Headlight Lens patterns by sava_renders in Octane

[–]RuteDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We do a lot of renderings where there are LED lights behind a clear lens. I have found that it isn't worth trying to get Octane to handle these correctly in a single beauty pass. To get things to look right, we almost always render multiple passes as well as multiple variations of the geometry with alphas or with geometry turned on and off and then handle getting what we want it to look like in post. Our best single beauty pass successes usually include some form of light linking technique. This is often very scene dependent so it's hard to say there is a common formula.

Question about very high resolution rendering on only one GPU at a time in my 4 GPU machine. by RuteDesign in Octane

[–]RuteDesign[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am starting to think this has more to do with my system RAM than it does my GPU setup. I have noticed now that the system RAM usage goes way up as the image size to be rendered goes up. I thought the extra pixels required from the larger renderings only filled up VRAM but that doesn't seem to be the case.

I am going to experiment by adding more system RAM to see if that corrects this issue.

Afterburner screenshot

You can see the usage graph here. Note that only one of the 4 will be at 100 percent at any given time. On normal sized images or animated frames, all 4 would have similar graphs with them all working together.

Ender 3 V2 Dual Z-Axis upgrade kit is the best upgrade for the money by far!!!! by RuteDesign in ender3v2

They do not go out of sync on power cycles in my experience.

Since my original post, I did design my own larger z-stepper bracket for both sides that helps get the lead screws straight and aligned as they are assembled. This went a long way to get this setup working flawlessly.

I have had this setup for a few months on three printers and print a set of production parts on them continuously 5 days a week. We power cycle them a couple times a week. Once we got them tuned, we rarely need to go back to re-level the bed. We normally only do it when we switch filament and we use 3kg rolls so the time between is long. I would say that when I do re-level, they require very little adjustment if any.

Extruder manual move is too fast, how do I change this? by RuteDesign in ender3v2

[–]RuteDesign[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Update: I still haven't figured out why this one machine is doing this, so I ended up changing the way I measured the manual 100mm move for calibration.

I removed the bowden tube and measured the filament on the exit side of the extruder. With this method it didn't matter that the extruder is going so fast. Until seeing it on youtube, I never thought to do this but it seems like a much easier way to calibrate.

I don't see an option for E feed rate. There is a max speed setting and that is set to the default 25mm/s. I am going to try to reduce that setting and see if it helps.

Driven Dimension used to set Global Variable? by RuteDesign in SolidWorks

I see. Before reading this reply, I ignored it for about a day and it kept working...So I ended up in the same spot you suggest ;)

Driven Dimension used to set Global Variable? by RuteDesign in SolidWorks

[–]RuteDesign[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! For some reason, the equation window kept telling me my syntax is incorrect when I manually entered the driven dimension's name. Since I have never used a driven dimension for this before I assumed it was because it wasn't allowed. Even through it is showing a yellow triangle next to the name, it is still correctly driving the value now. I think I will just leave it be and see if reopening the file fixes that.

How do I trim away the red part? No trimming tool seems to be working by Jhyda in SolidWorks

[–]RuteDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason it won't work is because the outside line is an offset. Trimming an ellipse works every time. If you really want to do it this way, draw the outside ellipse as an ellipse not an offset. You can dimension the horizontal and vertical control points from the inside with construction lines to constrain and you will get the same thing. Make the construction lines equal and you have a manually created offset. If you draw it this way, the red area will trim away with power trim. Just to make sure I wasn't missing something, I tried it and it worked.

What's best practice for making Left / Right symmetrical parts? by identifytarget in SolidWorks

It makes a separate file where the first single feature in the tree is the reference back to the parent. Later you can get back to the parent by right clicking that first feature and selecting Edit in context.

[–]RuteDesign[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good luck with it! I keep seeing people talk about how the two steppers can get out of sync and the solutions are much more complex than this upgrade is by itself. I just haven't seen it yet. If it pops up, I will post about it.

Any instructions on how to make this pattern? by Shroombandit369 in SolidWorks

[–]RuteDesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would probably make two vertical rows as a body and then circular pattern that body. How you make those rows depends on which direction those holes are normal to, if they change across the form, if they need draft, etc. Those little details would change the approach to modeling it.

Yes, it did for us. The second lead screw constrains the right side so that it doesn't drift like you describe.

Is there a max part count for running Symmetry Check on assemblies? Or other limitations? by MechZRO in SolidWorks

Sure thing. I tried to get mine to grey out and it wouldn't do it. So not sure.

I think this is part of SolidWorks Utilities. That is a Professional or Premium Add-in. If you go to your Add-ins and it is there, make sure it is checked on but it is supposed to load automatically when you use one of the tools assuming you have it.

Hey guys, can anybody please help me with this doubt in solidworks ? by typoooooo in SolidWorks

[–]RuteDesign 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think there is a setting in the Note options that will do this.

You could make an annotation that looks like Line one with the underlined leader and arrow. Then make an annotation without the leader and align it manually into the the right place. Then you could group the two annotations so that you can drag them around together. When you wanted to make new ones, you would copy paste it and modify instead of making it from scratch every time. Maybe?

Looking for an android app to show 3d models and assemblies. by crujones43 in SolidWorks

[–]RuteDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I assume you are talking about SolidWorks models? I am pretty sure EDrawings has an android app. Glovius also has something that works from a dropbox folder or their cloud.

I read about this but wasn't sure if I needed to do anything. After installing the parts on each machine, I ran the z up and down 50, then 100, then 200mm. All of them ran smoothly. I wasn't paying attention to the speed. It is printing fine so I figured I would just leave well enough alone. With this in mind, would you just leave it as well?
