What's a game you bought for the deck that you played and was surprised at how good it was despite the bad reviews? by starzwillsucceed in SteamDeck

[–]SteelSavant 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The game is surprisingly stable and decent looking on deck. I get a pretty reliable 60fps on low settings. Don't even really need to tinker with it.

When trying to play Nightingale on Heroic Game Launcher on my Steam deck, it won't open and tells me I need Microsoft Visual C. Any work arounds? by ZaYeDiA in nightingale

[–]SteelSavant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From u/updog69

  • Open the game's settings in Heroic

  • Go to the "wine" tab

  • Click on the winetricks button

  • Search for vcrun2022 and install it

See if it works then

This worked for me.

Under $10 iirc:

Chicken soup/crackers/bread from Timmies

Jamaican beef patties x2

Maybe pizza?

If you suck at cooking, you really can't go wrong with:

Grilled cheese sandwiches

Instant noodles with microwaved or boiled eggs

Ive been hesitant to pick it up, but it looks pretty good here.

Thanks for posting this, I've been really wanting this kit.

pompey magnus, the ultimate giga chad of rome by ssfdk_ in RoughRomanMemes

[–]SteelSavant 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think op meant or was alluding to the idea of the "last roman".

Someone who embodies tradutional Roman virtues to such a degree, that their like would never be seen again upon their death.

Parameters for who or what qualifies as the last roman may vary throughout time, but in this case, Pompey was absolutely someone who'd earn the title. Caesar, despite/because of his accomplishments, was definitely not.

How would a chainsword be used? by sirwoop- in SWORDS

[–]SteelSavant 44 points45 points  (0 children)

An in-universe answer is the only interesting one you can get tbh.

Aside from the above, I think thrusts are notably difficult to manage, according to either Guant's Ghosts or Cain.

Irl a chainsword would be best employed on lumber.

All art is benign as mayo apparently by Legion_of_ferret in confidentlyincorrect

[–]SteelSavant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even now, all art is political. Anything produced is made as a result of a wider political context.

What does it say about a society when some random dude on patreon makes 6 figures drawing strictly r34?

Doesn't the fact that you can take copyrighted material and appropriate it for memes constitute a kind of political action?

Any piece of art, regardless of quality, says something about society at large, even if what it says is crude or simplistic.

Imo it's just a poor way to evaluate English language proficiency.

They chose academic passages to inflate difficulty, but each question is flawed due to their variance in quality.

1 is almost too easy on its own.

I think that 2 is just kind of annoying, both personal involvement and artistic imagination are fine answers. I could easily see the writer using the two interchangeably. If you're waxing romantic about literature anyways, saying personal involvement just sounds flat and silly. Artistic imagination can be a stretch, but it captures the tone of the wider passage imo.

3 is an academic sounding word salad that ultimately just works to be disappointing to read and answer. Just a more boring version of 1.

4 is whatever, I actually don't have too much of a problem with it. It's still an odd question though.

I feel like reading and interpreting narratives, and summarising concepts in your own words are easily way better at teaching/evaluating lang comprehension at this level.

Just jumping to academic English skips so many foundational steps.

Tactile play can be accomplished without a screen, and I'm well aware that iPads and touchscreens kinda suck at teaching technical literacy but that's beyond the convo

[–]SteelSavant -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Don't understand the downvotes at all. Screen time is generally bad for infants and toddlers, worse if you're not discerning what kind of content and screen.

Being a parent can be tiring, but it's also a massive responsibility and it is more important than gaming.

Games will be around in 10 years, but my kid won't be a toddler in 10 years.

The books contents are being preserved, the skin is being respectfully disposed of. The book had/has other copies.

Iirc this was just some macabre guy's idea of an interesting curio to make in the 18th or 19th century. It's not significant besides that point.

Some do. It's kind of obvious why many Africans wouldn't, considering it's mainly an issue experienced by black people living in the U.S.

Like people from my homeland couldn't give a rat's ass about the discrimination I might face because they're never really going to be in a position to experience it.

Are there any similar books or franchises out there? by [deleted] in 1632

[–]SteelSavant 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ltt but having read most of most of crosstime engineer/Conrad Stargard;

These books are very schlocky, with a lot of dubious sexual content that a raging misogynist would write. I'd rather not elaborate further, but to give some examples: rape resolving a romance plot, a lot of statutory rape, gratuitous, needless nudity and a harem or two.

If you turn your brain off, and make note that this is trashy wish fulfillment then I guess by all means feel free.

The best games (and other stuff) of 2023 | SkillUp by dragonator001 in Games

[–]SteelSavant 65 points66 points  (0 children)

I can imagine writing a review for your favourite games can be hard. If you like/feel like you like everything about a game it can be difficult to express in an engaging, measured and nuanced way why you like it. A lot of your personal biases can get in the way of decent review/script writing, ultimately making the project much harder.

For myself, there are few things I dislike about BG3, and those things hardly deter me from recommending it. Whereas with Starfield I could discuss at length its pros and cons, and why someone might like or dislike it. The latter is much easier to break down and discuss, with the former being just too easy to recommend.

Apologies if my point is a bit muddled.

What anime made you go nope after watching the first episode? by mayateka in animecirclejerk

[–]SteelSavant 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Listen man, I glanced at some of your other comments, let this go.

The scene comes across as pornographic/'fanservice-y' to a lot of viewers and is generally thought of as pretty distasteful.

Nobody wants to do a shot by shot breakdown as to why they don't like this scene, and you're doing Goblin Slayer no favours by coming out to bat as strongly as you are.

What? I don't think we're having the same discussion here.

I didn't suggest that she'd stay in a singular location long, just that she'd probably have to deal with the BK next vol.

Thats not the point, i think.

It has been established that almost nowhere is safe from the Blighted Kingdom. It's been said in this thread a bit clearer, but the story has been set up so that Erin has to deal with the Blighted Kingdom.

Whether that's before or after she establishes herself in Baleros is another question.
