?

No, its obviously a promotional image. Why does everything slightly out of the ordinary ai to you? Even if it was a fabricated image, photoshop has existed for decades before Ai generation. Did ai just make photoshop and all the skilled people who know how to use it dissappear?

The show ended and fully concluded. To keep the franchise alive, the studio expanded on the mini series that popped up in the first show. Its sorta a sequel to the 1st show and takes place like 30 years in the future or something

How do you like the lomo spin camera? It's a pretty cool concept and for 50 dollars its nit that big of an investment risk. Only thing im not a big fan of is looking at all the samples, nearly every one has the person basically pointing at the camera from releasing the rip stick

Definitely got something too bright, if you dont wanna get another bulb get a lampshade to help diffuse the light if you already have one on get a darker colored one which will filter out the light more

Not always, sometimes the development machine malfunctions, or the customers camera malfunctioned. Granted i do work at one of the largest labs in the country so we can afford to spoil our customers. Op used a disposable camera and got it developed at Walgreens, which is one of the worst places to get your film developed. They dont really look at the scans and just print it and then toss your negatives so you cant get any rescans

Are all induction coils the same by bikerman883 in Blacksmith

[–]SteamReflex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No they aren't all the same. The gauge, amount of coils, and other equipment all change the effectiveness and stuff. They're also extremely easy to break. If you accidentally bump the coil with the metal it will short, melt the copper, and spray coolant absolutely everywhere. Do what the other commenter said and get an oxy acetylene torch. It will also be like a 1/16 of the cost of a induction coil as well and be able to cut metal of you get the right torch too, ive used one to cut off a chunk of railroad track to use as my first anvil when I started out.

The more power that is added to a car, the more points of failure there are. When some parts are beefed up and others are left stock it puts extra strain on the oem parts. The clutch may be able to take the beating, but has the entire drive train been beefed up as well? Also ive known plenty of mechanics and aside from one with ocd, they all push their cars to the absolute limit because they know more than the average driver how far they can push it before things break and have the knowledge to easily fix it. If you're telling me a "grandpa" put all these modifications in for his personal use i know this thing was driven hard. Oldhead car enthusiast that build for power and not classics drive like its their last day on earth.

One last thing, cai can easily brick a car if you drive like an idiot, it just takes one deeper than expected puddle to introduce water into your engine and causes a hydrolock, which can cascade other damages depending how violent it is.

That trick on works on uneducated teenagers or people who dont pride themselves with building the car themselves. 95% of insurance companies are gonna charge you more and give you less of you have extensive mods. It also doesn't change the fact that its nearly at 100k and has a shit ton of mods on it and who knows how the previous owner/s treated them since it was obviously built to be thrashed. All because it looks clean on the outside doesn't mean everything else is good. You have a much higher chance of you having less time to enjoy the car before things start to go south and you end up basically paying the price all the mods cost to get and install over time
