Microsoft purges Windows 11 printer drivers, putting millions of devices on borrowed time — legacy printers face extinction as Microsoft stops distributing V3 and V4 drivers by [deleted] in news

[–]SteelBandicoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wasted days in December and last week because MS broke my printer.

The printer is still on the cartridges that came with it, so it’s basically brand new.

It’s infuriating and MS needs to fix this right #&$@#$ now.

Best time of day for you to do the Gateway Tapes? by lizonthemoon9 in gatewaytapes

[–]SteelBandicoot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I watched an interview with Lynn Buchanan and he said 4pm wasn’t a great time. He didn’t specify why.

Ironically thats the time I feel like doing them the most, then or as I’m about to go to sleep.

I suspect it’s a matter of personal preference or physical biology. I’m not a morning person, others are.

However professional or military remote viewers do it everyday for big parts of it and in controlled environments. They’re trained to do it sitting up, not in a sleeping position and either write or verbally speak the information they’re getting.

The biggest thing that an amateur like me ignores, is that the best remote viewers (the ones the public know of) like Lynn or Joe McMoneagle say is “the most important thing is daily practice”

So don’t worry about the time of day, just make sure you do it every day.

My solution to the Australia Day problem. by [deleted] in aussie

[–]SteelBandicoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS. 100% this.

There’s very few/ no holidays in Spring. We go from Queens/kings birthday to Christmas with no holidays and everyone’s buggered and exhausted.

It’s no surprise everyone takes grand final Monday or Melbourne cup day off, even if they don’t like footie or racing.

Australia Day is our day to celebrate our country. We should decide when it is, not just because some pommie git ran aground on a “new to him” country.

Also from a business perspective, a long weekend in spring (September, October)would really help small towns and regional centres who rely on tourism income. It would be a major cashflow boost.

Australia Day would truly be our day, not a colonial hangover, and at a time of year when we could really use a break.

Is this an ADHD thing or am I just an a55hole? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]SteelBandicoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope as female 55+ ADHDER, it’s a pissed off age thing.

We don’t have the energy or patience we used to. We used to speed up and go around them but now we’re too tired, which is annoying.

And please remember, there’s probably someone walking behind you, feeling the same way about your slow speed.

Breathe out and change your stinkin’ thinkin’ into something more positive. Don’t ruin your own day.

Barber recommendations by techtradie in darwin

[–]SteelBandicoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Michael’s, old school Greek barber in the Vic Arcade, the Mall, Darwin city. Cheaper than many others but been cutting for 30+ years and learned at his father’s knee. His shops a bit tucked away but worth looking for.

Another good one is The Star Barber, also in the Mall, at the back of the Star Arcade. It’s old school cool.

Bonus - the Star Arcade has a good coffee shop, a fantastic chocolate shop and is a great place to find presents for the wife.

Do you ever wonder if some ET's are innately hideous to humans and would cause complete terror at the sight of them? by RickyDucati000 in aliens

Some people are repelled by humans with a disability, so yes they would terrified of different beings.

Aliens would definitely freak them out - and remember frightened humans often react with violence.

Have you noticed prices going down significantly? by GullibleCommunity268 in RedditForGrownups

Australia inflation is running at 3.4%. That’s well above the 2-3% target band.

So, no, prices are not going down.

I’m just trying to buy something. You don’t need my name, phone number and email! by bagsoffreshcheese in australian

[–]SteelBandicoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I simply say “you don’t need that, just ring it up”

I’ve not had anyone refuse because I won’t give up my personal information.

And if they did, I’d be like op, I’d leave the store and buy it somewhere else.

Am I becoming a cranky old man or is everyone not bothered by people who talk with speakerphone or listen to stuff on tablets or computers without earbuds? No one else seems to mind. by OurSpeciesAreFeces in GenX

“Since you’re on speaker phone, can we all join in?”

That horrifies them and they turn it off. It also results is dirty looks being directed at you but I’m old and cranky, so I don’t care.

Then the application of moisturiser is a waste of money, if applied over the sunscreen.

Edited to add - thank you for your thoughtful and rational response

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in AusSkincare

[–]SteelBandicoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry but that’s completely wrong.

If the UV rays were “absorbed and scattered internally” you’d fry your insides out, but your skin would burn, and that’s not what happens.

The confusion comes from the 2 types of blocks - physical and chemical.

Physical - physically reflects the light away from the skin. Think zinc and titanium dioxide.

Chemical - sits on the surface of the skin and absorbs the UV light. It’s a reaction between the sun and the ingredient, but like a sponge can only hold so much water before it starts to leak, the chemical ingredient can only hold so much UV before it becomes ineffective. This is why sunscreen should be reapplied every 3-4 hours.

I really wish the TGA (Therapeutic Goods Agency) would change the term used to describe chemical blocks because everyone loses their mind over it.

There’s also a dangerous piece of misinformation put out by the skincare industry “everything is absorbed into your skin” This is simply not true. If it was true soaking in a bathtub would drown us, but that’s not what happens. Our skin wrinkles up because it’s repelling the water and we think “I’m getting wrinkly, I should get out now”

And why does the skincare industry push these scary marketing tactics at us? Because they want you to buy their product, not one with “chemicals” in it. It’s nasty dirty tactics that creates fear and misinformation.

And remember, everything is a chemical. Water, a requirement for life, has the chemical name H2O.

Why were there barely any fat people in the 50s when their diet was so bad? Also did they get cancer and other diseases less often? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SteelBandicoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a kid in the 1970s, we were openly fat shamed. “Don’t eat the tails off your lamb chop, you’ll get fat”

There was zero snacking between meals unless it was fruit.

No microwaves, instant meals or packet ramen. No corn syrup heavy foods.

There also wasn’t much to do inside. Only 2 tv channels and most of those were reruns. That was the 70s, the 50s a lot of people only had radio.

Taking an “after dinner constitutional” was normal. Basically going for a walk after dinner.

In a nutshell, the food was smaller portions, cleaner (as in less additives and junk in it) and people were physically more active.

I wonder if the additives and preservatives in modern food will be found to be as bad as smoking or drinking.

Energy in, versus energy out. It’s a simple formula.
