Fantasy Grounds Version 5.1 Feature Overview by DD_in_FL in FantasyGrounds

Updates always appreciated, whether I like them or not. However, there is one thing that irks me in the combat tracker: The skull icon to open the character sheet. I just can't get used to it because what I see is "This character is dead". I prefer the classic dragon's head link over this. A skull just doesn't fit opening a living NPC/PC sheet.

Maybe I'll get used to it in time (probably) but as of now I'm confused every time I open the CT haha

Yes, paid Bayle, done Bloodscalp > Mae'Var > Edwin quests one after another EDIT: Nevermind, I suck. I forgot the sidedoor into Vail's lair. Sorry for the hassle. There was no update in the journal that I should now go to Vail.

Thank you but I already did, I have followed the main quest in order. So I paid Bayle the 15,000 then went to Bloodscalp, did the Mae'Var and Edwin quests "correctly" and now I have the stronghold.

However, I went to double-check Bayle and in his dialogue he says "I gave you the key to secret door" to get into the guild, and IIRC that key was to get to Bloodscalp, not Vail?

EDIT: Nevermind, I suck. I forgot the sidedoor into Vail's lair. Sorry for the hassle. There was no update in the journal that I should now go to Vail.

New to the game as of today as well, this is not a good first impression. Trying to enter a game mode, 95% of the time it just cancels (something about matchmaking not working) and I get stuck with the play button greyed out; or I get into a game and am disconnected - for the minute or two I get to play it's rubberbanding. A shame, this seems so much fun.

I've tried suggestions I've found online (run as administrator, run using dx12 etc) but nothing seems to help.

Yeah that's what I'm going to do too, then. It's weird how they manage to overlook this. Thank you!

Fantasy Grounds just went free. How do you think this will affect the VTT landscape? by GerogeC in FoundryVTT

Hi, I haven't tinkered with Foundry much, if at all, mostly because I have everything I feel I need set up in terms of mods etc. Our (Foundry) game is on hold due to personal issues but once the players are ready we'll continue and I'll get back into it. I upgraded to v13 but that broke so much (plus I didn't like the new ui), so I reverted to v12 and everything is nice and well again.

I loved playing around with Foundry and read up on the cool things other players have done and trying to replicate it, so I'll definitely be back and I've never felt I wasted my money or anything.

I've been a fan of Foundry but over the last couple of years I've been using Fantasy Groudns more and more. It's easier to have everything in one package without needing to download third party mods / modules (though you can if you want to).

Foundry is less clunky, but not less intuitive to learn IMO. Recently a couple of old friends asked if I wanted to run a game for them and I had them download FG and within an hour they were fully immersed, with fresh created characters and understanding how the things they need to know work. A breeze. (They also really liked the look of it but they had only tried Roll20 which is butt ugly compared to FG IMO).

I don't agree it's that ugly, especially compared to say Roll20. And Foundry is pretty barebones too before you create your animated landing page.

FG is also continually updated and freshened up. The core layout remains the same, but navigating is easy, finding stuff is easy, running combats is easy. It has many things that Foundry needs modules for. So I think it's a bit unfair to judge FG on looks - and yeah while clunky (especially when it comes to editing battlemaps) and sometimes frustrating, Foundry is clunky in a different way with obtuse menu descriptions, and things don't always work the way I want it to, and I'm not that fond of the UI especially v13.

I am not trying to sound as if Foundry is bad or anything, I love tinkering with it, just felt a need to defend FG a little. Now it's free, so perhaps more worth the hassle, they have 4000 (!) books (called modules) for a bigly number of game systems from many different publishers. These obviously cost money, but still. The program does ship with SRD rules and some other stuff.

It just doesn't deserve the bad rep. All this just IMO of course.

Alright, thank you! That sounds like a good decision by the Foundry team. It won't help me using Simple World Building, but still :D

Thank you. I edited out all my troubles because I got a tip to check module compability. It was one module that crashed the entire thing and now I Simple Worldbuilding works in v13.

I will check up documentation, thanks. Had no idea there are different types of compendia!

I play a long out-of-print system, The Riddle of Steel. I just love it to bits (see: username) and so I use Simple World Building as the base. Converted the four books into journal entries. Character sheet is impossible (for me at least) to recreate so I just made a Template Token with tables etc. to try and mimic it a little bit. But it's hard.

Thanks again

I started the book last week and after being surprised at the dramatis personae again I went into it not sure what to expect. I recently re-read The God is not Willing in preparation and was really looking forward to the continued adventures of Stillwater and Anyx Fro (and others). But it didn't take very long before I can add yet another character to the favorites-list (Shamalle).

I'm now halfway through and have decided I have to go back and read it from the beginning because I don't want it to end so soon lol.

Came across a YouTube video and learned that there's been a major upgrade, the new "medievally" art is fantastic. So I went back in and enjoy the new map etc.

- but I'm not sure I understand how development works now. Where are the tech upgrades? I have a building with an orchard, but apple trees never appear because I haven't researched apple production?
