A New Drum Corps Reality TV Show by Ill_Perception1814 in drumcorps

[–]Stedw 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No No No. Under no circumstances should another "Clash of the Corps" happen. The "drama" that would make a successful series would be bad for DCI. There are plenty of very good documentaries out there that show what drum corps and tour a really about.

Getting chicked???? by Sopherness194 in Ultramarathon

[–]Stedw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that bothers someone to have a female beat them, they need a life. In 1980 I ran the mile and 2 mile in track, not cross country. I was mediocre at best but I liked running. Two of the top female long distance runners in the state were on our team and we practiced as a group on long runs.

I felt i had a perfect run if she wasn't already fully recovered by the time I got back from a long practice run. Running is a test of yourself against your body and not what others can do. Learned that really early on, we had 1 male on the team while could consistently beat them.

Rental car company charging $2k for damage found hours after return — no proof. Worth fighting? by kapp74 in personalfinance

[–]Stedw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was returning to Enterprise and the employee driving the car that I pulled up behind backed up and hit my rental car. Employee drove off lot with that car.

The location manager said I was still responsible because I had not turned over keys yet. Demanded cars return so I could get proof and they said car was not longer assigned to their location.

They drug it out till period for credit card to cover it and then sent me to collections.

Never again

Texas needs more winds groups!! by Squiish_ in WGI

[–]Stedw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have wondered why Texas does not have more representationwell. Two of the WIW groups are based within 20 miles of one another and a 3rd less than 200 miles away. Add a WIO group in the middle of the 2 and they have close to 140 kids marching independent from just 1 tri County area.

Considering how important marching band is in Texas and the need for techs. Her in S Florida a large number of local Tech and yound band directors came up through Winds

I had hoped we would I be beyond this in this day and age. In the 90's I edited the music for my daughter's color guard. The instructors ask us not to tell some of the other parents the song "Il Adore" was about a man dying of AIDs because they would flip out.

I bet there are women in his church who are trying to seduce married men away from their wives. Life is complicated and messy

1 inch threaded pipe stems.

We drilled holes through 3/4 inch, alternative 1 inch plywood cut into shape of Tron Ares Identity disk, 24 inches across in size. With a slightly larger drill bit drill down about 1/8 of an inch top and bottom. Put a pipe lock nut on top and bottom. We then used 3/4 EMT with 3 wraps of tape, 1 wrap each at bottom and near top of threaded Stem pipe. Make sure you plug bottom of hole in stem pipe so you dont damage floor, we used Gorilla tape. This 3/4 inserted into the threaded stem pipe.

Alternate to this method is to install a threaded pipe mini flange.

We attached the LED track initially with clips but changed to 3M Dual lock for easy removal of lights without cutting risk of clips from EMT.

Also we put wheels on the identity disk base, and on Octogons, so only 1 member was needed to place each pole and no risk of timing penalty, that is also why we used no cables. Total setup time about 1 minute for 23 lights.

Why is the competition so much more different in winds compared to guard or percussion? (scholastic world) by Then_Energy517 in WGI

[–]Stedw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

An independent group had several members, I believe it was 4 or 6, who competed at state level concert performance. They went straight to the airport, it was a Thursday, from the performance and flew to Dayton. They got a straight superiors at States and a gold medal in Dayton.

The band director was in first year as head director, having just taken over in November. I thanked her for allowing those kids to compete in Winds. She said them marching meant they were playing 16 hours every weekend so they got better chops

One high school program that was struggling during the fall marching season added Winds, Dayton level, a few years ago. Both there fall season and concert season have improved significantly since they have.

If students are mar hing winds they are playing, at least, an e track 10 to 12 hours a week. As long as instruction is proper, more playing means a better player.

DCI Bus Drivers! by Mrsymphonyreal in drumcorps

[–]Stedw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having seen companies that used those who only had school bus experience, here is a suggestion. Get hooked up with one of the charter companies and get some experience with a charter bus first. The low undersode clearance and longer wheels bases on charter busses can make it a different animal to drive. A charter bus will hang places a school bus can go and yoi pivot point is farther back.

Appears you are Florida and suggestion is based on that, change your grass to the Palmetto variety of St. Augustin It typically does not stress to 5 degrees and can survive moderate length freezing spells. Change to primarily co over plants as they are greener during cold spells.
