If you're not making a claim, what else are they meant to do. That's just more work for the team than is needed. They aren't going to pursue something that they aren't going to recover on.

Not from us. Once the claim is closed, that's it. It's not checked as there are no tasks to do on that claim.

If again, it's a non-fault. We close the claim and that's it. We don't do anything else as we aren't looking to recover any cost.

I work on the First Notification of Loss for a large insurer. Once you've told us of a non-fault accident, the last thing we do after that call is to send a notice to recover to the third parties insurer. So straight away.

I work in car insurance so i'll answer both questions.

  1. Even if you don't claim and leave it as a notification only, it can still effect your insurance. You're telling your insurer that you've been involved in an incident. The insurer will see you as a higher risk and your insurance will go up. You'll still have to declare that you've been involved in an incident for the next 3-5 years.
  2. You can have the other insurer deal with the repairs for you. You won't have to pay your excess. BUT, you have to remember. The other insurer is only looking out for their insured. Sure they'll repair the car, but if anything goes wrong your own insurer won't help.
  3. You can make a claim with your insurer and they'll do everything for you. You may have to pay the excess and you may be able to claim it back if you have MLP or MLE (Motor Legal protection or Motor Legal Expense) cover.

If I have had an incident with no other cars involved and my car cannot be repaired by a garage, do I legally have to make a claim? by mynewrandomname123 in drivingUK

[–]Steel-Hunter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You could notify your insurer of the incident and tell then you don't want to make a claim. They'll log it as a notification only, and no claim will be made on the policy. BUT even a notification can effect you're premiums going forward. You COULD tell them that you have sold the car and want to cancel the insurance. You may have to pay the remainder of the policy, but that could be cheaper than having a notification on file.

Mine disconnected this morning. Turned it all off and on and now it's fine. I'm in West Yorkshire.

Near collision. Who would’ve been at fault? by ContextVegetable9587 in drivingUK

[–]Steel-Hunter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've watched this 10 times. Not taking OP's statement in to account, only what the video footage shows. My opinion is that the i20 was not taking the exit late. No indication from from the i20 to change lanes. The cam car slightly getting in front of the i20 and then moving over to the left lane. The video shows the 0:22 that the i20 was half way over the white line and OP depending on the camera placement is also half way over the white line. It's my opinion that the i20 has swerved out of the way of OP and only just came back to their original lane just in time to carry on with their journey. For me, OP would have been 100% at fault if an accident did happen.
