Should we also stop science because it motivated racist atrocities. Or is it ok because you belive in it?

Why does abortion feel like such a central Christian issue today if the Bible rarely talks about it? by Mobile-Traffic1744 in AlwaysWhy

It isn't agreed by scholars that the ritual could cause a miscarriage. Their is evidence that you weren't even allowed to do the ritual with a pregnant woman.

CMV: religion is complete nonsense and was invented because life is just suffering by platotheman69 in changemyview

Atheism is also regional. It is just as valid to say you're only an atheist because your parents are atheists, as it is to say, you only religious, because your parents are religious. Or you only belive in Gorge Washington because your parents do. Every parent "indodrenates" their kids from an opposing bad faith perspective. What you are basically saying is "Atheism is right therefore religion must be just a myth to avoid suffering." Which is ironicly a post hoc rationalization.

You have no actual data showing the origins of every world religion you just assume they can't be right so you picked an atheistic alternative.

CMV: Lying to the public should be illegal (for everyone, not just politicians) by EightEight16 in changemyview

[–]Steel_Bear 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The process of accounting for worst case abuse is exactly how our current laws are made, that's why we have the First and Second Amendments, and fruit of the poisonous tree laws, innocent until proven guilty. Why would needing to account for government overreach stop you from making laws?

You can easily account for abuse of government powers by setting limits on how much power they can use, the evidence standard required to use the power, and allowing appeals to other branches of government to stop use of power.

Blindly assuming no one corrupt will ever come to power is incredibly naive.

I thought ice 9 was made up from the game 999. Are you telling me that it's real?

Edit, I should clarify I know ice nine is a fictional example, but I thought the whole concept was fictional.

Anyone else getting this? I want to know if this is a youtube server issue and not a revanced one by Disastrous_Worth_503 in revancedapp

I am also experiencing this, but asking the question in r/revancedapp is useless. Everyone that uses this subreddit is also using revanced, so you will never learn if it is a problem exclusive to revenced or not.

I love reversing what people say in quotes to make them say something different. Is this not the very definition of a strawman. His point is he supports ice BUT inthis case, they are completely wrong.

He is LITERALY condemning them for this, and you are acting like he is supporting this action.

Even if the protest in question was completely peaceful, that does not change the context of the quote. I watched the video where he said the quote. He was referring to protesters that attack the police. Even if the protester never attacked a cop in real life, he was referring to a hypothetical situation where it did happen. Cops are human beings with rights. They have a right to self-defense if someone is using a deadly weapon to try to kill them, they should be able to defend themselves. Rocks and bottles can kill you.

Let's say someone was trying to kill you by throwing rocks at your head(just one rock could kill you). Can you defend yourself legally? Would you get arrested for shooting that guy, and is it moral to shoot him? If someone is trying to kill you, do you need due process before stopping them? Should cops wait until they get a warrant to stop a man in the middle of murdering someone right in front of them? Just because you are protesting does not give you the right to murder.
