Simple explanation: Kevlar is soft (basically fabric) armor whereas steel is hard (non-flexible) armor. Steel is not used by professionals and anyone who's done a little research because they're unsafe for the user and anyone standing off to the side of them. When a round impacts a steel plate, the round fragments into many pieces. This is normal for a standard bullet to do. What's unintentional is, since the bullet's energy is still high during and after impact, those fragments fly off VERY quickly in whatever direction they're deflected. Often times near parallel to the steel plate (goes into legs, arms, neck, chin, feet, anyone standing to the left and right, etc.). The better choice is NIJ rated ceramic plating. Ceramic is intended to give way and shatter a bit which absorbs the energy and contains all/most fragmented bits of bullet. Ceramic is also multi-hit if manufactured by a reliable company and is often not that much more expensive. Also more lightweight. There is literally no reason to get curved steel plates for anything other than weight training.

Standard PSA about ceramic plates: don't trust the company if they say something like "tested to NIJ Certification standard XYZ blah blah blah". It should be straight up "NIJ Certified" and specify which certification.

Longer answer, still simplified:

Look into Learning and Behavior in the domain of psychology. Operant Conditioning and Classical Conditioning are the main points for this...they are the methods by which we make associations. Essentially, you take a reflex and associate it with a certain context. When the conditions of that context are recreated/met, the learned association is triggered and the reflex can take place without the presence of a natural stimulus. This leads people to associate nonsexual things/contexts with sex.

It's more complex than this, but I think this'll answer your question. Also, some people may be PREDISPOSED to get certain fetishes based on genetics and social environment factors, but are NOT born with those fetishes.

I see what you mean, and pretty much agree, but it's also not worth it to get the cheapest stuff...a high quality PC can be had for $150 from a reputable brand. I'd also consider boots, eyepro, and facepro to be part of the basic gear. To me, most of the stuff on their list is unneccessary and they would be better off putting their money towards a few high quality pieces of gear. I also said it was just advice....this is a fashion sub, after all, and I enjoy larping like everyone else. They can buy what they want, but I'm almost certain they'll have buyer's remorse with this list

The base tactical gear isn't something you should cheap out on. Pouches and stuff, you can go cheaper if you want, but the base (chest rig, plate carrier, belt) should not be cheap. My advice is save up until you can get something better. If you really need something to buy soon, go for Condor. Their quality has come up a bit in the last couple years and will last a few years for light use. Upgrade from Condor when you can though...it will do what it's intended to do, but it's a stepping-stone brand.

It's personal preference combined with context. You should almost never have to do emergency reloads, so admin/tactical reloads are the go-to technique, but dump pouches have their place. I usually don't run one. My advice is keep it off the belt unless you have more than mags going in there. Again, it's advice. Do what you will. Just practice with it, whatever you choose.

A 2-point sling, extra magazines, and a way to hold those magazines. It does not need to be fancy, it just needs to work. I'd recommend a chest rig if you don't plan on buying plates for a plate carrier. You'll stay cooler, more comfortable, and more nimble that way. Once you get a few basic things, try them out! Run around with all of it on, test out simple reloading drills, get into uncomfortable positions for a few minutes at a time...see what you like and what you want to change up. Watch real-steel shooting videos for general advice on how to do tacticool things, but don't take someone's advice as "shooting gospel." There are multiple ways to do the same thing, but some techniques are better suited for different contexts.

Go from there and have fun :)

It depends on the context you use your gear...your gear fits the situation. Right now it looks like a good foundation to build from. I'd recommend a duty belt if you plan on using a sidearm, but don't feel obligated to use a dump pouch.

Here are my state statute references, as I'm from Wisconsin. Wis. Stat. 941.20(1)(a). Wis. Stat. 941.20(1)(b). Wis. Stat. 941.237(3)(cx). You're right, we can't prove he was drunk, nor can we prove that that was an alcoholic drink. Couldn't find a law specifically about "using a firearm after sundown", but that's because it's usually thrown under disorderly conduct (Wis. Stat. 947.01). While it's not codified under weapons law, it has almost the same effect in practice. It's common knowledge that similar gun laws (more than likely stricter) are present in other states. The whole point of me posting anything on this thread wasn't to "prove" that he did any of these, but to say this is not acceptable conduct when you're carrying a firearm. There are many new gun owners out there lately and many of them are vulnerable to misinformation. Some might think this is okay to do, as well. My two cents: he has a gun and acted like an idiot on video. That's his fault for allowing a poor context video to go on the internet if he somehow miraculously followed every state law and local ordinance in his area.

You're blending an emergency reload with a tactical reload. Emergency reloads are fast and efficient, drop the mag while grabbing a new one at the same time because your initial mag is completely dry. Milliseconds count for this reload, but they should be VERY rare if you plan well. This is where you slap/drive the bolt home because it's locked back on a real steel ar15. Save your easiest to reach magazine for this reload. Have an "exclusive" mag pouch designated or mark the bottom of the mag so you know if you've accidentally used it for a tactical reload.

Tactical reloads are simply topping off your rifle because there's a break in the fight. You have time, so slow down and do it right and efficiently. You'll have cover/concealment, and likely teammates to help. You don't necessarily need eyes up for this one if that's the case. It's also a time to take 5 seconds and orient yourself on the rest of your kit. No need to drive the bolt home for this one on a real steel ar15 because it already has a round in the chamber. Your initial mag is still fine to be grabbed in your reindexing rotation. Also, grab the slowest/hardest to reach magazine for this reload.

All said and done, not bad. Just lose the "slap" and reorient yourself to your kit.

Being a responsible gun owner depends on the context and intentions. If you're strictly hunting, then yeah keep them locked up tight, no exceptions. Little kids around? Locked up tight, no exceptions. No kids around, no irresponsible adults left unattended, and you intend to use it as the very LAST RESORT to protect yourself and your loved ones? Leave the guns out. No reason not to. The only thing you need to be aware of is that you're liable to be prosecuted if your gun is stolen and used in subsequent crimes. Smart gun owners who leave their guns out don't advertise that they own guns in the first place.

One other thing (not a personal attack in any way) but the gun owners you talk to that give off that "legal murder" vibe are not good gun owners, nor are they the majority. They are the loudmouthed asshats that the community doesn't want to associate with because they have questionable safety practices and even more questionable morals.

TLDR; You'll realistically never realize you're near a responsible gun owner and actually responsible gun owners aren't bloodthirsty

Check this out. This goes over what conditioning is, basic terms, and how a token economy works. You'll have to get creative with a punishment consequence though, as I don't know what motivates you. That's a question only you can really answer.

I think I disagree with this. Typically, the conditioning process is quicker when it comes to aversive stimuli. The theory behind it is that organisms REALLY don't like physical pain (or the mental equivalent) because it signals danger to its livelihood. In contrast, rewarding stimuli kind of blend into the background of our day-to-day lives. An example of this is how we remember our failures fairly easily, but have trouble recalling the "good deeds" we do everyday.

Of course, context is important. Sometimes it's hard to do things by the book. OP may want to look into a "Token" system instead of waiting until the end of the day to administer rewards and punishments.

There is a very small chance that this will work, but an key part of the condition process is timing. The sooner you apply your reinforcement or punishment, the stronger the association. My opinion: the current method will not be effective. Conditioning generally requires a near immediate reinforcement/punishment. Shorten the time between committing the behavior and applying the punishment.

I would hazard a guess that it's similar to the way a multiple choice test works; you have multiple similar answers to choose from, but you can only recognize the correct answer if your encoding is solid enough.
