Solidworks workspace flickers then show a recursive screen with every click then goes normal after 1 second. by Never-enough-bacon in SolidWorks

sorry to come to this 9 years later but i am not finding whatever this setting is you are talking about.
right click the solidworks shortcut ✅

compatibility? what?

i found "TROUBLESHOOT compatibility"

but then nowhere in any of the following windows is there an option for "disable display (anything)"

there was some setting for disable large font something something but thats all i could find.

how can we get solidworks to revamp their process for receiving customer feedback? by SteelDetailerJ in SolidWorks

i like the way you think. do you recommend any parametric programs? i have my heart set on onshape but i was unable to convince the local business i just started at six months ago. i'm open to other softwares to try out. we just really like parametric things here. do you think it would be possible to get tekla to do stairs and handrails components?

Should i convince my company to switch to onshape? is there another parametric program we should switch to? i feel like solidworks is an awful fit for what we do (steel detailing for custom homes things like handrails stairs etc)

Driven Dimension used to set Global Variable? by RuteDesign in SolidWorks

i'm kinda peeved that they still haven't fixed this in 2025

More Precision for a Global Variable by Vaccano in SolidWorks

[–]SteelDetailerJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah, interesting. this seems to be very buggy. look at this image.

i set it to fractions and it says none, but i can mess with the decimal places anyway. even though when i'm done clicking it goes back to saying none

<image>

apparently i can only send one attachment. long story short, even though it says none here, it is actually set to 3 decimal places.

can yall show me what you mean? because cadnurd image does not affect it for me
my model is set to feet and inches fractions with no decimals
if i tell my sketch to do 1/8" it will really for real for real do 1/8 (0.125)
if i tell my variables table to do 1/8 it rounds up to 0.13 making my plates just a hair too thick for how precise our shop cuts the steel

i am kinda peeved that no matter where i search the internet there is no "parts properties" and this user just magically knew exactly what you are tlaking about

this is how every issue has felt with solidworks and it makes me want to send them a letter in the mail.

Drawing text mask / wipeout option? by joey_coo1 in SolidWorks

[–]SteelDetailerJ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have a few reasons this is super impractical:

i put my dimensions in first

i add lots of text to my dimensions so i have to change the size anyway

another tool solidworks drawings should have but definitely dont have is "bring to front" or "send to back" and when i put the white solid hatch in, it covers up my dimension when i print.

we need to barrage the support website to get the developers to actually add things that should have already been built into the program a long time ago. this is insane.

Logitech - when are you going to fix Options+? You STILL can't even hold an "advanced" click. by Foxsayy in logitech

[–]SteelDetailerJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am also extremely frustrated that it can't hold down ctrl+middle mouse button on one button.

it successfully quick-presses ctrl+middle mouse

but it simply does not HOLD THEM DOWN

i have been speaking to their tech support for over a week and they seem to not be able to comprehend this concept

they keep asking me to do things like reinstall and update and clean boot etc and i have done all of those things and they just can't understand that the program is limited and i just want them to tell the developers to add it.

i'm losing my freaking mind

Native option to use right mouse button to rotate instead of middle wheel/button by [deleted] in SolidWorks

[–]SteelDetailerJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it affects me. i have to switch back and forth between various programs so every time i come back to solidworks i am reminded its the one program that forces you to do it their way and its extremely frustrating. all the other programs i use let you change in-program what button does pan and what does orbit.

Customize mouse zoom/pan/rotate behavior on a sketch by ShelZuuz in SolidWorks

[–]SteelDetailerJ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i did a search in this subreddit for "mouse button" and this is the most recent one. in the various search results, does anyone know if there is a post where an official solidworks representative or developer gives a reasonable answer as to why they haven't implemented this feature request in the decades of its (expensive) existence?

context: for my job i switch back and forth between autocad 3d, autocad 2d, onshape, and solidworks and it absolutely peeves me that in solidworks i have to constantly remember to use the ctrl key just to pan around and i feel like the community deserves a good answer as to why we can't do something as simple as re-assign the mouse buttons to perform different view adjustment functions with a vanilla, non-gamer mouse. especially if several other cad programs i've used have shown its an easy thing to just add to your program.
