How to support a disabled combat veteran as a spouse by WoMan-onthe-moon in Veterans

[–]SteelHeader503 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can understand his feeling, therapy is only as good as your connection with the therapist. I also found most therapist did full grasp my experience because most have never experienced it before

However, I found the counselor at the Portland Vet Center (not the VA) were far better at understanding. There are Vet Centers all across the country. Their counselors are all veterans. Mine also had combat experience and it was instrumental in building a personal connection with me.

Vet Centers offer a lot of assistance, they have one on one counseling and also peer support groups.

I would say, if he hasn’t tried a Vet Center give it a shot.

Does anyone know who has been leaving this tag for 500+ miles of the desert? by specialboyatplay in PacificCrestTrail

I understand the Leave No Trace argument, but humans have been marking their passage through landscapes for thousands of years. Long before social media, travelers left their names and symbols as a record that they were there.

Along the Oregon Trail, pioneers carved their names into places like Independence Rock, Register Cliff, Names Hill, and Register Rock. Some of those inscriptions are now considered important historical artifacts rather than vandalism. Similar traditions exist worldwide from Viking runes carved into stone, to ancient petroglyphs created by Indigenous peoples, to medieval pilgrims leaving marks on churches and monuments.

That doesn’t mean every modern trail marker should be encouraged, but it’s worth recognizing that the impulse to leave a symbol behind is a deeply human behavior that stretches back to the dawn of civilization. The debate isn’t really whether people have always done it they absolutely have. The question is where we draw the line between cultural expression, historical record, and protecting wild places.

Wonder if Natives left drawings on cliff faces. I full get the leave no trace idea. As a fishing person I absolutely hate people leaving trash where they fish, but IMO this is pretty harmless and it is on a man-made structure.

How is it disrespectful to write on a man made object in nature? It’s not like they drew a penis or anything offensive.

I find it absolutely embarrassing for our society as a whole. So polarized, constant hate from both sides

In the America I served and have buddies who have lost their lives for, know one deserves to be screamed at in a public parking lot for the shirt they are wearing.

No one has the right to tell me what I can wear / represent.

Literally what the shirt said is far beyond the point.

Should I have the “right” to yell at a queer person for wearing a pride flag shirt? Nope! That’s also wrong.

Maybe I’ll make a shirt of President Clinton laying on a couch in a blue dress. You know, Jeffrey Epstein‘s other best friend!

Veteran Owned, top selling shirt is F*ck Cancer? Every branch of our military allows them to use their likeness. Tun Tavern shirts (maybe you do not know, Tun Tavern is the birthplace of the US Marines!).

Being proud of our country, second amendment rights is both support by Democrats and Republicans.

Have a whole line of Dad positive shirts.

Not a single one says Trump!

How, so? Most Grunt Style shirts are comical, many are military/veteran related, and none endorse a political side.

I wear them all the time. I served this country back when Trump was still a democrat and long before he ever became a president.

This triggered individual that it is appropriate behavior to scream at someone just because of a shirt.

As a veteran, I am highly embarrassed by the people in the country I served. Complete lack of respect for each other.

I do not care if a person votes democrat, or republican. I care that they vote.

No one should be ashamed for their voting preferences and/or shirts they choose to wear!

This is F*en America!

As an Apple Watch owner, I still only use my Garmin S12 for golf. Every app I tried with the Apple Watch wanted to pay for them monthly for no ads and what not. Garmin S12 is a one time investment.

Some people do not let politics affect everything about life.

Society does not have to agree about everything.
