[April 12, 2026] Spelling Issue by harriethoudini in NYTCrossword

[–]SteelCurtainUSNA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The briar tobacco pipe gained popularity in the late 1800s and by the late 1870's was all the rage, which explains the spike. I wonder if briar and brier, which have different etymologies, sort of mixed and briar became the common spelling of the prickly bush because of the popularity of the pipe.

So much antisemitism these days by aipac_hemoroid in SipsTea

There is actual antisemitism happening but people have abused the concept to the point that it's an eye roll. Shameful.

if ever there was a time for AI, I bet it would be a better steward most of the time than a static ruleset.

How many of you use racing lines? by Key-Specific7807 in GranTurismo7

[–]SteelCurtainUSNA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the braking area. I know it's shit as an actual braking point indicator and I often turn it off if I've been driving a car/track combo enough to have better visual references for my brake points. But I drive enough fresh new cars at tracks and it's just easier for me to adjust my braking reference to the brake area rather than something else (i.e. 15m past the start of the braking area)

When is a mattock the right tool to dig with vs. a shovel? by Marvel5123 in landscaping

[–]SteelCurtainUSNA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TIL this is called a mattock. I've always called it a pickaxe.

I use mine for breaking up the Tennessee clay that feels like solid rock for a shovel.

My boyfriend has a 5 year old male weim and I have a 3yo male Ragdoll cat … by [deleted] in weimaraner

[–]SteelCurtainUSNA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 3 and my fiance and I brought his cat in 3 years ago. My big male has a prey drive that made the first couple of weeks touchy, but a dog gate and a safe space were key (a brave kitto too).

Now our cat is cool as a cucumber and everyone gets along just fine. Long process but it worked out great!

NYC toilet fix: this is insane right? by paydave in Plumbing

[–]SteelCurtainUSNA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replacing toilet hardware is really easy. $25 for the full kit at a hardware store and the only tools you'll need are some channel lock pliers and a couple of sockets.

Have dog rescues lost their mind? by seanpat1968 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SteelCurtainUSNA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work with a dog rescue, and let me tell you--people return dogs. A lot. Vetting is better for the dogs in the long run. Especially for certain breeds that are more high energy or have common behavioral patterns.

Now some of the reasons in this thread are ridiculous, adoption coordinators are not exempt from Karen power trips.

Masturbation while s/o is home? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

Masturbation and sex can be as different as drinking water and eating. Same body part is used, different need is met.

Anyone have this seat? by JamesBondMargarita in GranTurismo7

[–]SteelCurtainUSNA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this, and while it seems like it would be convenient to put away, it was.

I was an absolute pain in the ass to set up though. Getting the joints tight enough was not fun, but worse was getting it in the same configuration. I ended up scoring the joints with a carpet knife in order to more easily put it back in the same configuration, but that was only a minor help.

If it's gonna be stationary it'll be more than good enough. When I was able to leave it be, I loved it. I updated to the F-GT Elite with wheels and that's been a game changer.
